Summary: Great tale, Hillenbrand's okay
Review: Hillenbrand's writing style didn't grab me so much, but it's a great story anyway. I knew virtually nothing about horse racing beforehand, and suddenly as I read this I found myself very caught up in all the War Emblem fever when he won the first two legs of the Triple Crown. An entertaining, somewhat even educating read.

Summary: Not just a horse book
Review: Even if you are not a horse lover, you will love the way Laura puts together a very inspiring and page-turner story. I couldn't wait to get back to the book after breaks for other what seemed mundane things, like work and meals. Terrific book and highly recomend for a good easy read that has some history and reality to it.

Summary: Fantastic Read!!!
Review: I know nothing about horseracing and I loved this book! This non-fiction book is written like a novel. I listened to the abridged version and read the book. Both are wonderful. I recommended reading or purchasing the paperback version to get some additional information that comes with the paperback version including horse race stats for Seabiscuit and info. on the author and her research for the book. Makes a great read for book clubs. I am giving it as holiday gifts too! A must read! Enjoy!

Review: Excellent, excellent book. I was cheering out loud during the race scenes (while sitting in a Dr.'s office waiting room). I couldn't put it down -- the details were excellent and I felt like I was part of the characters lives. Very well written. Best book I have read in quite some time!!

Review: This is one of the best nonfiction books I've ever read. Hillenbrand's biography of Seabiscuit is packed with fascinating information about racing in the 1930s. The accounts of the individual races are as suspenseful and exciting as reading a novel. Topnotch entertainment about courage, determination, heartbreak, and stellar achievement.

Summary: An Awesome Book
Review: I didnt know much about Seabiscuit when I was recommended this book by many people in the racing and breeding industry on a recent trip to Kentucky. I went home and bought the book and fell in love with it.
Laura Hillenbrand wrote not only a highly informative book about Seabiscuit but a fun to read one. I couldn't put the book down once I started it. I learned not only information on Seabiscuit but the racing industry and a background on what was happening in the world as everything with Seabiscuit was happening. Everything in this book was well described.
My mom's bookclub even read the book and loved it. This book puts all other Seabiscuit books to shame.
It is a MUST READ!!

Summary: What a wonderful read!
Review: I do admit, I was skeptical when it comes to "equine biographies". How interesting could even a really great horses life be? I guess it all depends on who tells the story. This book is so well-written. Hilenbrand tends to anthromorphisize a bit, but not shamelessly so. The book is very detailed and researched to depths that few authors could. It hooks you. Even the play-by-play of the horse races is full of tense and exciting moments and you find yourself rooting for certain horses and jockeys. This is a great story that desrved to be told. Hilenbrand does it justice.

Summary: Inspiring Story
Review: This book tells of how a horse can become a winner, with the right help from the right people. This compares with amazing stories of people who have risen from obscurity to become famous, with the help of someone along the way.
Reading about Seabiscuit also showed me that horses have distinct personalities and idiosyncrasies. I'll have a much better appreciation of the horses I meet in the future, now that I know there's a real thinking brain in that magnificant head, assessing me.
Laura Hillenbrand did a masterful job of researching, and then conveying the personalities of the people along the way who were influential in Seabiscuit's life. Knowing all the details made the book so much more interesting to read.
"Seabiscuit" was our library's Discussion Group's reading selection for the month of November, 2002, but I couldn't wait until after our program to let Ms. Hillenbrand know how much I enjoyed her book. I ordered two books; one for my library and another to give as a gift to a friend who also loves horses.

Summary: An uplifting tale about an American Hero
Review: This is not only a story about a race horse, it is a lesson in history. The details in this book are so interesting and accurate that everyone will learn something they didn't already know. I must admit that I am a horse lover, but never into horse racing. I have enjoyed this book so much and believe it or not it is very difficult to put down. You will really get pulled into the story, feeling for all of these people (and animals) that really existed and lived this fantastic story. Please buy this book and share it with a friend. It's awesome.
