Summary: Another Mary Higgins Clark Smash
Review: If you love Mary Higgins Clark's writing you will not be disappointed with the twist and turns of this book.

Summary: Before I Say Good-Bye
Review: This is the third book that I've read by Mary Higgins Clark. At first it was confusing because she involves so many characters in her plot, but after the first 100 pages or so it's a good read. She adds a balanced combination of mystery and suspense, which keeps you reading. The one flaw I've seen in all of her books that I read is that she never develops new characters. She uses the same personalities in her writing just with a different plot. I find it annoying to have the same information constantly repeated.

Summary: Disappointing
Review: Though I am usually one to buy Ms. Higgins Clark's books hot off the press, I wish I had left this one on the shelf. I'm halfway through and have decided not to finish - it's just too boring with repetitive information (how many times do we have to hear what a great guy Jimmy was or Nell's hesitation to consult a psychic, etc). Where Ms. Higgins Clark usually has me turning pages as quickly as I can, this book leaves me struggling to stay awake. Let's hope her next book is more in line with previous ones, especially her early novels.

Summary: Definitely a welcome return
Review: Having not read any books by Ms. Higgins Clark in a long while, I was curious to learn whether she could still tell a good story. To my delight, she can.

"Before I Say Goodbye" is a multi-layer thriller based on the feelings of deja-vu and other psychic phenomena. Ever since she was young, Nell MacDermott could sense when tragedy strikes: when she was 12, and her parents died in a plane crash, she sensed it that same instant: 'She felt disoriented...she was too tired...."Swim, Nell, you can make it!". It was her mother's voice, imploring her to get moving....

This, and other instances, make her certain that she has ESP. However, the no-nonsense attitude of her grandfather, Cornelius MacDermott, convinces her to hide it. However, her aunt Gert won't let her dismiss it entirely.

Later, as a successful adult, she has a husband, Adam, and a job that she (mostly) enjoys. However, when he suddenly disappears, she must discover why.

The story is tightly written, though you have to get used to the constant shift in time periods (from her early childhood to adult years, and vice versa). This is not a book for the impatient readers, either. At 300+ pages, it takes time to get moving.

I read this book in two days, which was cool. It covers politics, the value of family, following your passions and obsession very well. I certainly recommend picking up this book as a worthy read for those slow-winding days.

Summary: A clear disappointment for Higgins Clark fans
Review: Mary Higgins Clark's lastest novel is a clear disappointment for her fans and suspense fans in general. Her characters are too predicatble and the average mystery enthusiast has the whole thing figured out about half-way through. My biggest disappointment is the overall shoddy work she does on the story line. There is so little intriguing detail and almost no flesh to the main lines of the plot. This book is not even in the same league as some of her great earlier ones like "loves music, loves to dance" or "let me call you sweetheart". While it is OK that she always seems to depict the stereotypical all-American Barbie or Cinderalla from-rags-to-riches heroine, she puts less and less effort in making the charcters believable.

Summary: Before I Say Goodbye
Review: I always enjoy books by Mary Higgins Clark. This one is no different. The only thing I do find confusing about some of her books, including this one, is that there are too many characters, and I always have to keep turning back pages, sometimes going into past chapters, to see who's who.

Summary: A good read with some basic problems
Review: I have one major dislike with mystery stories. The author devises a good plot but then falls short in his or her story telling abillity. MHC is better than most at building characters and telling a story, but she fell into the trap of too many characters all of which had a motive and were suspect. I felt, rightly or wrongly, that she wrote her story then picked who she wanted for the guilty person and made the conclusion fit the rest of the story. The telling of the story should be the prime reason for writing, and the mystery should be secondary. Very few mystery writers understand that in my opinion. MHC is one of the better mystery writers who attempts to mix both.

Summary: cured
Review: Ms Clark finally cured me of buying her books hot off the press and in hard cover. This book has no character development, no suspence and is not in keeping with all previous work by the author. By the middle of the book, I could not have cared less as to 'whodoneit' or even why. I will continue to by books by MHC in hopes that she will return to her original style, but I will wait for paperback editions in the future. Sorry, this is not what I expected from my previously favourite writer.

Summary: Before I Say Good-By (Unabridged)
Review: This is not one of her better books. I have the feeling she has now gone into production, rather than being creative and fresh.

Entertaining, but not a great mystry.

Summary: Great Book
Review: Once again Mary has kept me hooked on a book until I finished reading it. Although there were many suspicious characters, I did not think that person could have been the killer. Once again, Mary has done a marevelous job.
