Rating: Summary: Oops! She did it again! Review: I always look forward to a new book by Ms. Clark. Her main characters are always someone special. Nell is another you can't help but love! Setting her books in Manhattan always appeals to me. This book had a strange twist to it, however. Well, I won't spoil the surprise if you don't know. I couldn't put it down, again!
Rating: Summary: A Not So Thrilling Thriller Review: I have read all of Mary Higgins Clark's books, but this seemed almost slowmoving-not as suspenseful as the others. The plot seemed rather confusing to me. The doctor, Dan Minor, was one of the most interesting characters. I hope the next book follows her usual standards.
Rating: Summary: Okay, I guess. Review: Not her best. I so enjoy this author but this book fell a bit short. The Characters seem to be all over the place. And the underlying suspense seemed to fail with all the attention on the widow. I thought the subplots did not get pulled back to the main story.
Rating: Summary: Another great one from MARY HIGGINS CLARK! Review: Yes she's done it again. All her books have kinda the same form. one heroine living in new york in her 30's and leads an almost perfect life, but suddenly one day finds herself all wrapped up in a murder case. but none of her books go further than that in being similar. all her books have new unique thrilling and exciting elements. if you've read one of her books you're hooked. they are all exciting and i have not yet been disappointed. i can recommend all her books!
Rating: Summary: Fast Read, but loose plot Review: The further you get into the book the better it flows. You have trouble at first figuring out what she is trying to say in this book. She seems to go off on many tangents. It is not toward the last 1/2 of the book your figure out that Nell, the center character of the book, has to decide if she is going to accept psychic help to determine what happen to her husband. (Which happaens in the middle of the book). This would have been an extremmely written novel or short story if edited even more....
Rating: Summary: avid mystery reader Review: I enjoyed this book enormously and was unable put it down. I am not one to stay at home, but this book seemed to hypnotize me and I finished it in a day. I have read almost all of Mary Higgin's Clark books and find that she has a rare and unique talent for writing. Every new book she writes is better than the last.
Rating: Summary: Pretty good mystery-plot, characterization needs work. Review: I am aware that Mary Higgins Clark is a sought after mystery writer. However, this was the first time I picked up one of her books. This is a fast read, especially towards the end. The story is basically about politics, greed and dishonesty in the construction industry, with a little supernatural thrown in. Like another reviewer said, the short chapters that went back and forth between characters was slightly confusing, and the writing seemed sloppy and loose at the beginning. However, about half way through the book the writing and the plot got more concise and compact. It seems sometimes that few mystery writers especially in the states are incapable of writing a good plot and providing good characterization at the same time. Higgins is obviously one writer who provides an excellent plot. However, the people in the book did not seem three dimensional to me, and I would get to a chapter in the middle of the book and forget who the character was that the chapter was about (and I have a good memory). The book is a fun read, just disappointing in the characterizations. Karen Sadler, University of Pittsburgh
Rating: Summary: The Mary Higgins Clark Formula Review: I think this is Ms Clarke's 22 book, and I must admit that it shows somewhat. I found this one lacking a great deal in background information, and this is important if an author wants the reader to get into their hero or heroine's life. That doesn't happen with this book, and we don't have any of Nell's earlier life, or even her earlier married life with her husband, so we the reader cannot form our opinions about Nell or Adam for that matter. The action is fast-paced and the premise behind the story is a good one, but it's too sketchy for me.
Rating: Summary: Good but not the Best Review: I really enjoy reading books by, "The Queen of Suspense", Mary Higgins Clark. Her nouvels are full of mystery and suspense that gives you chills up your spine. And the way she uses words to catch your attention and spark your imagination. The book, Before I Say Goodbye, was very suspenseful but I didn't find the mystery nearly as deep as some of her others. I found some of the text to have errors as far as her ordering of the plot, and so the book was somewhat hard to follow due to that. The book was mainly about a young woman, Nell, who, when young, lost her parents to a tragic plane crash and ended up living with her grandfather. Her grandfather was highly into politics which was the main reason why Nell, wanted to be part of the poitical world. Nell's husband died during a tragic boat eplosion leaving nasty evidence of her husbands life, which Nell hadn't known. Will Nell's help from her psychic friends help her to solve the mystery of her husband's tragic death or will Nell go on living her life never really knowing what happened and why.
Rating: Summary: Enticing! Review: Mary Higgins Clark's latest mystery/thriller "Before I Say Goodbye" is another exciting and suspenseful book that kept me wondering until the very end. Nell McDermott is a lonely young woman with a difficult past. Her husband is mysteriously killed accidentally in a boating explosion right after they had a big fight concerning Nell running for a congressional office once held by her Grandfather. Consumed with guilt and regret, Nell taps in to psychic powers and strength she didn't know she had and contacts friends who seem to be trying to help her. She realizes there it may not have been an accident but a murder. But who is the murderer and who was the targeted victim? The characters are well written and believable.
