Rating: Summary: This book has character Review: After reading Trunk Music, I was a little reluctant to pick-up Blood Work. Mainly because in TM I found Bosch to be a character that I just didn't care about much. He didn't seem to be the type of person I could relate to. But, I was very pleased with the Terry McCaleb character. He was more real. The minute we learn that he has recently undergone heart transplant surgery we begin to grow tense about if he will even make it to the end of the book. Very nice tension device. Blood Work has an excellent premise and delivers on the promises made early on.
Rating: Summary: If you liked reading it, try listening Review: I just discovered this author by reading Black Echo. Encouraged, I bought the unabridged audio of Blood Work. Not only was it great, but there are many more books to listen to. I can't wait!!Many of the Connelly books, including this one, are read by the incomparable Dick Hill. His reading of Buddy in this book was so fabulous, and so REAL. I expected to look over and see the guy standing there. Once you get hooked on these audio books, you're HOOKED.
Rating: Summary: Connelly is capable of better Review: Read Michael Connelly's "The Poet" and thought it was great, so I was eagerly looking forward to his next book. Sorry to say, it has been a disappointment. I really wanted to like this book and that's why I read to about page 75 before throwing in the towel. I found the characters to be uninteresting, the plot thin and my windows needed washing. Apparently, my opinion is not that of the majority and that's o.k. but, Mr. Connelly, I'm sure you can do better. Thanks for trying.
Rating: Summary: A great detailed very interesting read Review: I am a great fan of the Harry Bosch stories. I became "hooked" on Michael Connolly after reading The Poet. I then chased up all earlier novels of this author. I just finished Bloodwork which I think is fantastic. I now have to read Poet again because he referred to this killer so often in his latest book. I hope he writes more soon.
Rating: Summary: A very good read. Recommended. Review: Once getting over the basic premise, that soon after a heart transplant our hero is raring to jump back into the investigation game, this book got better and better. As a reporter, used to dead ends and false starts, I found the portrayal of an investigative process a good one. It's a new character and a different approach, but a good book nonetheless.
Rating: Summary: never a dull moment Review: After reading the paperback of Trunk Music I gravitated to this book during my next bookstore visit by seeing the author's name. A great decision. Finished in two days. Living in the area this book is set, I could actually picture myself riding along through the accurate geographical descriptions. A potential blockbuster movie ala L.A. Confidential. Can't wait for his next one.
Rating: Summary: This was a well written easy to read book. Review: This book was great. I really enjoyed it. It hooked you into it within the first 5 pages. It was very well written and easy to read. I would highly recommend it for others to read.
Rating: Summary: No Poet, But Good Work Review: Something about the very first chapter left me rolling my eyes as Connelly introduces Graciela and Terry. Once I got past that and the repeated reference to the title, I was drawn in by the exciting twists and turns. I really could not predict the ending and was impressed with the way Connelly brings the reader to the point of recognition of what's actually happening. I felt he made a couple of leaps that seemed a little unlikely but all in all, it was a good read. The Poet on the other hand is a GREAT read.
Rating: Summary: Great story - all the pieces of the puzzle fit in the end! Review: Just like the Harry Bosch books, the main character in Blood Work is heroic, yet flawed. You are right there with him as this likeable, former FBI man uncovers piece after piece of an amazing puzzle. When he finally uncovers the truth behind the mystery, you really feel his pain and anguish and confusion. Truly, a remarkable story! Connelly is superb once again! While the core will always be Harry Bosch and the Hollywood homicide division, this is a nice break a la The Poet. I only wish Connely would crank out these books faster - I'm reading them too quickly!
Rating: Summary: I was terribly disappointed! Review: As a fan of Connelly's "The Poet," I purchased this book instead of getting Plimpton's "Capote." After finishing the very predictable and not-very-interesting story, I wish I had gotten the Capote book. I guess I expected too much. . . like a good story with multi-dimensional characters and a not-so-obvious plot line. I guess it's too much to ask of an author to produce work that is insightful and well thought out. This book was a big disappointment. Enough said.
