Summary: Lukewarm
Review: E. Lynn Harris books are usually a lot of fun, but his latest is hampered by corny dialogue and shallow characters. In fact, Harris seems more interested in describing their glittery social lives (and steamy sex lives) than showing us what really makes them tick. The references to Sept. 11 don't add much depth to the story and the ending is ridiculously contrived. If there's a sequel, I hope he puts more thought and heart into it.

Summary: E. LYNN IS BACK WITH ANOTHER WINNER!!
Review: He's managed to create yet another pageturner...the saga continues! E. Lynn brings back his most beloved and notable characters--Raymond and that gorgeous Basil--and transfixes the reader with the details of the drama that each have in their life.

Raymond is struggling to come to terms with his recent breakup with his longtime partner Trent--while also battling the ever-present attraction that he continues to feel for the elusive Basil. In an attempt to put closure on his life with Trent, Raymond leaves the city of Seattle to begin a new life in the Big Apple. But he's not prepared for what he encounters when he gets there...either professionally nor personally.

Basil's back--continuing to struggle with his sexuality and longing for a "normal" life with his beloved daughter and her mother. The reader cannot help but sympathize with Basil; he wants so much to believe that his true predisposition is of a heterosexual nature..even while ignoring his true feelings for Raymond.

And introducing Zola...; she is editor of Bling, Bling, where Raymond is now the CEO. Reporting to Raymond, Zola struggles to find true love amidst the confusion created in her personal life by her involvement with her married boss, magazine owner Davis McClinton. Davis is a selfish, egomaniacal Black man who is revered for his business savvy...yet Davis harbors a certain contempt for Black folks in general....and he may even have a few secrets if his own.....

Once again, E. Lynn keeps you yearning for more....and this one climaxes in a twist that even caught me off guard!!

I just have one question....WHEN is the next one coming out!?!? Stay tuned.......

Summary: Riviting Sensual , a realistic look at a notion called love!
Review: I was very excited when i purchased the book and couldn't help wodering what happened to my favorite characters since the last novel.I was far from dissapointed and found myself staying up till wee hours of the morning to finish this book. I have gotten to like raymond a lot more and idenitfy with his issues. The book was well writted and i had the feeling of being there in every scence. I was really hoping that the growth that Basil supposedly went through as a father and finally comming to grips with his love for Raymond, should have been dealt with better in the book. I was longing o see this man finally come of age and grow into himself and all we get is an editorialized mention from Raymond to his Dr. Also, I expected some more conflict for Raymond when he was confonted with sleeping in the same bed with is quasi homophobic personal trainer. In the former books situations like that brought color and depth which made the reading irrisistable. I look forward to how the story unfolds. I assume that there will be another book and HBO, which is probably the only company with the balls to take a serious look at a black alternative lifestye story, will stand up and take notice at this writers awsome body of work and bring it to the rest of the world. This is no terry Mcmillin two hit wonder. E. Lyn Harris is here to stay in the minds and hearts of his many beloved readers.

Summary: Carefully written
Review: This is another good work from Harris. He has carefully chosen most of the new characters to blend in with the old ones, he's kept us waiting for the NEXT ONE! Please, don't keep us too long!

Great Story, loved it!

Summary: OOPS! HE DID IT AGAIN!
Review: As expected, E.Lynn Harris has stepped up to the plate and scored a home run with this one. Although I must admit I was a bit surprised by Basil's change of heart (tho thrilled). Zola and her crew are such a breathe of fresh air, hopefully leading the way to MANY more story lines! This is a book that you can't possibly put down. Sit back with a pot of your favorite tea, you'll be in for the long haul. Is it me, or does Raymond get sexier every chapter? Thanks Mr. Harris for another impossibly magnificent novel.

Summary: Another Smash..
Review: E. Lynn Harris does not disappoint with this latest installment, weaving a tale of sadness, intrigue, hints of romance, and some very contemporary issues into a very entertaining book. I own every book E. Lynn has ever written, and this book is just as consistently good as all the others.

The only reason I did not give this 5 stars was because I was a little heartbroken at how lonely and slightly desperate Raymond seemed throughout the whole book. He's usually so strong and sure of himself in the other books - this seemed a slight departure from the normal Raymond character.

If there's a God in heaven, someone will take these books and turn them into a fantastic dramatic TV series - along the lines of Showtime's "Soul Food". Raymond, Basil, Yancey B., Jared, Nicole, Peaches, and all the others would be wonderful to watch.

Summary: Happy to own A Love of My Own
Review: Hats off to E. Lynn Harris for this remarkable tale of love, friendship, power, and deceit, cleverly written in a page-turner fashion. I loved the characterization. I had to remind myself of the fictitious element of the story as it masterly made reference to so many recent events. I don't want to go in to detail about the book and make my review a spoiler, but I do want to commend Mr. Harris on a story that had me laughing and crying -- humble that "love always returns".

Summary: A Love Of My Own - Average At Best
Review: I rushed out to purchase A Love Of My Own in hopes that it would be an interesting page-turner. Unfortunately, it was not. As I read through this bland material, I wondered what happened to the passion and fire that raged through E. Lynn's previous novels.

While I liked the themes of friendship and loyalty, the cursory mentions of previous characters and the implausible storylines involving Ava/Yancey (again!) and Trent were a bit much. Ditto for the repeated references to 9/11.

E. Lynn is a fine writer and I hope he comes up with some fresh, entertaining material next time. A Love Of My Own fell far short of my expectations.
