Summary: A Wild Ride
Review: A most unusual premise: An ex-cop has just received a heart transplant. He is under strict instructions to take it easy. Then he meets a woman who asks him to investigate her sister's murder. He's not going to do it, until she tells him the rest...

From there, Michael Connelly takes the reader on a wild journey into the darkest heart of mankind. Connelly manages to weave an engaging story while avoiding all the cliches for novels about serial killers. The end will leave you breathless.

Summary: Blood Work has the most unusual plot that I have read!
Review: I know why Blood Work has 59 reader reviews, it is an excellent read! The unusual plot, realistic characters make for a "can't put it down" read. I just ordered several more of Michael Connelly's books and when you read Blood Work you will too.

Summary: TERRY'S SENSE OF OBLIGATION TOUCHED MY HEART
Review: This was my first Connelly read and I can't wait to try his others. I loved the suspense & twists of this novel. However, I was most captivated by McCaleb's need to bring his doner's killer to justice. I wish, however, that there had been an epilogue relating to the relationship to McCaleb & Gracelia. I hope he brings this couple back into an upcoming novel.

Summary: I read it in one weekend
Review: I don't understand the people who didn't like this book! Either they 1) have no taste, 2) think they are critics and must hate everything, or 3) they don't know a good thing. I have read much of Connelly, and many like him. This is not only his best so far (and I have like them all), this was one of the most suspensefull books I have read and the mystery lasted until the end. Read it. Anyone who likes these gendre of books will love it or they are very strange. Note how the majority here gave it 4 or 5 stars. The miniority has a screw loose!

Summary: A good evening read!
Review: I enjoyed this book. I had not read this series of booksbefore nor have I read anything from Connelly.

I assume that Blood Work is the latest edition in a series of stories because the re seems to be many places where there are discussions of past cases of Terry the former FBI man th at were done in a kind of summary voice.

I have to honestly say I didn't like was the fact that Terry, the main character is not the strong, macho-hero type. I guess I am a bit old-fashioned in my hero image!

Terry is smart, sensitive and somewhat sexy, but I felt worried, every step in th e book that his heart would give out and he would die.

(I knew that because he is the star, he wouldn't really get killed-off, but I was worried that the story wouldn't be as believable because of the extent of his medical vulnerability...)

Somehow overcoming this particular physical weakn ess is an impossibility. I guess the challenge to the main character was whether he would be abl e to be as effective of a crime sleuth, with the heart situation. Okay. I see where the author w ants me to go, but I am not sure I got there on that issue.

At the predictable part of the end when Terry's new love and her nephew are in their predicament, I wondered how in heaven's name wou ld his new heart really hold out under all of these circumstances.

I also couldn't get with Terry 's guilt driving him (in the beginning) to take this case in the first place. How does one do all o f these things within 9 weeks of such serious surgery?? But, of course, as I am ignorant of this condition, I guess it must be possible if Connelly put it in his book.

All of that said, I enjoye d this book a lot. It is a quick read and I finished it in about a week of , before-bed reading s essions. I am pleased enough with this author to go and buy past editions to see what Terry was up to before the heart surgery occurred.

Summary: Enjoyable Suspense
Review: Michael Connelly can make characters come to life as few other authors can. I'm a big fan of his Harry Bosch stories and was afraid I would be disappointed in this new character, Terry McCaleb, but that wasn't the case. McCaleb was interesting and likeable. The plot was intricate and well put together. And, although the conclusion was pretty far-fetched, it didn't detract from an enjoyable read.

Summary: A book that you can't put down!!!
Review: I've read all of Michael Connelly's books and sure wasn't disappointed by this latest one dispite the fact that he has introduced a new character. I was kept entertained and surprised right until the last page and for someone who reads as much as I do, that's saying a lot!!!

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Disappointing; not up to his usual finesse.
Review: Michael Connelly is one of my favorite mystery writers, so I was doubly disappointed in "Blood Work". The characters are one-dimensional, the plot borders on the implausible, and I had figured out "who did it" by the third chapter. Plus, despite all the warnings about not stressing his transplanted heart, our hero escapes with no physical consequences. Perhaps the publisher insisted he churn out another bestseller - this has a churned-out feel.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Non-stop action, adventure, and plot twists.
Review: Loved the characters and the attention to detail with the medical and FBI parts of the plot. If you like John Grisham, Patricia Cornwell, Ken Follett, Robin Cook, and Robert Parker ----- you will love this guy.
