Summary: Beautiful!
Review: Seabiscuit's story is fascinating, heartwarming, and triumphant, and Laura Hillenbrand brings all the central characters in it-- with their personality quirks, humor, and drive to succeed--vividly to life. This book reads like a novel, but its facts and research are backed up by pages and pages of notes at the end of the book. I have only been to the races once, many years ago in Louisiana, but I absolutely loved this book and devoured it in three days during my Christmas vacation. My husband is now reading it, and I am confident he will enjoy it as much as I did. Thank you, Laura, for telling this wonderful story so well. You are a marvelous, gifted, inspired writer! Brava!

Summary: Seabiscuit
Review: This audiotape was fantastic. I received it as a suprise gift for Christmas. From the very beginning, I couldn't stop listening. The story itself was exciting and entertaining. The background on the racing industry during the depression was incredible. I thought it was a great book, and would recommend it to anyone, horse background or not!

Summary: My favorite book of 2001!
Review: I don't know what else to add to the other great reviews other than it was my favorite book of last year. It was a page turner from start to finish. I love it when I come across a book where I don't want it to end! Beautifully written with rich, fascinating details of Seabiscuit and the eccentric men who made him a champion. Laura Hillenbrand obviously loved her subject and did a great job in bringing everyone's story to life for many generations who have probably never heard of this horse.

Summary: Wonderful
Review: Let start off by saying I am not a big horse racing fan but I am a bit of a history buff, and I absolutely loved this book. The book held my attention throughout and I have a short attention span. I have been trying to get all my friends to read it...even some strangers. It was a great story and Laura told it great, thanks, john powell

Summary: HOOKED!
Review: I immediately became hooked on this book. Every time Seabiscuit exploded down the homestretch, I became giddy with joy. He lived such a long time ago but the legend still lives on of the little horse who was so small, but had such great determination and heart that he never allowed himself to give up, that is truly what made him a champion. Thanks to the author for sharing your amazing talent and letting me read an incredible book about an incredible spirit.

Summary: Wonderful story, well told
Review: I received "Seabiscuit: An American Legend" for Christmas and devoured it in just a few days. The story is so well told, it is impossible to put the book down. Laura Hillenbrand really, really did her homework in bringing all of the central characters vividly to life. (The amount of research this took--richly detailed at the end of the book--is staggering). I found myself reading portions of the book aloud to my husband, and we shared a hearty laugh over Red Pollard's hilarious NBC radio broadcast. While I read extensively, I am not generally attracted to sports-related subject matter, yet I found "Seabiscuit" enthralling. Read it to be transported back to the 30s, to encounter genuine heroism, to root for a plucky underdog, to be greatly entertained. I can't recommend the book highly enough. Excellent!

Summary: Moving
Review: Everyone in this book is special from the owner to the trainer to the horse himself. It's a true story of redemption and the American dream. Highly recommended.

Summary: Excellent for horse racing fans and non-racing fans alike!
Review: This book is incredibly well written and exciting through to the very end. My husband has no interest in horses or horse racing but listened to the book on tape on a recent trip. He was inspired to give me the book because he liked it so much. It is one of the best books that I have ever read. I found myself transended into the depression era where horse racing was at it's peak and I sat in the stands next to the thousands of fans as each race was brilliantly played out. My knuckles were white with excitement the whole time. At times I found myself laughing out loud, cheering, and I even had an occasional tear run down my cheek. This book even interested our teen-aged daughter so you know it has to be good!!

Summary: A wonderful book
Review: When I read anything, I like to play this little game. Read the first ten paragraphs of a magazine article, or the first ten pages of a book, then see if you can guess the gender of the author. Ninety-eight times out of a hundred, I get it right. When reading Seabiscuit, I was dead wrong. That, to me, is the sign of a great writer -- they become so lost in their subject, and are so intimate with it, that you can't win this game.

This is a terrific book. It's so well-written it makes me want to sit up like a dog and bark. Just buy it. Now.
