Summary: Disturbing, Fascinating, Riviting, Prophetic.
Review:
This is one of the most disturbing books I have ever read. Fascinating, a page-turner and very upsetting. A great read.

In 1993, terrorists tried to take down the Twin Towers in New York and failed.
In 2001, they tired to hit three targets. They succeeded with the Twin Towers and the Pentagon. The plane headed for the White House crashed into a field in Pennsylvania.

This book is about unfinished business-their next target.

Vince Flynn writes of the takeover of the White House. The military detail is much like Tom Clancy. The fast pace is much like James Patterson. With each page, things go from bad to worse to even worse.

As a skydiving expert (D-454 and author of seven books on parachutes), I found the details of jumping into the Nations Capital not completely accurate.

Read this book, turn on the TV and get scared.
Then you will discover that Flynn wrote this book back in 1999. Prophetic.

Summary: Astoundingly Entertaining!
Review: "Transfer of Power" by Vince Flynn is an exceptionally well written, well paced action novel that is literally impossible to put down. "Can't put it down" is one of the most overused cliches in publishing but in this case it happens to be true. I devoured it in a handful of sittings. Rarely have I enjoyed a political thriller more.

The plot, which in a post September 11 world takes on new significance, involves the capture of the White House by a group of Middle Eastern terrorists and the efforts made to take back the presidential mansion. What comes in between is enough political intrigue and special forces action to satisfy even the most jaded of techno thriller fans.

My only criticism is that the character's that populate Flynn's book are a fairly standard lot for his type of novel. The protagonist of "ToP" Mitch Rapp, while a very engaging and likable character, is nearly indistinguishable from Tom Clancy's John Clark or Jack Ryan or any of the other black ops super spy's that are so common in this genre. Other character's suffer from the same sense of familiarity. The exception being the villain. Terrorist mastermind Rafique Aziz is a very well crafted foe for agent Rapp and is one the reasons the novel is so entertaining. I should note that while the characters are fairly standard I still found myself making a significant emotional connection with them

It's minor character flaws aside "Transfer of Power" is an example of the political/techno thriller at it's finest. It moves at lighting speed with not a single wasted page or sentence and packs a number of very satisfying moments. I highly recommend it!

Summary: Excellent Thriller
Review: As a fan of the great tv show, "24," I have been searching for an author that writes drama and tension in a similar manner to that show. Flynn expertly weaves political intrigue with action, and introduces characters that you root for and want to learn more about. If you like "24" and it's main character Jack Bauer, you will find much to like in Flynn's hero Mitch Rapp and the world he inhabits.

Summary: Great read
Review: I do not know where I got this book or how long I had it, but I wished I'd read it sooner. This was a good book start to finish. There were a few "I know what's coming next" moments, but they did not take away from the story at all. All in all it's worth the money. Might even make a good movie.

I will note that as I read this book I did have visions of 9-11. Those of you that do not want to read books about terrorists on US soil should stay away from this book.

Summary: An average, second-rate, somewhat okay, lackluster spy novel
Review: I have mixed feelings about this book. I have never read anything else by Vince Flynn, and my first impression of him as a writer is mild at best. I picked up a copy of Transfer of Power because I thought the storyline sounded interesting, not realizing initially that it was part of a series. So much of the story- the whole terrorist plot in general, and just about all of the specifics of the mission- are implausible and not very well thought out by the author. Sometimes, it's so bad, it's laughable. Sometimes the characters are so dumb, it makes you want to cry. In spite of that, though, if you are able to set aside common sense and coax yourself into agreeing with the poorly conceived ideas and concepts, it's a pretty exciting story!

Summary: OUTstanding and relevant in today's new world
Review: I read _Transfer of Power_ on a friend's strong recommendation. He and I are both fans of A.J. Quinnell who I consider to be the top author in the "covert ops fiction" genre. Well, the genre has another top-shelf author: Vince Flynn.

