Rating: Summary: Not my favorite MHC, but still darn good... Review: I've read so many Mary Higgins Clark books, that occasionally you can start to figure out the 'culprit' in her books. Not this time. I didn't have a clue. I was hoping that the psychic element would play more of a part in the overall story, but it was relatively a minor part. Even though this wasn't my favorite Mary Higgins Clark book, if you're a fan of hers, you'll enjoy it!
Rating: Summary: An exciting 'Page-Turner'! Review: I thoroughly enjoyed Mary Higgins Clark's latest thriller "Before I Say Goodbye" -- An Exciting and suspenseful 'page-turner' that kept me guessing 'who-done-it' til the very end.Nell McDermott is a distraught young woman whose husband Adam is killed along with 4 others in a boat explosion. Nell is doubly upset because she and Adam had a big fight before he left for the boat trip over her decision to run for a Congressional seat once held by her grandfather. It soon becomes apparent that the explosion was no accident but a planned murder. As Nell begins to discover that her husband was involved in illegal real estate deals and bid-rigging the story becomes increasingly intriguing and suspenseful. Many interesting and well-defined supporting characters add to the mystery and Mary Higgins Clark, in her own wonderful stye, has weaved them all into another winner!
Rating: Summary: Ms. Clark Delivers Again Review: Politically ambitious columnist Nell McDermott's world is shattered when her husband, Adam Cauliff, is killed along with four other people in a boat explosion. The slightly psychic Nell lost her parents at a young age, but took comfort in the fact that they appeared to her moments after their deaths to say goodbye, as did her grandmother before them. Thus, Nell is devastated that she had no similar visitation from Adam and is consumed with guilt that they had quarreled the last time she saw him.As the police investigate the boat explosion and it becomes clear that it was no accident, Nell begins to learn bit by bit that Adam may have been involved in bid-rigging and illegal real estate deals. When the widow of another victim comes to Nell with the news that she has discovered $50,000 in cash hidden in her basement, the two women know that something sinister has happened. The question is, what, and who? Nell's determination to find the answers includes visits to a psychic and to the infirm mother of the female boating victim, Winifred. When a key to a safe deposit box turns up among Winifred's effects and Nell discovers its mate in Adam's jacket pocket, there is no turning back, particularly when a child who witnessed the explosion comes forward to say he saw someone dive from the boat before it exploded. Who planted the bomb? Who paid off Jimmy Ryan, and why? Did someone survive the explosion and, if so, who and where is that person? Nell has no qualms about placing herself in danger's path to find out the truth, even if it means learning that she didn't know Adam as well as she thought she had. Assistance and comfort arrive in the person of Dr. Dan Minor, whose long-lost mother, it seems, may have been another homicide victim directly linked to the boating deaths. The ending is vintage Mary Higgins Clark! My only complaint, and this is no biggie, is that 32-year-old Nell tends, in many respects, to speak and behave like a woman twice her age. Could be I'm just jaded. In any event, this is a classic MHC yarn and well worth spending an evening with.
Rating: Summary: Skip this one! Review: When Adam Cauliff's boat is blown to bits, his wife, Nell is distraught for more than one reason. The couple had a whopper of a fight over her decision to run for Congressional office at the insistance of her grandfather, Mac, who is retiring. As Nell sorts thru her feelings of guilt, her great aunt Gert, who like Nell has some pyschic ability, urges her to see a medium. Nell agrees, hoping to put the guilt at peace as she attempts to communicate with Adam. As the investigation continues, it is revealed that the accident was no accident. As Nell continues to search for the truth about her husband's death, she follows instructions from Adam thru the medium. What she doesn't realize is the she is being watched as well, and when things do not go as planned by the killer, she may find herself the next victim. OK, like all of Mary Higgins Clark's books, there is of course the romantic suspense. Hmm, I thought, the husband has been blown to bits, where is the romantic lead? In steps a handy romantic lead, so tried and true I can't even remember his name. Even MHC acknowledgeas that the relationship is too soon by having his character comment, "Is a week after the funeral too soon to ask her out for dinner?" Clark goes on and on about how distraught this woman is and how devasted she is about her husband's death. Now, if she is so griefstricken, why does she get involved with this guy? Granted, he's much nicer than her poor departed husband. This latest novel by Clark is the same old same old. I finished it in 1 hour. I grew bored with the characters.
Rating: Summary: Mary Higgins Clark at the Top of Her Form Review: Mary Higgins Clark has never been better than in this totally suspenseful tale of a young woman whose husband is killed in a boating accident after they quarrel. Haunted by his death, she seeks help from a famous psychic and, in a spell-binding climax, finds closure to the end of her marriage. The heroine, Nell MacDermott, is surrounded by a cast of well-defined supporting characters. She is delightful as is her curmudgeon of a grandfather, her spinster aunt, a handsome pediatric surgeon and many others. I was literally on the edge of my seat and completely terrified by the ending. It's a definite can't-put-down book, so start it when you have several free hours ahead.
Rating: Summary: The Best One Yet! Review: This is Mary Higgins Clark at her best. This book had all of the ingredients for a beginning-to-end read! My only regret is that the story wasn't longer. I hated for it to end! Her previous books had become to light-weight for my "taste" in mysteries, however, this one met and exceeded my expectations. You will enjoy it from beginning to end. How will the next book be any better?
Rating: Summary: Not just another Mary Higgins Clark Review: Although I always look forward to new books by my favorite authors, sometimes after reading them I say to myself "that was just like the last book". That was not the case with this book! I was at my local bookstore the day it was released and finished before I went to sleep that night. I absolutely could not put it down, and was so disappointed to know I had finished it. This is one of those books that is so good you hate for it to end. I highly recommend it, but must warn you to clear your schedule, you will not want to stop reading until you reach the end!
Rating: Summary: Terrific! Review: I read this book in one day and loved it! As usual, MHC keeps the reader guessing as to who is the culprit and it is always the one you least suspect. Lots of good plot twists in this story.
Rating: Summary: Great book! Review: This is one of Mary Higgins Clark's best books. The plot isvery complex but intriguing, the climaxes are surprising, and thestory is very exciting. I started listening to it the other day and Iwas not able to stop; it was a real "page turner" so to speak. I do not want to give too much away but it is a great book! A must read! END
Rating: Summary: SUSPENSEFUL Review: Mary Higgins Clark has written another page-turning suspense novel. After 25 years of writing it's great to see her still turning out great plots. Nell MacDermott is the wife of architect Adam Cauliff. After an argument between Nell and her husband (about her decision to try and win the congressional seat held by her granfather), Nell tells Adam NOT to come home, later that evening Adam's yacht blows up in New York Harbor with himself and several passengers aboard. Devastated about the tragedy, Nell is urged by her Aunt (Gert is fascinated by psychics) to see Bonnie Wilson, a medium whose powers are phenomenal. The visit ends with Adam's warning to be aware of a certain person ( I will not give away too much ). As Nell investigates what happened she finds out that the explosion was not an accident and someone may have survived. Clark bulds the suspense by exposing the secrets of her characters and giving everyone a reason to be a bad guy! The pages turn fast to get to the EXCELLENT, SHOCKING ending.
