Rating: Summary: This book really helped me get to know Ronald Reagan the man Review: As a generation Xer, my growing-up years were the 80's, and this book helped me put all the things I'd heard one the news as a youngster into perspective. It's neat getting the history from one of the people who were making history at the time, such as the president. They have a unique view and insight into the events of the time. What I also liked is how Ronald Reagan presented his life story and how it led to his presidency, and the philosophies his parents tought him about life and politics. Again, another great insight into the man. I came out feeling what a humble leader he was, and though he made mistakes, he always wanted what was best for the people of this country who he was serving.
Rating: Summary: After Lincoln, the Greatest American President We Ever Had! Review: I read this book in a week. Very interesting and fun read. I felt like President Reagan was really talking to me as a friend reading his autobiography. Alhough I was born in 1981, I've always liked Reagan even then when I did not completely understand him or his policies. As a child of the 80's, I felt it was a time of prosperity and great optimism. I'm grateful for what President Reagan did to mold our world by bringing down the Iron Curtain and spreading democracy all over Europe and the former Soviet Union blocs. Not only this, he also restored America again. He showed us that we could be great again and need not settle for mediocrity like Jimmy Carter encouraged us to do. The world is all the better off for us and our children now and in the coming years because a man named Ronald Reagan was president.
Rating: Summary: Ex-President Reagan's Story in His Own Words Review: Ronald Reagan is still "The Great Communicator". His narrative of his life is written in such a way that it is easy to understand, and straight forward. It covers his life from the earliest times until the end of his presidency. As a Reagan man, I may be prejudiced but I think he makes it obvious that he was always a sincere worker for the good of the country. Obviously, his "Reaganomics" did get the country out of a recession. Just as obviously, his policies of a strong America that was no longer falling behind the Russians in military power plus his diplomacy with the Russians was a great help in the end of the Cold War and some of the hostilities with the Russians. He covers the Iran-Contra affair pretty thoroughly. It seems pretty obvious that he made a mistake on that affair but I do think it was an unwise decision and not a deliberate botch. I like his opinion and description of the "Tax and Spend" Congresses". Reagan has been accused of being a bumpkin or being uneducated. It seems to me that he had a much clearer idea of what the country needed than most politicians.
Rating: Summary: An Honest Autobiography of a Great American President Review: Ronald Reagan truly loved America and the American People. This autobiography more that captures the optimistic, cheerful spirit of the man who was President Reagan; it is also an open, honest, well-written story of his two terms in the White House and what America was like during the 1980s. There is no self-promotion here, Ronald Reagan was a man who accepted full responsibility for his actions, whether they were right or wrong. His story is told with clarity, with character, and wit. All of the joys and sorrows of his Presidency are captured here - from the highs that included rebuilding a strong military and a strong economy, to the end of the Soviet empire, and the liberation of Grenada, to the sorrows of the dead Marines in Lebanon, the Challenger disaster, and the Iran-Contra scandal. Ronald Reagan's story is a Presidential Autobiography that should be passed down from generation to generation as proof that character, optimism, grit and courage really matter. Unlike the "legend in my own mind" lengthy drivel recently written by one of his successors. In short, Ronald Reagan told a good story here - and it was the truth, warts, or no blemishes at all. He was a Great American President - and a Mensch.
Rating: Summary: The Greatest President of the 20th Century Review: This is the definitive book by and about a truly great leader, and a great man. Ronald Reagan came to office at a time when America desperately need a man of his strength and character. After a decade of downturn - particularly the Carter malaise years, Reagan renewed our faith in ourselves and our nation. Today's conservatives - especially our so-called "leaders" - need to read this book. Ronald Wilson Reagan - Ronaldus Magnus - will be missed, and we may never see his like again.
Rating: Summary: Tremendous and Honorable Review: This is the finest autobiography I have ever read. If you want a real insight into President Reagan this is the ONLY Reagan book you need to read. While other Reagan books, such as those by D'Souza, Peterson, Noonan and a few others are fine works, this is the finest and most noble writing of Ronald Reagan. A great American and, as history will show, one of the Greatest Presidents. There is no blame game or excuse making for ANY of his actions, but rather a warm and genuine insight into the who, what and how of the Reagan Presidency. From his simple beginings in Illinois to the Iran Contra affair and his relationship with Gorbachev, this is a story of greatness and what the American spirit is capable of. This is a feel good classic in the words of a fine and descent man who strongly believed in the greatness of America and its people. JR
Rating: Summary: THE FINEST BOOK I HAVE EVER READ Review: This is without question the finest book that I have ever read. You won't want to put it down. You know that when you read this fine work it is perfectly clear that President Reagan was a great man who loved and believed in this country and its people. While reading the story of his life I felt like he was telling me the story in person. President Reagan is a completely genuine man, something that is solid throughout the entire 700+ pages, something that cannot be faked. Trust me if you are thinking about reading about President Reagan, this is the book to read. President Reagan tells the truth unlike another former President whose autobiography was just released and is already being questioned for its truthfulness. No matter where you are politically, when you read this book you will know that President Reagan did what was right for our great nation. He will be remembered as one of the greatest Presidents in our history.
