Rating: Summary: WOWSA!!! Review: I am an elementary reading teacher and I have to say I was very impressed with Gene's portrayal of his life as he knows it. He's a very educated, intelligent man and his penmanship shows it. I read this book while traveling and couldn't help but giggle outloud about some of his and other band members escapades! If you were ever or still are a Kiss fan, I highly recommend!!
Rating: Summary: Mixed thoughts on an OK book Review: Firstly I thought it was a good 4 hours read. Gene comes off as very arrogant but he is obviously highly intelligent & very successful at almost everything he has done. There are many tidbits in this that I never knew like none of the 4 original members could read music. My main wish is that Gene be more specific in his exploits. I mean these relationships with Cher & Dianna Ross basically started with "we were seeing each other" completely skipping big parts.Gene makes Peter & Ace look like a couple of guys who didn't contribute much & were both mostly a couple of buffoon's. One thing that makes me think this is not completely true is one thing mentioned in the DVD "Kiss: Second Coming" when they got together they had different ideas on how the old music played, according to Paul. He said that they went back to the original recordings & Ace was right, Paul & Gene had changed over the years & Ace remembered it correctly. In this book, Gene says that Ace was just wrong. That he had degenerated from substance abuse so much that he just didn't have the mental faculties to remember or perform. It was the same way with Peter Criss, that he wasn't a very good drummer & didn't have any ability to perform at an adequate level. (I saw the 1996 reunion tour & he was superb). I don't doubt he had a huge amount of problems though. I wish there would have been more stories & details about the famous girls he has been with, more stories about the writing inspiration and more information about the making of each album.
Rating: Summary: It's OK, but a KISS fan deserves BETTER, DAMNIT! Review: Ok, I bought this as soon as I grubbed the cash from my mother. Then I ran to my girlfriend's house and started reading the ultimate autobiography from my favorite KISSer of all time, Gene!! I read it all in 2 days and I was... DISAPPOINTED!! I was hoping to read more about the 4,600+ women Gene claims to have slept with. He's been bragging about these scrapbooks containing his conquests but not one page appears inside this book. NOT ONE!! C'mon, dude--if you can get top-quality babes like Cher, Star Stowe and Brooke Shields, YOU GOT TO SHARE THE WEALTH, BUDDY!! The parts about Gene's early days as a poor, yet spoiled brat were the best. His mom was pretty cute and his dad was stupid for cheating on her. He cost himself a free ride on Gene's magic carpet. Let that be a lesson to you. Anyway, I hope there's a sequel that tells more about the BABES! That's what ROCK AND ROLL is all about, right? Peace!
Rating: Summary: What a waste of paper! Review: I have always been a big fan of Kiss and I followed them through the years( even the terrible ones!). I can remember saving up every dime so I could buy my Kiss records in the 70's. Well, after reading this book I feel like the biggest idiot in the world. Gene Simmons shows to be nothing more than a greedy, arrogant man who thinks he is the greatest thing to hit music. ... Do not waste your money on this or any other Kiss related item. I can tell you the whole book in 1 sentence. Gene hates Peter and Ace because they do not listen to him and He hooked up with some ladies... The book rambles on with story after story about the band. Only to be interupted in mid-thought about a woman he had sex with. The book in terrible and it makes you realize that all of those years of music were for only one thing! MONEY! Well, you have gotten my last dime you blood sucker!
Rating: Summary: Candid Reflections From The God Of Thunder Review: After reading Gene Simmons' life story, in his own words, "Kiss and Make-Up", I read it again and again. Being a fan of the band, but not an overly-obsessed fan, I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by Gene's open and honest approach to matters involving his views on family, his religous beliefs, and members of his band, KISS. Well worth the money for anyone who would like some insight on how "The Demon" came from nothing and became one of the biggest rock stars of the century.
Rating: Summary: exactly what I thought it would be Review: I've never liked Gene Simmons, but have always respected his business mind - he really was a pioneer in the realm of mass marketing. But as a person, he always seemed like a completely arrogant, self-absorbed, insufferable jerk. The book did not change my mind about either. The book is dreadfully in need of an editor - one who would have advised more structure and focus rather than Gene's random experiences with poontang and his selective recollection of KISStory. It seems totally obvious to me that he cut a deal with Paul Stanley to remain virtually silent on any good juice; the book is strangely devoid of Stanley stories. It also seems obvious that one of Gene's main objectives is to make Ace and Peter look as foolish and incompetent as possible. Gene, to me, has always had a propensity to say a lot without really saying anything at all. His biography follows suit.
Rating: Summary: Waste of Money Review: Whether Gene's busy trashing Ace and Peter on almost every single page, or calling FANS "idiots" because they like the original line-up (although Gene should be getting on his hands and knees and praising them - before the Reunion WITH ACE AND PETER he was practically broke), one thing is for sure - Gene will never give you the truth. This book should have been called "KISS and Make-Up Lies about KISS, Ace, Peter, fans, other musicians and about my importance in the world in general." This book is solely for the brainwashed, uneducated masses who believe a band that stopped being relevant 23 years ago is still on top of the rock world.
Rating: Summary: God Bless Gene Simmons Review: Although a bit more detail is left to be desired in certain areas of the book; overall - another brilliant effort from the ever-brilliant Mr. Gene Simmons. "In a world without heroes there's nothing to be, it's no place for me", Gene sang on 1981's "(Music From) The Elder" album. Thank you for being my biggest hero, Gene. Your music and your imagination will last for all times.
Rating: Summary: Stick to music not writing books Review: I was really looking forward to getting my hands on a copy of this book. But when I finally did.. what a disappointment. I thought this book would have delighted me with tales of excess. Was I ever wrong. Right from the beginning, this book was boring! I'm a KISS fan and have been for a long time now but I think Gene should stick to writing music, not books.
Rating: Summary: a magazine article is better than this. Review: gene simmons has proven one thing THROUGHOUT this book! that he's an arrogant rocker who "thinks" he's still on top of the world. gene simmons is out of work and soon going to be out of fans because of this book(ironically enough most of which whom will be getting this book). from the way this book goes it's like he listened to too much of "memory remians" by metallica(a much better band than kiss)cause he seems to be stuck in his glory days. gene simmons or whomever REALLY wrote this book seems to REPEAT the same bloody things in each section of the book! ...for hardcore kiss fans and would be kiss fans or just someone who's planning on getting this. i sugesst you look elsewhere for actual info without repeating cause you won't find it here! the writers of a magazine can do a bio better than this guy!
