Review: I have been teaching first-year German using this book for several years and I love it; I can't believe no one has reviewed it yet! Aimed at developing student proficiency in speaking, listening, reading and writing, the book provides a colorful and authentic introduction to the German language and has won many awards. Each chapter begins with a dialogue that demonstrates the content to be taught in that chapter; grammar explanations are present but not foregrounded. Excellent support materials include a workbook, language lab book and tapes, an additional audio program, and, for teachers, an instructor's manual and test bank. The third edition adds full-color pictures, an accompanying CD-Rom, and a website that is integrated with the text. It's an impressive entry in the race to harness new media for learning. Weiter so!