_Transfer of Power_ is an engaging and realistic depiction of a terrorist attack on the White House. All the more relevant after the events of 9/11, Flynn is obviously privy to many of the insider details of covert ops and the behind-the-scenes machinations that occur when these sophisticated teams are brought to bear.

The story revolves around an extremely intelligent terrorist named Rafik Aziz who exploits the greed of the U.S. political system to arrange a spur-of-the-moment meeting with the President. Through careful planning he has also inserted a team of terrorists that will help take over the White House at the correct moment.

Meanwhile (and through a fortunate coincidence), a U.S. covert ops team led by Mitch Rapp is in the process of kidnapping Aziz' mentor near the coast of Iran. The kidnapping and subsequent interrogation leads to the startling information that the White House will momentarily come under attack. With only seconds to spare, the President is warned of the attack and rushed to a secure bunker underneath the Oval Office.

Although disappointed, Aziz is prepared for this turn of events and his team takes hostages and secures the perimeter of the White House with high-explosives and a clever fusing system. He has engaged the services of an Iraqi safe-cracker for just this eventuality; the Iraqi sets to work on opening the bunker and capturing the President. This will give Aziz the ultimate hostage.

With the help of a retired White House employee, a just-returned Rapp is inserted into the White House to report upon the terrorists' activities. Rapp must determine whether there's a way to save the President, rescue the hostages and capture or kill Aziz... all on a time-line that is far more compressed than a politically divided U.S. government can imagine.

The realism around SEAL Team Six, the FBI's HRT and Delta Force; the brutal political gamesmanship; the diabolical mind of a heartless terrorist; and the very tough (but very human) CIA operator Mitch Rapp combines for a not-to-be-missed thriller. Flynn has created a work that is at the pinnacle of the genre. It is simply outstanding.

Summary: Read this book on a good reference...
Review: I was looking for a good book to read when I saw a review where Dan Brown ("Angels and Demons" and "The DaVinci Code") made a great plug for Vince Flynn. I thought that if Dan Brown gives you a compliment, you must be one heck of a writer.

I was not disappointed. The pace is lightning fast and very well detailed. The main character is the epitome of a "shoot now, ask questions later" type of person. He is just the kind of character to drive a political/military thriller. I'm always eager to turn the page to see what else might happen.

Great book!

Summary: Standards, People!
Review: I was surprised to learn from author Flynn that Saddam Hussein was funding Hamas and Hezbollah. And here I thought they wanted him replaced with a theocracy. If you enjoy lazy, half-researched writing like this, with lots of space between the lines to make up for a low word count, then this would be an admirable title for you. Certainly right-wingers still clinging to their old notions will find this pablum easy to digest.
Tom Clancy should shudder if anyone compares this hack network TV-quality writer to him. Needless to say, I skimmed through a couple of chapters then gave the book a thorough recycling.

Summary: Top of the Heap!!
Review: I was very impressed after reading Vince Flynn's first novel "Term Limits". I immediately purchased and read "Transfer of Power" when it became available. This one even surpassed the first novel in everything you like to read in this type of story. Hard to put down and go to sleep, you want to keep reading all night if necessary. Action is outstanding, relevant to the times and believable. The characters cover the whole scope of the good, the bad and the ugly and each one is done in magnificent style. His understanding of and the use of various types of military/civilian special ops units is excellent, coupled with the many times they are handcuffed by politics and behind the scenes manuevering of those in power, who are more worried about their press reviews than the final outcome of the crisis, makes for reading you feel a part of. Vince Flynn has rapidly gone to the top of my list of authors for whom I eagerly await the next book to be published. I hope that there are many more to come, and soon!!

Summary: I've read it three times
Review: One of my favorite books, hands down. What makes a book for me is a strong protagonist, and Mitch Rapp, a CIA assassin is about as strong as they get. The plot is chilling and Flynn details it and makes it real. Amazing book. Can't recommend it highly enough.
