Rating: Summary: best book i've ever read Review: if you've never read clancy, this could be a difficult book to get into, as it was in my case. however, once past trying to remember what person fit with what name it became the greatest book i've read in my entire life. i've read it twice just to make sure. this book makes you feel things you lead a somewhat bland existence. i actually raged at some of the characters because they were so human and so despicable in what they were capable of. from the ratings, you know it's a good book if there is no middle ground. people either love or hate the book, and you just have to take the chance that you might hate the book or you might miss out on one of the best thrillers in existence
Rating: Summary: It's not about drugs it about honor!!!!! Review: This book was about the often overlook issue of drugs coming into this country. One of clancy better books that takes you into the corrupt bussiness of the druglords smuggling drugs,to terrorism and to the betrayal of the U.S marine soldiers on colombian soil where all except one of the task groups survived!! I would advise any who like military thrillers to get this book! did i mention it was a great movie staring Harrison Ford!!
Rating: Summary: One of Clancy's best novels! Review: I loved this story. I loved the new character Chavez! Clancy's books are long and not for the simple minded. If you can't keep up, you probably won't like any of his books. Great detail about weapons and techniques. Lots of action. Great read!
Rating: Summary: Relentlessly Good!! Review: This is the best novel I have read in years. No surprise that it came from Clancy! I recommend that hoplophobic wimps not read Clancy, then they won't scare themselves as one reviewer apparently did.
Rating: Summary: Enjoyable, action packed thriller. Review: Enjoyed the book from the beginning. Tom Clancy ties everything together in his stories. He always gives sufficient background on his characters and any military equipment used. Unlike some of your reviewers, I enjoy reading and do not wish the books to end in relatively few pages. I would suggest this book for anyone who enjoys intrigue.
Rating: Summary: Clancy at his best Review: Once again Tom Clancy has written a novel of great intelligence and wonderful detail. Jack Ryan must face the president himself while combatting a secret war on drugs. The novel starts with an exciting beginning and brings all the sub-plots to a thrilling end in typical Clancy style. This is the best Clancy I've read yet
Rating: Summary: Not a page-turner by any standards Review: A tremendously long and boring account of the war against drugs. But Mr. Clancy seems to be too intent on explaining his 15-page histories of the characters and even of the firearms used by them that he sometimes seems to forget about the plot.
In fact, in the synopsis at the back of my version of the book, it says that the cartel has pushed too far by assaninating the Director of the FBI and the Colombian Ambassador to the USA. But When do they get assasinated? in the first 50 pages? Think again. On the 313th page!! So it certainly didnt keep me on the edge of MY seat.
The movie was brilliant, though. Maybe Mr. Clancy should take a few tips from it.
Rating: Summary: Riveting! A MUST READ-will keep you on the edge of your seat Review: One of Clancy's best! Clancy has a knack for intrigue and suspense, and keeps the story line going strong. I recommend all of his books for the realism and entertainment value. I always learn something from his books
Rating: Summary: Relentlessly bad Review: The impressive thing about "Clear and Present Danger," as with Mr. Clancy's other books, is how long it is - page after page of horrendous, addled English. After reading the whole book (I was laid up with the flu and couldn't reach anything else), I felt as though I'd been beaten; the thing utterly wrecked me. It's not just that it's badly written; it so lovingly dwells on the most tiresome details of guns and violence that, by the end, one begins to fear for Mr. Clancy's mental health. Not that he's difficult to diagnose; his disappointment at never being an army commado, displaced into a military fetish, screams from every paragraph - but the reader must wonder, will this man *snap*? Given that danger, I suppose we must permit him to keep writing these vast pathologies; but, Lord, why must we allow him to publish
Rating: Summary: Good Stuff Review: Clear and Present Danger was far superior to the movie. The novel has action o'plenty, and some interesting issues raised about America's war on drugs (and a very intersting use of a laser-guided bomb, too!). The novel is not quite as good as Clancy's other works such as The Sum of All Fears, Debt of Honor or Executive Orders, but it still has some extremely entertaining moments. READ IT
