Rating: Summary: Bedazzled ... Once again! Review: E. Lynn Harris has done it again! He has managed to hook me from page one. I could not put the book down as I was enthralled by a story told from the perspectives of Raymond and Zola, but in which the lives of so many others - Basil, Trent, Davis/Norman, Yancey & Ava, Justine, Kai, Hayden, etc etc - were intertwined. His EIGTH novel incorporates so many characters from the previous seven and E. Lynn Harris masterfully allows the reader to feel like she/he has not missed a beat as far as what has been going on. His writing is nothing short of amazing, and I find myself once again waiting for the next installment by E. Lynn Harris.
Rating: Summary: You Go E. Lynn!!! Review: Just great, I don't know what else I can say, but this is definitely a must read. This book was definitely his style and he told the story like no one else could do. I loved this book from beginning to end. A fast read, I was finished in less than a week. Keep doing what you do E. Lynn Harris. I will always be a fan and look forward to more, more and more.Go out and get this book.

Rating: Summary: A Love of My Own is as great as I thought it would be Review: Writing reviews of E. Lynn Harris's books is seldom a breeze. Because although you immensely enjoy the book, from the plot, to the characters, to the dialogue, and the resolution, by the time you're ready to write the review, adequate words seem to disappear. And with his latest, A Love of My Own, a steamy and dramatic page-turner, let's just say that E. Lynn has done it again. Harris's mastery of class issues, romance, friendship and family takes readers on a whirlwind and delicious romp through New York. The novel's time period includes the 9/11 attacks, and the writing is done with such sensitivity and beauty, you relive that historical period once more, and through the characters you're able to know some of NYC's reaction during that tragedy. Old characters like Raymond Tyler & John Basil Henderson, and new characters such as Zola Denise Norwood quickly develop into friends. You are pulled into their storylines and are concerned about the characters' outcome. You feel sympathy for their plight, their search for true love, and you want justice to abound when unfair things take place in the characters' lives. E. Lynn is simply the best at what he does. His novels create great excitement and anticipation. And more importantly, he makes African-Americans proud because of the classy way he conducts himself, never forgetting to acknowledge his fans and helping them to feel a part of his astounding success. If this review doesn't make sense, it's not intentional; it's just a giddy reaction to an engaging book, and one of the finest authors out there today.
Rating: Summary: Love of my own Review: I loved the suspense! I loved the maddness I felt with the new characters. Read the book in 2 days I want a sequel to this one
Rating: Summary: Just what the author ordered Review: I was early on and early off the E. Lynn Harris Bandwagon. I read the first three books, the third one when it was released, and was always impressed with the easy and classy style with which he wrote. I have always thought Mr. Harris was worthy of the hype he received, unlike some who have come along since. Unfortunately, after a couple of incidents involving assumptions about my own preferences impeded me from reading in my usual places, I found myself out of the loop. I picked this book up on its release date for the purpose of reading it before the buzz hit. I found it just as i found the first three before it, conversational, breezy and quick tempo-ed. Harris' reads are easy without being overly simple; one gets the impression he has at least a nodding acquaintance with the background subject matter. It is written in small vignettes from varying points of view, which can be disconcerting if you do not pick up on who is speaking at first. Of course the overarching "taboo" of homosexuality looms over the proceedings, although it seems to be less of a centerpiece as I remember. I was generally satisfied with the book, it was entertaining and reasonably informative, and I would recommend it to readers of all tastes.
Rating: Summary: Excellent! Another E. Lynn Harris Masterpiece! Review: "A love of my own" is another E.Lynn Harris masterpiece. The book had all the elements of a great novel, i.e. romance, suspense, drama, mystery, etc. The book kept you on the edge of your seat and kept you wanting more. You just couldn't put the book down! I was happy to see the returning characters come back such as Raymond, Basil, Yancey and Ava. And I love the newest characters of Zola, Jabar, Davis, Sebastian, Justine and Kai. I think the old and the new characters added more zest, although the main characters is good enough for me. I am eagerly awaiting the next novel and what is to come in the next episode. Definitely more Basil, you just got to love him! It would be nice to bring Seattle back in the mix but i think Atlanta would be a great place to start the next novel. This book is a must read, especially if you love the works of Mr. Harris!
Rating: Summary: E. Lynn Harris has done it again ! Review: Once again E. Lynn Harris has given us a truly entertaining novel. I finished reading the book in two days. I could'nt put this page turner down. His next novel can't come out soon enough for me. I am really glad that their is an author out there that is not afraid to address real issues. I would recomend this book to anyone that loves drama because there is plenty of it in this book. Mr Harris introduces a few new characters as well as some of the older one's from his previous novels such as Raymond Tyler Jr and Basil Henderson. Go out and get this book. You will not be disappointed. Keep em comin E Lynn Harris. I will always be fan of your work. One.
Rating: Summary: About Time!!! Review: I've been waiting to read another novel by E. Lynn Harris since "Anyway the Wind Blows" came out. I'm not going to ruin the book for anyone who hasn't read it yet, but it was one of the best novels I've read this year. In this book, the focus is back on Raymond Tyler Jr. and a Zola Norwood, who had a small apperance in the last novel. Basil is also back along with his own issues and there are a couple of new characters that bring their own stories into play.Once I started reading the book, I couldn't put it down till I was done. There is enough deception and drama to hold anyone's interest. All in all, I loved the story line and the way the book was written. I recommend anyone who started with "Invisible Life" and the rest of the other books to finish this soap opra by reading "A Love of my Own". To those who haven't had the chance to read this book, HELLO, it came out on July 30!! What are you waiting for??!?
