Rating: Summary: put me down for 5 stars............ Review: With over 300 reviews already you don't need to read mine, yet I enjoyed the book so much I had to write one anyway. I don't read books much, if I could find books that could enthral me the way this one did I would read all the time. I felt like I actually visted horse racing in the 30's for a few days. I really enjoyed meeting jockey, trainer, owner and horse. The life of a true champion can be so inspiring. It's easy to see how 4 years with this horse could become the pinacle in the lives of those around him. Especially good if you know nothing of horse racing....
Rating: Summary: Seabiscuit Still Winning 70 Years Later Review: This book is a MUST READ. It is extremely well written and keeps you captivated from the beginning till the end. The lives of Seabiscuit, Charles Howard, Tom Smith, Red Pollard, George Wolfe, etc. jump off the page. Laura Hillenbrand make you feels as if you were actually there to witness each race and event.WIN, PLACE or SHOW......It's a WIN!!!!
Rating: Summary: If review is <5 stars, pay no attention to it. Review: If you like to read good books, I bet you will like this one. It is extremely well written and every detail plays a role in this compelling story. The characters, both human and equine, the places and times, and the races themselves, are brought vividly to life. I am no race fan and doubt I ever will be, but if I ever again see a horse race, it will be with a new sense of appreciation and history. My original copy has been passed around a lot and is now lost in the shuffle. I will just have to replace it because this book I will definitely read again.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Review: This is the best book I have read in a long, long while. Let me start by saying that before I read this book I didn't know anything about horses or racing, and I really didn't care either. However, this book made me care. The storytelling is wonderful with rich characters (all real) all around. This is a page turner that inspires you and fills you with emotion at every corner as you root for Seabiscuit and those around him.

Rating: Summary: An American legend of a book Review: This is definitely a great book. With this effort, Hillenbrand proves that she is a master at bringing history to life, breathing life into an era gone by. I have to admit, I'd never heard of Seabiscuit the horse until I read this book, but you certainly don't have to have lived in the 1930s to appreciate this book. Hillenbrand spares no details, and apparently conducted excruciating research before writing this. The characters- including the horses- are richly developed and vividly brought to life. The reader comes away with a moving feeling of what it might have felt like to be involved in horse racing in the 1930s. Highly recommended. Avery Z. Conner, author of "Fevers of the Mind".
Rating: Summary: Best read in a long while Review: After my father read this book, it inspired him to cut out all articles related to the book/Seabisquit and even go as far as to attend a party in Saratoga kicking off the filming of Seabisquit the movie. After witnessing this extreme behavior, I read the book and came to understand how this book inspires. Never has a book captured the real life personalities of an era while matching them with historical fact. Best researched book ever and a must read for everyone.
Rating: Summary: Here Comes Seabiscuit Review: PICTURE THIS..A BOOK GROUP OF 7 MIDDLE AGED WOMEN WHO ARE ALL HIGHLY EDUCATED, WORLDLY, TRAVELED, MORE THAN PRIVILEGED...ALL OF THEM RAVING ABOUT A HORSE AND THE PEOPLE WHO WERE TOUCHED BY THIS HORSE SO MANY YEARS AGO. WE ALL ADMITTED TO TEARS AND POUNDING HEARTS, BOTH FOR THE HORSE AND FOR HIS RIDERS AND TRAINER. THE AUTHOR DID A REMARKABLE JOB OF BRINGING AN ERA TO LIFE THAT SHOULD NEVER BE FORGOTTEN IN AMERICAN LORE. WHEN I GAVE THE BOOK TO MY 86 YEAR OLD DAD HE SAID, "THE BEST PART OF MY CHILDHOOD WAS FOLLOWING BABE RUTH & SEABISCUIT."
Rating: Summary: Seabiscuit: Athlete Review: When ESPN rated the best athletes of the century, I questioned putting race-horses on the list. After all, these were animals that jockeys pushed to perform. After reading about the will to win that Seabiscuit had, I have new respect for not only their athletic ability, but their heart. Great non-fiction account of one of the most popular race-horses ever. It also gave an interesting and enlightening view of a jockey's life in the early twentieth century.
