Rating: Summary: Not his best, but still pretty good Review: Blood Work kept me occupied on a plane trip I took recently. It was engrossing enough that I didn't take much notice of a 2-hour delay while sitting on my plane at O'Hare. I didn't think it was quite as good as the Harry Bosch novels, but it was still worth getting in hardback. Connelly's writing style is wonderful -- he pulls you in, throws a few things to you to make you think you know what's going on and then you suddenly realize that you're not so smart after all, that you've just been falling for his set-ups. I highly recommend this and all his other books.
Rating: Summary: Bring back Bosch Review: Blood Work is good but not great. The plot is somewhat contrived, but the characters are interesting and believable. Black Echo has always been my favorite Connelly read, and Trunk Music continues the tradition of the mystery thriller genre, and for all the good points and at times great writing, Blood Work, well, it just doesn't quite work. I know this because it didn't keep me up late, but I did manage to be entertained enough to turn off the NCAA semi-finals - so that means something.
Rating: Summary: A great Cop and crime thriller. An easy and fast read. Review: A great mystery thriller that pulls you into the story. Very easy to follow and couldn't put it down.
Rating: Summary: Good from far, far from good Review: Michael Connolly has turned generic in his very average Blood Work novel. Previous offerings had me anxiously awaiting this recent text. After finishing the book I wondered Why did I bother? The ending was lacking from Connolly's usual standards. The worst thing about a book in this genre is the ability to easily put it down. I put it down a lot. Blood Work was a decent read, with a ho-hum plot. We want Harry Bosch back along with Michael's cunning ability to entertain us. Back to the days when I could not put down a Michael Connolly novel if tried.
Rating: Summary: ANOTHER WINNTER FROM CONNELLY Review: I finished this book in two days. I couldn't put it down (work certainly got in the way!!). This is the third novel I've read by Connelly, the other two being Trunk Music and Concrete Blond. I love his Harry Bosch character, but Terry McCaleb is a winner, too. A lady in my office got me started on Michael Connelly and I think I'm going to go back and read his earlier novels. I would recommend this book to anyone.
Rating: Summary: The best thriller published the first quarter of 1998! Review: Michael Connelly has done it again! He is a master at intricate plotting with characters about whom you care and prose that sets him among the top authors. I read this book in two days and regretted it was over. Unlike some of the other reviewers, the end did not telegraph itself to me.If you want a GREAT READ, then read this novel by a master story teller!
Rating: Summary: KNOCKOUT PUNCH - NOT Review: Connelly readers- be at ease. You can put this book down! Easily! I did it many times, often wondered why I was bothering to finish it. Contrived is the word that comes to mind. This is no more than standard fare in the genre with an attempt at a Connelly-like plot twist. For Connelly that is. Good effort for any other writer. Slow, dull plot. Characters require a sustained suspended disbelief that is just too much to endure. Hey, Mike! Go read Trunk Music. Harry is your friend and ours too. And the world has enough psychotic killers in the other books. You have clearly shown that you don't need them, Poet aside. Cut the crap to meet your contracts and start writing again. Your real fans are still waiting. We forgive you.
Rating: Summary: Very difficult to stop for any reason Review: Well, as a previous reviewer said, if you are used to the more popular authors, this really stands out. The subject matter had a new twist on some old themes, and it was very readable. I found it to be quite absorbing, although the end was a bit blah, whixch is the reason for the "9". The bottom line...I'll order this author again.
Rating: Summary: Let's hope Connelley makes this a series Review: This was an exciting and fast-paced story, the characters were well-developed and the hero, albeit reluctant was interesting and driven. I loved learning about the various law-enforcement agencies and how the main character munipulated them to to get to the truth.
Rating: Summary: Brilliant Review: Definitely different than Trunk Music, but hard-to-put-down book! I'd like to read more and more and more!
