Rating: Summary: Psychic sellout Review: If you want to know how to break into show biz and be famous, buy this book. If you are hurting and need advice from the other side, Read George Anderson or Rosemary Altea. The arrogance in this book was very off-putting
Rating: Summary: a friend from Michigan Review: I have been hooked from the first day, and read the book :"One last time"as soon as it came out. I am a 77 year-old widow, and, four years ago, my husband died suddenly, alone, in his hotel room, abroad, a few minutes, apparently, after I talked to him and said "I love you so much". So thank you, John, for what you're doing and how you're doing it. Just finished "Stories behind the stories". God bless you, Tania (and don't worry about Time Magazine, it's not the first nor the last time they do a thing like that)
Rating: Summary: All about how the show came to be Review: CROSSING OVER IS A STORY ABOUT HOW THE SHOW CAME TO BE: Crossing over goes into the various situations and developments that made this show possible. From the missteps to the fortune timing that made this show what it is.THIS BOOK ONCE AGAIN CONTAINS JOHN EDWARD'S FRIENDLY BANTER THAT VIEWERS OF THE SHOW AND READERS OF HIS PREVIOUS BOOK WILL RECOGNIZE: The style of this book is pure John Edward. You can almost hear his Long Island accent as he recounts his frustration with the TV people he has to deal with. What comes through loud and clear is quirky sense of humor that is so evident in the show. He has a pleasant way of dealing with people that don't get it; when he is telling them news that isn't packaged quite the way they expected. ONLY A SMALL FRACTION (30%) REALLY GETS INTO THE ART OF HIS TALENT: This book thought it is all about his ability as a medium, it is primarily about the contruction of the tv show and how his particular talent played a part in making this happen. However that aside he does discuss some situations that came up in his other book "One Last Time" in more detail, as well as reveal the signs his mother finally provided him. This aside, I hope he writes another book about situations that continue around the show. IN THIS BOOK YOU CAN SEE HOW PERSONAL A TALENT HE HAS: While reading his book you see over an over, how all-encompassing this work can be from effecting his life choices to realizing his car is missing. This is not merely a job but a calling. Facinating. ALL IN ALL A GOOD BOOK: This book was very interesting, but I found myself wanting more of what makes John Edward famous; his skill as a medium. While he also shows a remarkable talent for capturing his pleasant personality in his writing, I'm afraid the foibles of the TV mechanics don't so much interest me as the personal side of his craft. Mind you I thought it was wonderful that some of the camera men and assistants wound up with reading. This is truly the people side of it. I just don't like to be reminded of the marketing and merchandizing aspect of TV. MANY MISTEPS In the beginning of his career there were many missteps that bear no relationship to what he does. Marketing nightmares, technical difficulties and journalist entrapments. With so contraversial a topic as mediumship; it is a small miracle that John is the success he is today. It does not take much to tarnish a name and some of the earlier disasters must have felt he was being railroaded into obscurity, courtesy of some marketing/merchandizing mishaps. Don't worry John Edward, the rest of us know, journalist integrity is an oxymoron. Very few of us out here take what we are being spoon fed as gospel. ONE QUESTION: This is something I'm sure John Edward has an answer to. As a interested skeptic who reads alot on this topic of crossing over and then even past lives, is there any negativity that comes back? People like Hitler, Mengele, etc. have all died, does their energy ever come back through mediums? You don't hear much of this. Has anyone reported a past life of horrible deeds? I recognize in the show that John Edward has asked if a person is particularly overbearing or pushy but I have not seen any shows where a really negative person is revealed. However, given the 11PM EST air time, I have seen the show less often than I would like to. It is a great book and I'm waiting for more.
Rating: Summary: Crossing Over by John Edward Review: I bought this book on the basis that it was identified by Amazon.com as being in the same category as the James Van Praagh books. I was deeply disappointed. It is primarily a book about how the author played the media game to become "famous". Who cares about all that "hollywood" stuff? It is very short on psychic content and spiritual insight. It does have a few touching scenes.
