Summary: Genius
Review: Wonderful! This book and a book called Dreams: Gateway to the True Self are magnificant! Look for both on Amazon.com.

Summary: Kate Reddy is hilarious, tenderhearted, cynical, and TIRED!
Review: What a terrific book! I've shamelessly stolen time and left other "must do" tasks to fend for themselves while I devoured this very smart, very funny, and piercingly accurate book.

I've read chunks of this book to my husband, to friends, and e-mailed selected tidbits to my sister. It's that good. ...Kate Reddy doesn't whine; she articulates, with wit and perception, what's so unspeakably tough about the shoes she's walking in. Even if they're fudge-colored pencil heels worn with an Armani suit as corporate armor!

Summary: She totally gets it!
Review: This book accurately captures the constant anxiety of being a working mom in a very high stress job. Many elements of the book are like a mirror of my own life as a working mom of nearly 11 years. The book captures all the emotions of working mommy-hood: anxiety, humor, love, joy, anger, despair. A quick read that probably bears reading twice to appreciate the layers of the story.

Summary: Great concept, poor execution
Review: When I read the excerpt for "I Don't Know How She Does It" in the September issue of Vogue, I rushed out to buy the novel. Why? Because I AM Kate Reddy. I work in international finance, have two young child and travel excessively. While I expected a humorous and truthful tale about the delicate balance between work and motherhood, what I found was a ridiculous, implausible story. Sure, there were some funny bits about returning to work too soon and the "mothers superior" stay-at-home types. But on the whole, Kate ignoring her wonderful husband, putting up with her lazy nanny, hitting on her client and smoking a joint before a meeting, and always being relieved be away from the kids is unbelievable rubbish! Any real working mother will tell you that they adore their supportive husbands, they work hard to find a great nanny and they don't have time for romantic distraction and believe me, drugs are out of the question. Finally, the kids are the only thing that keep you going. I, for one, cannot wait to go home every night to see mine.

Review: I don't have children, but even I found myself laughing out loud. Couldn't put it down! A gem!

Summary: hits home
Review: One of the best books to describe the ambivalence of the working mom. I laughed and cried and hurt for me, my kids and husband, and all of my friends. The truth is none of us can have it all. It is obvious as you read this book that Allison Pearson has been there, done that. I highly recommend it for both working and stay-at-homes moms. Well worth the $$.

Summary: Must read for Working Mums!
Review: I have been a working mum, and then not a working mum, and a part time working mum for the past 6 years. Allison Pearson really captures the essence of the Professional Woman's environment perfectly in this novel. A bit over the top at time, but then it is fiction.

Happy reading!

Summary: Bridget Jones would never make it as a working mom
Review: "I Don't Know How She Does It" is the blackly comic tale of a woman juggling motherhood, a job and a husband while feeling she's failing at everything. It's been called a "Bridget Jones' Diary" for the working mother, but let's face it, dear Bridget would never make it in Kate Reddy's complicated life. A must read for any mother, working or stay-at-home.

Summary: Buy this book!
Review: What a relief to see a portayal of a woman whose career matters to her (a lot) who loves her family (a lot) and so artfully explores all of the ambivalence the combination of the two creates. My only regret-- I've been up until 3:00am two night in a row to finish it. Tired-- but GREAT BOOK!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: "Entertaining"
Review: I thought "I Don't Know How She Does It" by Allison Pearson was an entertaing read. Easy on the eyes and fairly quick to read. The characters are a tad too busy for my tastes, but that's just me and not the writer. The writer is great and her book like I said before is entertaining and well worth the read.
