Rating: Summary: Extraordinary Review: I read this book 5 years ago. It was truly addicting. One of the things I enjoyed most about this book, is a hallmark in all of Tom Clancy's books, his strict attention to detail. From characterization, to the implementation of numerous technical, military, and political protocol, this book will leave readers with just one dilemma, the addition of this book to a list from which to choose as their favorite. In my opinion, Mr. Clancy has truly cornered the market in the genre.
Rating: Summary: Classic Clancy! Review: Now that's what I'm talkin' about!! Although recently Tom Clancy has come under fire from critics, one cannot forget his earlier efforts, nor deny their merits. Clear and Present Danger is perhaps the best example of Mr. Clancy's abilities, which are formidable indeed. Whether it is espionage, military tactics, government conspiracy, or plausible, future scenarios you crave, you will be satisfied by this effort. It's length is not formidable (compared to some of Mr. Clancy's more recent tomes), and there are no real moral messages and expositions to wade through. Overall, Clancy at the top of his form, and highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: Clancy's Best Work Ever! Review: Ever since I borrowed Clear And Present Danger from my school library to read over the holidays, I have been hooked on Tom Clancy ever since. I have read 4 of his novels (Op Centre, Mirror Image, Clear And Present Danger and Hunt For Red October) and am currently reading Patriot Games. I would have to say that Clear And Present Danger is the best book he has so far written and I endeavour to read all of his current titles. I may just be a small person in Australia but I thoroughly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the mystery/thriller genre that Tom Clancy specialises in. Judging from the average rating for this novel, I can safely say that many people agree with me.
Rating: Summary: An excellent book and frighteningly realistic! Review: I am a dutch fan of mr. Clancy and I have read this book already some time ago. I keep rereading it because it offers the reader not only some good entertainment but it shows you all kinds of actions by different services of CIA and the american Army; action scenes in the book really grab you by the throat and once you start reading, you can't stop. I highly recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: Ex- Navy Seal in action Review: I just finished Tom Clancy's "clear and present danger". It is a big book, 688 pages and it took me a while to finish it. I highly recommend it. It features 'john clark' the navy seal in the covert operations. This guy is real cool in columbia. In one scene, he holds a map asking directions from the drug lord's henchmen on searching for gold and in a calm way while his right hand is behind his back pulling out a gun with a silencer and then he clips two guys. Shoots 'em right in the forehead from 10 feet way and then he shoots the third guy going around a park truck. very smooth. Go get it!!!
Rating: Summary: Too confusing for easy reading Review: I bought this book to read while on vacation. I found his writing style more confusing (technical) than was really needed. He had a lot of characters whom he referred to sometimes by their first name, last name or nickname. I found I was constantly confusing characters or forgetting who a particular character was. The story line is the U.S. going after drug traffikers. Now, maybe when this book first came out in 1989 this was an exciting, unfolding story, however, in 1998, I found that I had a pretty good idea how the story was going to turn out. This, along with the confusing style in which Tom Clancy writes, caused me to put the book down about 1/4 of the way through - it just wasn't worth my time to wade through it. I know Clancy is known for his technical detail, however, I felt his style just got in the way of a good story and an enjoyable read.
Rating: Summary: OK, but not as realistic as most readers think. Review: I've worked in special operations for two decades and this book is obviously written by someone from the outside looking in. It's a good book, but please don't think it's reality. You want a book about the same subject matter that is closer to what has really gone on, I recommend Bob Mayer's EYES OF THE HAMMER. Mayer is a former Green Beret who knows what he's talking about.
Rating: Summary: Very Good, Very Realistic, Very Coincidental? Review: This was the best Clancy book that I have read yet, in fact one of the best books that I've read period. After reading a few of Clancy's Op-Center books, I was beginning to lose confidence in him (formerly one of my favorite authors). This book certainly reminds me of what Clancy is capable of. As a little added bonus, I just happened to finish the book just hours before it was announced that the US attacked the terrorists targets in Afghanistan and Sudan in real life! Freaky!
Rating: Summary: Unclear and past belief Review: Disappointing - the main plot is quite good, but Clancy's subplots slow things down and get in the way (especially the Coast Guard scenes) and are unbelievable. The techno parts which give this and and his other books their uniqueness, also cause things to slow down. Also I don't know if I had a defective binding, but several scenes were repeated in my copy. Better editing would have vastly improved this work.
Rating: Summary: THE MOVIE'S PATHETIC BUT THE BOOK IS GOOD Review: The only thing the movie is good for is for you to laugh at it. In comparison the book is absolutely fantastic but when compared with other Clancys it comes down a few notches. Don't get me wrong, I thought the book was very good and I especially loved the development of the character John Clark but it doesn't quite live up to the expectations that Clancy set for himself in Patriot Games and The Cardinal of the Kremlin. (Is it just me or is anyone else starting to think that Jack Ryan is an oversized boyscout?). Still it's a must read in the Ryan saga.
