Review: Donald Davis--whose humor is in the best tradition of American humorists--is at his funniest in this story. The experience of getting braces is wrapped within a larger story of first freedoms...being trusted by his parents to travel to the orthodontist on his own, finding out about a city larger than his hometown, etc. For family-audience humor, this is a sure winner. A great gift for a teen (ages 11 and up, really) who is just experiencing braces for the first time.
