Rating: Summary: Kiss Uncovered Review: The best description of this book, in my opinion, is "Kiss Uncovered". Gene Simmons hid absolutely nothing from his readers. Gene is no great author but the book is above the standards of a rockstar. Overall, I believe this book was written for a profit for Gene and to add to his line of Kiss merchendise. Despite that, the book gives an in depth look on his life and the life of Kiss. I've been a Kiss fan for all of my life. They were there at the beginning and are now respectfully going away. As any Kiss fan should be, I was dissapointed to see Gene's views on Peter Criss and Ace Frehley and I was dissapointed with the actions Peter and Ace as described in the book. I always thought of them as larger than life superheroes, which according to Gene, many other people (including the band) have believed the same thing. But that, of course, is not the case. The book follows Gene through his life as a poor, young, Israelean boy named Chaim Witz, to a poor, young, American teen named Eugene Klein, to a rich, famous, business man and rockstar named Gene Simmons. It doesn't matter if you're a member of the Kiss Army or just a fan of rock'n'roll... the truth is anyone will enjoy this book. You will learn the many secrets of Kiss and will see how Gene lives up to his over-used motto "Rock and Roll All Nite and Party Every Day".
Rating: Summary: Slightly Disappointed Review: The story was good. The writing could have been better. I have always been a KISS fan and always will be. I was disappointed in the way Gene always wrote about himself as being better than any of the other members of the band. Of cousre he chased skirts, that was to be expected, but to keep on basing Peter and Ace got a little old. To also say that Paul got a VD from an old matress did not have to be mentioned. The other thing that really bothered me was that he never mentioned that he loved the mother of his children, Shannon Tweed. Is Gene capable of loving someone other than himself? I am sure that he loves his kids and his mother beecause he made that very clear. But what about Shannon? Is she not more than just a 6ft Playmate to share his bed with? Other than that, it was a fair to good read that does read very fast. Gene could have written a much better and longer book. The KISS story will never end.
Rating: Summary: The Demon has a heart Review: What surprised me about this book is that Gene Simmons comes across as a human being. He speaks fondly of his mother, his lovers, his children and even has some kind words to say about Tony Bennett and, of course, his band mates Paul Stanley and Eric Carr. His portrayal of Ace Frehley and Peter Criss may be disappointing to most Kiss fans, and it is possible to sense some bitterness in his writing. Not that he is not telling the truth - he certainly is. But if he were on good terms with those guys, he would probably try to present them under a more favorable light, as he has done a few times before, especially during the Kiss Reunion Tour. Apart from that, the book has none of the arrogance that usually permeates Gene's interviews. He is sincere about his non-committal approach to relationships but says he would do anything for his children. I strongly recommend this book. It is like having a heart-to-heart with Gene.
Rating: Summary: A Real Biography Review: I would have to say this biography flows better than most any I have read. The details are presented without telling everything. It is very well written. I would highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: So-So Review: I somewhat enjoyed this book. Some of it is a little longwinded, but a interesting life he has led. It is kind of funny how bad he bashes and Ace and Peter. In that sense he is kind of cold. But on the other hand, those 2 guys put Paul and him through alot of Bulls**t.Good try Gene; but stick to playing bass and the Demon. I enjoyed reading the Makeup years 70's and 96 to Farewell tour.Though that is about it. Again I must say he does love his fans.
Rating: Summary: Gene Simmons Go Home Review: Mr. Simmons couches a half-baked personal philosophy of life (and love and etc) in a bunch of pseudo-intellectual drivel that makes me want to burn my Kiss records. This review is going to be short, since I don't want to think about this book any longer than I need to. Basically, save your money, and send Gene Simmons a message that he should stick to singing songs and dancing around, and leave philosophy to others.
Rating: Summary: Better than I ever imagined it could be Review: I knew Gene went to college, so odds were this would at least be a coherent story. It was so much more than that. There were many points in the book where I laughed out loud. There were many points where I said "Aha! so that's it!" I'm all grown up now, so there was nothing here to break my heart or anything. I was shocked to realize how bad it got with Ace and Peter, although I suspected it was much worse than what was made public at the time. I enjoyed the story, and I'm sincerely hoping Paul does the same. You have to read this, it was terrific. It was so well done, and so fascinating, I read it through in about six hours.
Rating: Summary: Nihilism not needed Review: OK. Sex and Money is certainly the basis for many an entertaining read but this guy really has nothing to offer. His nihilistism devalues any insights he might offer - unless you really care about how this guy made money despite the fact that he doesnt care for music - and he is sure you dont either. Hmmm.
Rating: Summary: Great read albeit a bit self-serving Review: I've been a Kiss fan for 25 years and, while I have followed them through the ups and downs, I haven't read everything on them that I could get my hands on. Given that, this book was a very fun read. It filled in some gaps and confirmed things I'd long suspected (hiring Poncia to produce "Dynasty", for instance). It's great as far as that goes.
However, I think Gene should have turned a more critical eye towards himself. I'm not one to defend Peter and Ace (not by any stretch of the imagination) but Gene is quick to point out when they were replaced by hired guns in the studio but doesn't mention same thing happening to him when he had gone Hollywood. "Kisstory" has Paul talking about reading Gene the riot act for going Hollywood and, basically, using Kiss as a stepping-stone to other things just as others used the band. Gene doesn't mention this at all and seems to refocus on the band out of nowhere.
Don't get me wrong, Kiss fans are going to love the book (I did!) but I wish Gene had been more honest and self-critical throughout rather than just when it suited him.
Rating: Summary: i love it!! Review: i love this book. However, i did expect more. It is a good read for someone who just does not know about kiss. But to the die hard fans we know the story. Hopefully, paul may write one. Or someone in the orginal group other than gene get on writing more of that facts something that the fans don't know. i do admire gene and paul more on how they keep the band going. I wish there were more road stories etc..go buy it.:)
