Summary: A VERY GOOD READ!!!!!
Review: Another winner from Karen Robards. If you are like me you can't wait for one of her books to come out. This one is GREAT.

Maddie Fitzgerald has had a hard life, but now things are looking up. She is in New Orleans to make a presentation that could take her fledgling advertizing agency into the big time. That night in her hotel room someone tries to kill her. Not only that, but he does kill another Madaline Fitzgerald in the same hotel. Which one did he mean to kill?

Sam McCade has been on this killer's trail for a month, the killer likes to tease him with hints before the kill. When Sam learns another Madaline has been attacked, but managed to escape he thinks he has his first break.

Maddie doesn't know if the hit was to be on her or not. But the FBI has already left her out to dry once, and she sure doesn't need them on her case again. IT has taken her 7 years to rebuild her life.

If it is the mob, she thinks she can hold some evidence over them and make them call off the hit. All the time she has Sam and his crew on her tail. Which is lucky because they save her life again and move in to protect her. She is not willing to tell them anything about her knowledge of the mob. She must protect herself.

When the killer strikes again she knows she will never be safe. She begins to think someone else is after her. But who? The attraction between her and Sam is potent. Eventually they confess to falling in love.

But the killer is not just after Maddie, somehow he seems to be connected to Sam, too.

The excitement never lets up. This is a fast paced story and so good you don't want it to end. There is a touch of humor, and you will feel alot of compassion for Maddie. The secondary characters are great, the ending surprising and exciting. Don't start to read it late at night, you may not get any sleep.

Summary: Exciting Throughout!
Review: I am such a Karen Robards fan and have been for quite awhile now. I think Ms. Robards books are outstanding. Her stories are the best. The characters are real and the plots always leave the reader wanting to read more. If you haven't had a chance to try one of Ms. Robards books, "Bait," is an excellent book to start with. You will not be disappointed! (Highly Recommeded!)

Summary: Using a dog was not a good idea.
Review: I listened to this while travelling instead of reading it.
I mentally edited the clumsy wording. I forgave the attampts to keep the heroine's mob connections a mystery until it became intrusive to the main story.
I was willing to overlook the standard romance details - the manly chest, the secret thrill to be held close against "his" warmth.
But the use of an ill mannered dog as comic relief fell flat when the "heroine" chose to feed it peanut M&Ms to keep it quiet. Both peanuts and chocolate are extremely toxic to dogs. When she stopped to buy something for the dog to eat, she didn't bother with even a hamburger but went straight to the french fries. At this point I reversed the tape and returned it.
I've enjoyed some of Karon Robard's books in the past. But this one was more on the lines of a talented amateur instead of someone with her amount of experience.

Summary: Enjoyable read!!
Review: It's been a long time since I read a book by Karen Robards and I'm glad I bought this book. I really enjoyed it, it's definitely a keeper.

Summary: Nothing Attracts a Shark Better than Live Bait!
Review: Maddie Fitzgerald goes to the Big Easy on business, but the business she gets in New Orleans isnÕt what she bargained for. Someone breaks into her hotel room and tries to kill her, but she fends him off. The next day tough talking, good looking, FBI agent Sam McCabe tells Maddie that sheÕs apparently a dead ringer for an FBI informant who just happens to share her name and that a very successful hit man is after her, one who has recently left two victims with a bullet in the head.

Later, after Maddie has finished her business and gone back to New Orleans, sheÕs attacked again, and again McCabe comes to question her. He tells her that sheÕs not safe, that she never will be, not until the killerÕs caught, but she can help. She can be the bait, but not to worry, the FBI guys will be on the job. SheÕs not down with this plan, especially because she has a secret in her past she doesnÕt want Sam or the FBI to know about, but she agrees. Besides, heÕs just so good looking and yes they do fall into each others arms and into bed, but to find out more youÕre going to have to read this teriffic book. You wonÕt be disappointed. Ms. Robards knows suspence, knows romance too, and she certainly knows how to thrill.

Summary: Taut suspense & steamy romance
Review: Maddie Fitzgerald is about to land a 10-million-dollar dog food account for her fledgling St. Louis ad agency--if she can impress the support hose off one old lady with her presentation. Unfortunately, the night before the presentation, someone breaks into Maddie's hotel room and she becomes the target of a botched hit that puts her squarely in the middle of a string of victims--victims of a serial killer.

