Rating: Summary: *sigh* Review: I started reading the Andrews novels over 10 years ago and was totally hooked. Rain was the first Andrews novel I'd read since the Landry series. I started reading the novels again because I wanted something fun to read while studying for the Bar Exam. The other books in this series were bad, but End of the Rainbow is one of the worst novels I've ever read. I kept reading the other novels because I kept expecting Rain to lose her inheritence or something unpredictable to happen. I really don't think the ghostwriter planned this novel very well. It was as if he had one storyline going and decided near the end to have Summer and Harley trapped in the basement. Ridiculous. If End of the Rainbow is any indication, the better days of the V.C. Andrews novels are over.
Rating: Summary: Sedative - in book form! Review: If you have trouble sleeping at night, you just might want to purchase this book. Trite, slow-moving, cliched, this book is just like the other V.C. Andrews book, only it is by far one of the most poorly-written published works of "art" I'd ever come across. Obviously, if V.C. Andrews's ghostwriter hadn't penned it and it had been some other schmuck, it never would have gotten published, much less touched an editor's desk. In a nutshell, this book is just like all the other V.C. Andrews books. There's plenty of rape, a bad boy with a fiery temper who feels the need to protect his lover/relative, an incarceration ala FITA or Gabrielle Landry, and a bunch of cliched metaphors and similes that will make any reader cringe. And was it just me or was Summer not worthy of a narrator where this book was concerned. Seemed to me this book should have been told by Harley. It was more about him than her anyway. Once again, if you can't sleep at night, pick up this book as a knockout pill. Otherwise, be smart and avoid it. Cheers!
Rating: Summary: Similar yet different from the usual V.C. Andrews... Review: OK, I've been reading V.C. Andrews books since I was 13. So of course, when I started reading the Hudson series, I was expecting the same story line-girl comes from a poor family, finds rich relatives or is adopted by rich ones, is still loved by a brother or some other relation, gets raped by some jerk, ends up marrying the guy she always thought was a relative, has a beautiful daughter, the family is rich, the daughter is a princess to everyone, daughter is real naiive, falls in love with someone who is like a family member but not really, there is a trashy aunt who tries to corrupt the daughter, she finds out the family secrets, the girl from the first book and her husband die in an accident and the poor defenseless daughter is left all alone. Yet, by the end of the book, everything is good, and it is a happy ending. And the book always ends with some cheesy sentence. And while Rain did start off with basically the same story line, The End of the Rainbow was really different from the typical "daughter's book". First of all, this book really breaks away from the typical white-bread thing, most of the couples in this series are mixed-race couples. Also, when Summer gets raped, instead of being the typical V.C. Andrews heroine and keeping quiet about it, she actually tells on the guy and gets him in trouble. And even though I was expecting it, thankfully Rain and Austin do not die! But there is still a scene where Summer is trapped somewhere, like the daughters in the other books. And in this book there is trashy Aunt Alison, whereas in the other serieses there was Aunt Clara Sue and Aunt Fanny and Aunt Fawn. But I definitely think that this was the best series that the ghostwriter has written so far.
Rating: Summary: Sappy and predictable Review: This is probably my least favorite book after the Melody series. Rain was my first V.C. Andrews book and after that I read the other books in that series. How is it that Rain, who was a fairly strong character, could give raise a daughter so immature, childish, weak, and naive? It's impossible to relate to Summer when she is so despicable. Even though she is 16 she acts like she is 6. What 16 year old calls her mother "Mommy"? I was disgusted by her constant whining and her complete helplessness. If you want a V.C. Andrews book with more substance, I suggest reading Heaven.
Rating: Summary: Recommnded for little kids Review: This really stupid if you like the original VCA books. I, for one, think the ghostwriter needs new material and better characters. Those who say Summer is a "strong" character need to read the Heaven series and FITA. Then see if she's stong. Oh, she was so deprived from good upbringing!! Her Mommy and Daddy tortured their little Princess when they gave her gifts and hugs and kisses. Such a horror story. I expected to find this in the children's section of the bookstore after reading it. Poor VCA, she must be so embarrased to have such kiddie stories written under her name! I'm sorry, but Summer was a weakling. Why would she go out to the guy's car to, um, talk. Yeah, right. She odvously doesn't know much about guys. So this book is good if you like children's books, the eleven-years-olds seem to like it... but if your a real VCA fan... it just a sad disappointment. Hopefully Willow will be better.
