Review: Gosh, what can I say about this book ??? I was assigned to read Anthem in a class project for my Honors English 10 class. Of course I thought it was going to be boring, however it changed the way I look at things, the word "I" means more to me because of that book. It also reminded me of the book "The Giver" which also touched me.

Review: If you enjoy Rand, I am delighted to direct you to another "Randlike" novel, THE LAST DAY, by Glenn Kleier. In THE LAST DAY, Kleier tackles the subject of authority in organized religion with startling "Ayn Rand" objectivism and outrageous wit and irreverence. LAST DAY is a classic, watershed novel in the manner of FOUNTAINHEAD and SHRUGGED. I found it a riveting read, and one that I greatly encourage all Rand fans to experience.

Review: I think Anthem was a very well writen book. I read this book for a class assignment. My teacher didn't think I would understand it. I thought that the usage of "We" intead of "I" was also very interesting way to read a book. If you are looking for a quick book that is also intelectually stimulating, I recomend this book

Review: one day my teacher came and brought anthem and distributed it to all the students.i started reading it on the same day and finished it in 4hrs. after reading anthem i founded myself very change and from that day i started thinking not only for myself but for others also. anthem should be added to every school,collage and university.

Summary: This book changed the course of my life.
Review: My tenth grade english teacher handed out Anthem to my class one day and told us we would be reading it. I started to read it during my next class period and by the last class period of the day I was finished with it. Although I may have missed the lessons in my last four classes of the day I was well compensated for them. Never having been quite able to grasp exactly what my world view was, Anthem put some of my feeling into order and helped me form a more concise view of myself. I found that my distate of having morals dictated to me and many other feelings about freedom had a place in the world of politics and philosophy. I felt much more empowered as a player in the market place of ideas. Often when I vote, talk politics, philosophise with freinds, donate money to third parties and whole host of other things I think back to Anthem and thank Mrs. Gault for intoducing me to it.

Summary: Made sense of my life
Review: It's nice to hear someone say it's okay to be selfish. The best line is "The word 'We'...is the word by which the weak steal might from the strong." I think what Rand is saying is that selflessness only gets you anywhere if you value your relationships with people, and if you do, you're only being selfless for your own gain.

In response to Mya: WHAT? RUSH 2112 (which is an awesome CD) came out 40-some years later than Anthem. Tell that person he doesn't know what he's talking about.

Summary: Short, but worth it
Review: This is my first Ayn Rand book. Before I read one of the 'big' novels (The Fountainhead, Atlas Shrugged), I might as well get an intro into her philosophy, I thought. To say the least, I got what I wanted. Anthem is an amazing book. Although to say that I agree with her philosophy wouldn't be totally truthful, she gets her point around beautifully. It is an amazingly powerful story with a civilization whose technology is par with the Dark Ages, and all emotion other than happiness is outlawed. My only gripe is the almost pathetic love story, but it's to be expected, since it hasn't been felt that way in hundreds of years. Well worth the 2 days or less it takes to read.

Review: Anthem is a very short book, it could easily be read in under an hour. It is not, however, the kind of book to buzz through. It is meant to be savoured, sentence by beautiful sentence. Dedicated Socialists give the book one star and scorn it because they are at heart deeply afraid of it. As the literary Excalibur, it slays the voice of unreason and exposes Socialism for what it really is. A beautifully written book, it is a must read for anyone who values their individuality. It conveys the same idea as Atlas Shrugged, but in a much more direct manner. It should really be added to every school's curriculum.
