Summary: Hold Tight the Thread
Review: This third book in the Tender Ties series by Jane Kirkpatrick is a tightly woven tapestry of complex design. Marie Dorion's story comes to an end, tying up all the loose strands from the previous two books. Madame Dorion's story is of the continual struggle to find her place in the Oregon Territory as it undergoes tremendous changes from many sources. Underneath, holding it all together, is Marie's love for her family and her commitment to God.

This is a fascinating historical book and Jane Kirkpatrick has done excellent research as evidenced by her surprise revelation that adds more texture to the tapestry. The early history of the Oregon Territory comes vividly alive as we follow an Indian mother through half a century of living. To quote Jean Toupin, "This was what living looked like, the adjustments, the wrinkles of change."

Jane Kirkpatrick has written another excellent series of books that will stay in my memory, my 'heart knowing', a very long time.

Review: WOW! What a terrific end to a great story. Jane Kirkpatrick is a master story teller. The way she weaves fact with fiction to end with an exciting and believable finish is pure magic. This book is great on so many levels. It is an inspirational story of a woman's struggle against all odds at a time and in a place that made life for a woman very difficult. It certainly is a well researched historical novel. Beyond that it is a love story - of a woman for her God, her family, her neighbors and a new land just beginning to be "civilized." If you can only read one book this summer - this is it. However, I would recommend starting with "A Name of Her Own" the first book in the Tender Ties series.
