Rating: Summary: AN AFFECTING LEGACY Review: Just a short time ago newspapers around the world announced that pieces of Antoine de Saint Exupery's missing plane were found in the Mediterranean Sea. It has been some 60 years since he vanished while carrying out a wartime mission. Many in France consider this author/aviator to be a national hero. All who read his classic story, The Little Prince, have been intrigued by him. Now, thanks to his great-niece, Nathalie Des Vallieres, many of his writings, drawings, letters, and diaries have been collected in a lush keepsake volume which reveals a Saint Exupery the public has never seen - pilot, friend, lover, and philosopher. Readers will find examples of his scientific ideas and visual puzzles, resulting in the registration of ten patents between 1934 and 1940. Particularly poignant are Saint Exupery's thoughts on relationships, a subject about which he felt deeply, once saying, "There is only one true luxury, and that is the luxury of human relations." The volume is replete with 200 photographs and over 80 color facsimiles, readers will even find pictured the odd bits of paper on which he wrote and drew - paper napkins, hotel letterheads. Saint Exupery: Art, Writings and Musings is apt tribute to a man who left this world far too he gave us his drawings and writings, a legacy for generations to come.
