Summary: Good Beginning
Review: Sue Grafton's early books with Kinsey are very good. Believe it or not - they start to get REALLY good later in the alphabet! This book starts off with a missing person, then evolves into arson, burglary and murder!

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: It was ok
Review: The plot is very clear, but I feel that I missed a lot by listening to the abridged version. For example, I never really "got into" the characters. The book consists of 2 tapes and its over before you know it. If you can afford the investment in the complete set of tapes, it is probably worth it.

The read, Judy Kaye, is easy to understand and portrays the characters much more vivadly than I could in my head!

Summary: Better than A
Review: The second in Sue Grafton's alphabet series really helps the series pick up speed. This one takes Kinsey from California to Boca Raton Florida and back.

Summary: Fairly Gripping
Review: The second work of Grafton's is quite captivating. The details of every scene and character are described with great accuracy. I feel right in the room with the characters. Grafton could tie the characters together a little better and the ending has a minor fault as an accidental shot should not allow good to prevail over evil. None the less each chapter and most of the pages add to the story as there are few boring moments. It makes the grade.

Summary: Judy Kaye - The Real Kinsey
Review: The whole series of ABC mysteries are without a doubt suspensful, humorous and a great read. There are enough great reviews on this site to give anyone considering them a great idea of what to expect.
I would like to comment on the audio tapes brilliantly narrated by Judy Kaye. I had already read a few books in the series and had enjoyed them very much when idea of trying the audio cassettes occurred to me. Spending two hours per day in the car going to and from work, I found myself stressed out and tired of the news or music on the radio. Since listening to these audio tapes on my commute, I find myself more relaxed, less apt to speed, and surprisingly able to concentrate very well on my driving while listening. What a cure for road rage! Granted, it's not an idea for everyone.
Now these aren't the first audio books I have tried, but they are the first that I have been really happy with the narration. Judy Kaye does such a great job, I have a hard time believing that she isn't really Kinsey Millhone - or worse yet - that Kinsey doesn't really exist. Judy's vocal quality and inflections are perfect for the character and while she also does very well on the voices of other characters, she doesn't try to overdo them either. When Kinsey is afraid, tired, ecstatic, - whatever the feelings - Judy's voice lets you know before the words even have a chance to sink in.
You only have to compare to some of the other books on tape out there to truly understand the difference. For example try Amanda Quick narrated by Stephanie Beecham, or Sandra Brown, narrated by Morgan Fairchild to compare. And when you stop laughing at how awful those are, give Judy Kaye's narrations of Sue Grafton's brilliant series a chance.

Summary: Maybe Kinsey is like a mold. She slowly grows on you.
Review: This book had it's moments yet they were few and far between. I enjoyed getting to know Kinsey better (as most reader's will) but I found that the novel lacked interesting characters for Kinsey to hang out with. It is not a waste of time, but you won't go recommending it to your local clergyman.

Review: This books lost a bit of staying power. I was lookinkg for more dumb luck to get me by.

Summary: Excellent
Review: This is a well-paced and somewhat frightening mystery. Although it doesn't ponder any deeper questions, it is excellent light reading

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Fabulous characterization and plot!
Review: This is one of Sue Grafton's best novels! I have read many of these mysteries and this one has the best pacing yet. Her introduction of characters, events and places was clear and full of suspense. This novel does not insult the reader by giving away too much too soon. The novel ends with an excellent twist of events, but seems to hurry through the ending. This novel is an excellent read that only took me one snowy day to finish. Happy reading!