On the case is FBI Special Agent Sam McCabe, whom the killer has been leading on a merry chase across the country, always a step behind, a few minutes too late to save a life. But Maddie survived, and she is his key. He knows the killer will be back to finish the job. His priority is to keep Maddie safe--and use her to catch the perp, in that order.

But there's something Sam doesn't know about Maddie's past, a terrible secret she has kept from everyone. All she wants is for the FBI agents to leave her alone. She can take care of herself. But Sam becomes her shadow. And as the killer circles closer, Maddie finds herself grateful rather than resentful for his presence even as the truth threatens to take away everything she has worked so hard for--including her own life.

Bait is the perfect blend of taut suspense and steamy romance, interspersed with moments of comic relief provided by a spoiled Pekingese chosen to be an advertising logo. Robards reveals just enough information to keep me turning pages and trying to guess Maddie's secrets. Lots of surprises, enough chase scenes and creepy, stalking snipers to keep any action junkie happy. This is my favorite of the half-dozen or so Robards books I've read.

Summary: A Different Twist
Review: Robarbs' Bait is definitely breathtaking. With each page, you become more anxious to find out who is the killer. This mystery/romance is a good thriller, especially on a rainey evening or plane ride. Also, read LUST OF THE FLESH by Beverly Rolyat. A compelling, riveting, eye-opening, fast-paced pageturner. Corrupted district attorney, Nick Allapapalous, finds himself caught up in a web of deceit, destruction, betrayal, lies, lust, murder, mystery, suspense, romance, and sex galore. Is he really the biological father of his ex-wife's promiscuous teenage daughter's infant son? Or has he been set up? Did he intentionally botch up the bank robbery that he masterminded for his best friend to be caught? This is an enlightening read through and through. Enjoy the read! Enjoy the ride!

Summary: Enjoyable
Review: Sometimes the plot devices in this novel require a suspension of disbelief, but by and large, this book is highly entertaining. The main characters are well drawn and fun to read about, and the secondary characters are just as real. Anytime a book can make me laugh out loud, the writer has done her job well, and the suspense holds until the very end.

Highly recommended.

Summary: Never fails to deliver
Review: The plot is basically the same as most other romantic suspense books. Simply put - girl becomes a target by a serial killer...boy rescues her...they fall in love somewhere in the middle. However, there were several twists and tie-ins that really made this one a joy to read. I also liked the fact that Maddie had a likable personality and Sam was first rate. The spark was there and I liked them both...that's what counts in the romance department for me. The mystery/suspense part moved at a nice pace (not too slow, not too fast). Nothing that had me biting my nails, but no one really does that better than Kay Hooper - though to be fair, they're very different. I'm rambling...sorry.

Anyway, the book was enjoyable and left me feeling satisfied.

Summary: action-packed police procedural romance
Review: The serial killer informs FBI Agent Sam McCabe that Madeline is next. Creative Partners owner Maddie Fitzgerald hopes to win the multimillion-dollar advertising of Bechler's Pet Chow. That night Maddie awakens because she knows someone is in her hotel room. Panicked she stabs the intruder with a pencil and flees.

The next morning, Sam learns the serial killer murdered Madeline Fitzgerald, but that another Maddie was in the hotel and survived an assault. Sam tries to interview Maddie but she is hostile towards the Fed. Maddie wins the contract and returns to St. Louis where she calls a mob number to warn them if they kill her, evidence from her father's work will surface.

Sam realizes the killer knows he made a mistake and will try to murder Maddie soon. When someone shoots her, he stays at her place to keep her safe. Unable to resist, they kiss. Both love and hate the emotions they feel, but soon make love. While still in each other's arms, the killer calls so Sam can hear him murder Carol, which reminds them that he has a killer to catch and she has a past that would destroy an FBI Agent's career.

Fans of police procedural romances will enjoy the action-packed thriller that does not slow down until the final confrontation ties up all loose ends. The attraction between the lead couple is handled nicely except for making love with killers chasing them. Though the killer's need to flaunt Sam seems out of character since he is atypical as he "cleansing" his past, readers will enjoy this solid suspense story.