Rating: Summary: Crossing Over Review: This is the best by far. I felt so warm and good insided when I read it. You feel as though Mr. Edward is talking to you. This helps you to understand his life and his chosing a lot better. You are next to him on the journey of understanding. What a wonderful and powerful feeling I recieved from this book. Thank you so much for your thoughts and ideas. Ann Moore
Rating: Summary: Finally, a down to earth, real human medium. Review: This book tells it as it is. It's honest, truthful, sincere. John shows us his fears are human and natural, his psychic ability has nothing to do with his halo quotient. He's a real human, and he's doing something that many of us can do but haven't tapped into. His book is not another spiritual, religious, lovey dovey gooey journey to God, Thank God! Instead, it's an honest, real view into the scary process of making a TV show where he channels those who are now on the other side. It is also a peak into an "average" guys world, who has all the fears and problems we all do. He can't walk on water, and yet the other side brings him and those who he helps, walk on water moments, some of which he shares with us in this book. It's not because he's evolved beyond human frailties, it's a book that shows how matter of fact and wonderful this kind of communication can be. And his motives are real. You can see it and feel it. All he's doing is following his life plan, listening to his guides and following his "gut". A brilliant way to live ones life! In the most straight forward manner, John is showing anyone who can be open enough to hear, there is no death. And as always when dealing with the other side, he's showing us how interesting it is; how little seems to go the way we deem it to go, but the lessons offered are always huge. John shows us the magic isn't John, the magic is the other side. He's just a telephone for them. What I love about John is that he doesn't pretend to be anything else but. This book is a chance for us to learn about the humanness of a psychic; that he's no different than anyone else. He has problems with ego and anger just like anyone. And he shows us that. He's Human! And thank goodness. His ability is not the star here. It's the other side..they are the stars of the show, and the book. It's the fact that yes, there is another place, another dimension. And someday, we'll go back there. In the meantime, John is showing us the truth. It's not angels with wings. It's not about being a Guru on Earth. None of us are. He shows us that it's about the process of growth. It's about staying open to possibilities. It's about the fact that he's just a guy from Queens who can talk to your dead mom. He can't put it any plainer than that. And that is all he's doing. This book seemed to me like a release of all that he went through as he was guided towards a TV show and also his own personal evolvement that paralleled it. I for one was interested to know how the heck he managed it. It's about time someone took the mystical magical see all guru fru fru out of the process of talking to the dead. John does it in such a great way...straight, to the point, and often with a great sense of humor. He's a fresh breath of honest air and his way of dealing with this topic has affected me deeply. I know the truth when I see it, when I feel it. John is staying as true to himself, his plan, his guides as he can, baring the human factor. He couldn't talk the way he does in the book if he weren't. Heck! I'd recommend this book just for the Debbie's Daddy chapter! Even if you are not interested in the machinations leading up to the TV show, it's worth buying the book just for that chapter. But, there is so much more here if you really want it. I just want to thank you John for staying who you are while showing the world your truth. That is the hardest thing to do here, and quite possibly a bigger lesson for us than the fact that there is no death, only transition. And you are succeeding at both.

Rating: Summary: Crossing Over is Truly Wonderful Review: I have read John Edward's Crossing Over and another book by Sylvia Browne; and I have visited www.johnedward.net. and in addition a few experiences with precognition and personal experiences with ones I hold dear who have crossed over, and whom I continue to appreciate. I am expressly glad John Edward has taken such a brave step in making the psychic world more of our everyday world, as I feel it should be. I also appreciate his selfless interest in educating others that this is not so far a journey for any of us to learn to accomplish what he himself has learned to do. Our lives on here on this side, as John says, is where we should concentrate on developing; but I include that throughout history, almost universally, religion has held a faculty for those who pass on, respect for their lives, lessons, contributions and continuing presence in our hearts. To deprive the other side of this recognition is like the poison of bigotry. I respect John's views throughout his book and appreciate his compassion, and his sensitive, good-sided nature. I would also like to thank his "boys" and John's willingness to listen to them. I would like to see John Edward, and his wife, and others, mediums, who help to build a better understanding, to have a long and fulfilling life so that we can learn and appreciate more of what God's Love is for us, and what we can do to better our lives and the lives of others each day. The last feeling in the above paragraph is, I'm convinced, the feeling generated by the will of those on the other side. I think that is John's message. And I think we should listen.
Rating: Summary: An Emotional, yet Educational Experience Review: This is the first book by John Edward that I have ever read, but it definitely won't be the last. I felt, as many other readers did, that John was speaking directly to me. I was incredibly moved by a lot of the experiences shared in this book, especially the ones involving Carl Perkins' daughter. I enjoyed learning about the process that others besides John Edward went through on the path to their own development... If you don't buy this book, borrow it from someone who did!
Rating: Summary: Survival of Consciousness Review: John has written another wonderful book about his experiences with survival of consciousness. Many have enjoyed his TV series and have witnessed his experience with those who have crossed over. John realizes that he is trying to show color to blind people and he is very patient (regardless of what he sometimes thinks) with us who have not yet learned how to perceive color. The picture he describes of those who have crossed over is usually quite blissful. I hope he continues his work and continues to find much success at it. I enjoyed very much the sharing of fears, doubts, joy and wonderment. God has given us each other to learn about Him and I appreciate his gift of John.
