Rating: Summary: Tom Clancy's Best yet Review: This is the best Clancy novel to come since Cardinal of the Kremlin. The way he described the military -- all the way from Navy Intruders, to Air Force Pave Lows, to Army Light Infantry --was amazing. I am a dedicated Clancy reader, and this one really blew me away. This is also a book for someone who has never read a book in the Jack Ryan series, because he introduces the charecters as if it were the first book. All in all, this is quite possibly, no, it is his best work of all. A brilliantly plotted, written, and planned novel.
Rating: Summary: Curiously Entertaining Review: It sounds odd but Clancy's spy tale takes about three hundred pages before it starts to be enjoyable and then the last three hundred pages are a greased slide to the end of the book. Slow though the first three hundred are, he holds your interest rather well by not letting the book become just a connected chain of events but rather an intricate serious of anecdotes. Interesting book.
Rating: Summary: Clear and Present Danger Review: This exciting book really got my attenction. Tom Clancy pulled off a really good book. The drug war in Columbia comes to America when an important person gets assasinated. Jack Ryan takes control. A highly skilled task force is assembled and some major descicions will be made.......... I enjoyed this book greatly because of the excitement and suspence. This book was brilliantly written.
Rating: Summary: A surprisingly awesome novel Review: "Clear and Present Danger" is a surprisingly awesome novel. I borrowed it from my teacher, from whom I also borrowed "Patriot Games." At first, when I started this book, I thought that it was a little slow-moving. It was the first big one I read by Clancy, so I didn't no what to expect. About halfway through (almost 350 pages), I thought that it was getting to be a pretty good book. The stage was set for all the action to start really kicking in a lot, and the characters were really interesting (especially Mr. Clark). When I was done with, I was blown away. The last last 100 pages were incredible, and I thought, "This was one hell of a good book!" The plot was intelligently planned out, and certain aspects of the book were almost shocking. The action is very suspenseful (once it starts to get speedy) and it is also a very interesting book. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who hasn't read it but reads Clancy novels, but not to anyone who has never read his stuff. Now I'm hooked. I just got a few more of his books, and look forward to reading them. Also, if you've seen the movie, don't let it change your mind about reading it. The book is very different and much much better. If you planned on seeing the movie first, don't. This book is guaranted to keep you reading.
Rating: Summary: Best of Clancy Review: I have read every Clancy fiction book (not the Op-Centers or military history stuff) and this is my favorite. It is MUCH better than the movie -- if you skipped the read because of the movie, go back and read it!
Rating: Summary: An excellent story Review: Clancy describes in intimate detail the life and challenges faced by special forces. This story is a little different then some of his others. It features Jack Ryan, but he is only one of the major characters instead of the main one. There is a lot of emphasis put on the perspective of the special forces units, especially behind enemy lines. The movie DID NOT capture the intense feeling of being both predator and prey that the soldiers experienced. Its cliche, but the book ruined the movie for me. If you liked the movie at all you will love the book.
Rating: Summary: A great a story Review: 'Clear and Present Danger' is an action book by Tom Clancy. It is to do with Colombian drug dealers who kill an American Ambassador, and the head of the F.B.I. This angers the president of the U.S enough for him to send undercover teams to Colombia, in the hope of exposing the dealers. But all of this information is kept back from Jack Ryan (C.I.A), and he tries to discover what is going on. He succeeds, but only to discover that the Vice-President has given away information to the Colombians, so they can kill the teams, he is a traitor. Ryan has to rescue the teams, and expose the Vice-President. This book is a complex book, but it was still quite enjoyable. It has an excellent story-line, the best I have ever read. But I think it is meant more for adults that for children and I found it quite challenging. I have also seen the film starring Harrison Ford, but I think the book is better as the film strays from the original a lot. I enjoyed this book, but I don't think it is meant for my age.
Rating: Summary: Compelling Tale, but... Review: ...not his best of all time. That distinction belongs to The Cardinal of the Kremlin, but this story is certainly a relavent and engrossing tale of the drug trade in Columbia and America. After an American citizen is killed by thugs, it seems like an open and shut case of piracy. But it is discovered that the businessman had ties to the Columbian drug cartels and the President (who is never given a name in this book, just his Secret Service codename, Wrangler) is determined to hurt the cartels once and for all. Operation Reciprocity is initiated with two parts. The first is a reconnaisance operation in Columbia to find the druggies, and the other part involves shooting druggie planes before they can deliver their cargo. But the gloves come off after the Director of the FBI, Emil Jacobs, is killed in Bogota, and the President's National Security Advisor orders a new operation: Reciprocity, which is meant to kill drug producers in an attempt to deal with the drugs. However, the NSA is corrupted, and the soldiers must fight for their lives. Jack Ryan, of course, comes to the rescue. He doesn't have a large role until halfway through the book. I thought this book was great, better than the movie, which I also liked a lot. The actor cast to play Ritter in the movie was especially good, but he looked nothing like the Ritter I was imagining. This book does have tons of bad language, and although its to be expected in Clancy's work, its concentration is larger here than in his other books. It is a little long at the beginning 100 pages, but it gets good quickly. If you like Clancy this is a must read.
Rating: Summary: excellent book enough said Review: this book is an excellent novel. it has suprising realism about the situation in columbia. they have a great enemy in this book unlike the other books the enemys real power isnt strength but knowledge. this is an excellent book. i also recoomend u buy the or rent the movie it is always good
Rating: Summary: Another winner by Clancy Review: At first I was wondering WHERE in the WORLD Clancy was going at the beginning of this fantastic read, but by the time you figure that out, he's got you going in a totally different direction with several new plot lines that make you wonder the same thing. Superb plotting and a hard-to-resist desire to teach those who are responsible for drugs in this country a lesson combine to make this one amazing read. Get ready for several hours of pure escapism, and by the time you are finished it'll make you a pure Clancy fan. Unlike many in the 'spy' genre who haven't been able to produce anything decent since the cold war ended (John LeCarre & Robert Ludlum) Tom Clancy apparently has something they lost: Vision and Imagination. This novel is an amazing example of just what vision and imagination can do for you. STILL one of my all-time favorite Clancy stories, and even though they made a valiant effort in turning it into a movie, it just isn't possible to adapt a Clancy novel into two hours. It's like trying to make the entire Old Testament into a made-for-TV movie...somehow you are gonna leave out something important. I just wish the Coast Guard had the authority to do what they do in the beginning of this book to drug runners they capture...
