Summary: Chick Lit Takes on Manhattan
Review: "Bergdorf Blondes" takes the reader into the world of Park Avenue princesses and New York celebutantes. The narrator, known simply as "moi," is considered the "champagne bubble girl of the moment." She and her best friend Julie Bergdorf, the perfect Park Avenue blonde, run around New York attending charity balls, restaurant openings, and high profile baby showers. They dress perfectly and eat nothing. They spend ample amounts of time with other perfect dressers and talk about clothes, the food they don't eat, and men.While I liked this book and found the numerous anecdotes about Manhattan amusing, I was disappointed that the characters never grew. Perhaps that was point. However, I would still recommend to lovers of chick lit everywhere (and those who read W and Vogue and Harpers) as the book goes into tremendous depth about a very shallow world. It is fun--and it is also a fast read.

Summary: For some reason I liked this one
Review: .... perhaps it was the fantasy of having the money to do what Moi did. All of the fabously rich things this nameless character, who refers to herself as Moi throughout, did kept me glued to the pages for some reason. I particularly enjoyed Moi's little acronmys!
I believe that the authors intention was for the main character to be a bit obnoxious as many of the reviews seem to imply. I think Moi was supossed to piss us off, and secretly make us wish we had the very life we are hating on as we read. I believe it was the authors intention to poke fun at the lives of the fabously rich, and show the reader what young, shallow, rich bombshells do on a daily basis and what they may be thinking.
While it really had no story to it, for some reason I still think it is worth reading. Take this one for what it's worth. Don't go into it thinking you're going to get a philoshophy lesson, just read it and laugh.

Review: A previous reviewer wrote that this book looked "like it was written by a 12-year-old." I beg to differ. Most twelve-year olds are better writers than Ms. Sykes. They know that writing a novel takes more than naming every brand available at Berfdorf's - it takes an interesting plot and interesting characters, both of which are sorely missing from BB.

Review: Bergdorf Blondes is a frightening funny novel about a pack of predatory Park Avenue Princesses in search of a PH (Potential Husband). Set in post 9/11 New York City and authentically complete with devilish details about sample sales, botox injections and Brazilian bikini waxes, this book offers readers the rare opportunity to observe celebutantes in their natural habitat: charity balls, private jets and 4-star restaurants.
Rather than take easy sucker punches at Manhattan's privileged party girls, first time novelist, Plum Sykes, instead lovingly explores the experiences and exploits of a group of twenty and thirty-something women, who will one day rise to the status of Ladies Who Lunch, provided they can find the kind of fiance who they believe will make a girl's complexion glow, as no dermatologist can.
Does it matter at all that these women see their fiances as stepping stones to a better life and better invitations, rather than true life partners? Not in the slightest. These heiresses eye eligible men as any successful predator would: as fair game in the hunt for sustenance, provided of course, the camouflage is of the haute couture variety, the meal is strictly low-carb, and the transportation to and fro is on a PJ (allegedly New York society-ese for a private jet.)
Rather than express their horror that this is the way some chose to live their lives, readers should instead sit back, turn the pages and observe as newcomer Plum Sykes exposes the city's charity circuit for what it is: a nervous group of strangely ambitious women who would rather work like ditch diggers to remain forever young, rather than develop the strength of character that will keep them interested and interesting long after they've traded in their Manolos for sadly sensible flats.

Review: Despite having hesitations about this book from reading past reviews, I was pleasantly surprised that I ended it loving this book! It's a great fun read, that kept me interested and entertained throughout. If you like shallow, light-hearted chick lit, then this is for you!

Summary: UGH - I'm returning it!
Review: I got through two of the most poorly written chapters I've ever read in my life. Closed the book and announced that I would be returning it. I have NEVER returned a book in my entire life. I wish I had also checked it out from the library and not wasted my money. Her thought process just seems to fall apart and her sentences wander. The two chapters I read appeared to be very shallow, self involved and ditzy. The sad part is that there are people who live like this. What a pity.

Review: I loved this book! I think either you like this kind of genre or you don't. It is a light, easy book to read, and a great one for the summer. I found it very interesting and hard to put down. I loaned it to my friend and she read it all in one day! This book isn't going to change the world, but so what. It was entertaining and I can't wait for her next book to come out.

Summary: Skip This One
Review: I was very excited by the book's premise--love the title and cover--however the read left me short. The heroine wasn't easy to connect to. The Manhattan name dropping (legs feeling like strands of Da Silvano's pasta and eating a magnolia cupcake) became gratuitous. Did the author get a commission from Chloe jeans?
A few cute moments but overall disappointing.
