Rating: Summary: AWESOME! Review: A wonderful book! I couldn't put it down if I tried! While having a good background in God, it also makes you want to read it over and over. A must-read! I recommend it to anyone and everyone.
Rating: Summary: Great read! Review: After hearing lots of rave reviews on the O'Malley series, I decided to check them out for myself, starting with the prequel. This book is amazing from the opening pages. Suspence is intertwined with romance throughout the pages of this novel right until the excellent ending. If you're looking for some good books to keep you occupied, I suggest the O'Malley series, starting with Danger in the Shadows.
Rating: Summary: Best Book I've Read In Awhile! Review: I bought this book for my Mother in Law for Christmas. She read it while visiting us in 2 days and left it with me, insisting I had to read it. I couldn't wait. I didn't read it as fast as she did, but I could definetely see WHY she read it so fast. From the very beginning, it draws you in. It's very simple to read, and flows very smoothly. Very easy, for me, with two small children to put the book down and come back to it in a few hours. I never got "lost" trying to remember what was happening. The story was great and the ending fabulous. I look forward to reading the O'Malley series and more of Dee Henderson's work in the future!
Rating: Summary: "Danger" is slow moving. Review: I first read Dee's novel "The Negotiator" and liked it very much ("Negotiator" was fast-paced and funny), so I decided to pick up its prequel "Danger in the Shadows". The writing is no doubt very masterful, but the pacing of "Danger in the Shadows" wore on my nerves. The romantic angle of Adam and Sara is set up first...far too well and for FAR too long before getting to the suspense. The romance was believable, but it almost seemed like there was no excitment or spark between the two of them. I was yawning until the mystery of Sara's stalker emerged as a significant plot-point (half way through the book). The problem I have with this novel is that the writer spends so much time and energy on mundane stuff, like she spent almost 2 paragraphs on Sara just assembling and making pizza! And much too much time is spent on the characters over-analyzing every little thing. The book could have been written tighter, which would have made the pace pick up. I think her overly descriptive writing distracts the reader, IMHO. I still give it a luke-warm 3 and wished I hadn't spent... to special-order the book!!
Rating: Summary: A GOOD READ Review: I found the story line and theme to be very intriguing and well developed, though I might have done a bit of editing here and there. Didn't take away from a wholehearted recommendation of the book, however.
Rating: Summary: Sorry- but I was disappointed Review: I just felt like the characters, especially the leading lady, were so canned. It felt like the author was trying to impress us with the "perfect lady". Well, I would have liked more realistic characters. I'd also have liked the author to write more about how the characters practiced succesfully and unsuccesfully, their faith in every situation. Sorry- this book didn't do it for me.

Rating: Summary: Danger In the Shadows Review: I read the book Danger in the Shadows. This book is about a woman who as a young child her and her younger sister were abducted my a madman. Her younger sister, Kim, was killed by this madman but Sara was spared. The man that killed Sara's sister was never found and Sara had to live with the thought of him killing her everyday of her life. She was put in protection and had to transfer jobs and switch homes dozens of times. There was no time for love or close friendships. her life consisted of her family, mainly her brother, her work, and the FBI. One day after staying late at work she was in an elevator with Adam Black, a famous sports star, when it abrubtly haulted to a stop and the lights flickered off. Filled with panic and the flashbacks of her childhood Sara froze and stood cold. Adam Black helped her through it and made sure she was okay. Although Sara knew it couldn't happen to her, she felt a connection between herself and Adam, but had to deny them for her own protection. Throughout the book Sara struggles through her relationship with God, and trusting him to take care of everything. But when the strange man that attacked her many years ago comes looking for her, Sara's life gets turned upside down. But in the end through Sara's faith she makes it through. Personally, I loved this book and it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves suspense with some romance mixed in.
Rating: Summary: Suspense and romance finally get equal air time! Review: I'm officially a Dee Henderson fan, after just one book! Unlike some other reviewers, I found this to be a very quick read. It could have been shorter if some of the descriptive and introspective paragraphs were spliced out, but I personally wouldn't want them to be. Ms. Henderson uses description to enhance, rather than stifle, her story; and it's refreshing to read a novel this thick in which neither suspense nor romance is slighted by the other. She has a pleasing writing style (despite a slight tendency toward comma splices) that makes reading her stories feel like vacation, not work. In addition, both Adam and Sara are likable, decently developed characters that carry their story well. Sara's fear and flawed relationship with God actually strengthens her as a sympathetic heroine. I grew to love and understand Sara, and the two "parts" of her personality (Sara Walsh and H.Q. Victor) is a wonderfully haunting way to explain the impact the kidnapping had on her. And for those who complain that there is too much romance and not enough time developing the Bad Guy, please remember this is the Palisades Romance Series, not the Dangerous Shadows Series. Go into these books *expecting* romance, and when one of them (like this one) delivers so much more, you'll find yourself pleasantly surprised.
Rating: Summary: A great, suspenseful read Review: Like my Houston friend, I read the Negotiator (Book I, O'Malley series) first. When I found out that "Dave" originated in this precursive "romance" novel, I just had to find out more about him and his background. I was not disappointed.
I was surprised that this was classified as a romance novel because a Harlequin fan I'm not. This was a classic suspense novel with gut-twisting turns and dark secrets. Though I guessed how the story would end, Ms Henderson wrote it so well that it still left me wanting more at the end.
I found it interesting that Sara, the female lead, was somewhat lacking in her faith and perhaps had been praying and expecting the wrong answer since her mysterious and clouded childhood. And yet, her love interest had to be a believer or she would not consider him a 'match'.
A sombre touch, but happy endings all around and a good introduction to the O'Malley clan you'll meet in Ms Henderson's O'Malley series - not to be missed!
