Summary: This book should be required reading for all students!
Review: Never has a book touched me as much as Mr. McCourt's Angela's Ashes. Any reader will admire this man who, when faced with adversity one could only imagine, never felt sorry for himself. His thirst for knowledge and longing to succeed seems to be the driving force that got him through to where he is today. This is one of the few books I will read again and again, and give to my children to read. It is a lesson everyone should learn, but not have to live through. Mr. McCourt, through it all, has become the epitome of class and character.

Summary: Wonderful book
Review: This was the last book my mother read before she passed away last year, and she had urged me to read it also. It took me a full year to pick it up, and it is one of the most heartwarming, tearjerking and humorous books I have ever read. I am glad my mother's last book was such a joy to read - Thank you Frank McCourt.

Summary: One of the Best Books I Ever Read!
Review: I have been recommending this book to all of my friends! It is so moving. I enjoyed every page and was sorry when it ended. I couldn't put it down.

Summary: gripping and emotional - can't put it down
Review: Tis been the best read I had all year. Had some sad moments that tear ye heart out and make you cry "if ye bladder is too close to yer eye's"; then some that make you shake wit laughter.

It is truely an excellent book. Written by a man who has expierienced life. He tells us about his misfortunes and tragedy in way that although sad, he finds a humorous way of expressing himself. He doesn't make you feel pity for him. He actually made me feel guilty for laughing. I guess that's why he is who he is today. For if we do not laugh at ourselves, we would just cry and get nowhere. READ IT!

Summary: at once touching and humorous
Review: My mother sent me the book and at first glance, I thought "Oh no, not another inspirational book!". But as I wasn't reading a book at that time I thought I might as well see what it's about. Once I started, however, I couldn't put the book down and sad as it was I didn't want it to end either.

Summary: Brilliant, stunning, haunting....
Review: This book, certainly one for the ages, tenderly paints an image of life few who visit this space will ever know. Yet the emotions Mr. McCourt inspires are universal in their appeal. I can't remember a book that touched me like Angela's Ashes. I could not leave these comments without mentioning the stunning and compelling style with which the story is presented. Absolutely brilliant. 'Tis.

Summary: Poignant
Review: This was one of the most gripping stories. He brought all of his characters to life. It was terrific. After reading the book, I desparately wanted to meet his wonderful mother to see her strength. She should be canonized.

Summary: Humor Makes Frank Survive, I Guess.
Review: It is so funny when I get to read page 305 : Little Frank was dreaming ".... about virgin martyres in bathing suits in the News of World pelting Chinese writers with sheeps' bladders and I wake up in a state of excitement with something hot and sticky pumping out of me oh God my male organ of copulation sticking out a mile...". I did look up all strange words in the dictionary before I laugh since English is not my mother tongue, and even worse an Irish English.

Frank McCourt mentions a Chinese writer-Lin Yutang answered his question truely where the babies come from, not from the seventh stair, but something about Turgid. I wonder in which of Lin's book of essays is about love and the Turgid body..

Lin Yu Tang happens to be another humorous writer with two best sellers " My Country and My People "(1935 reprinted 7 editions in 4 months )," The Importance of Living " (1937, 52 weeks on the list).

Hey, I enjoy reading this book and prepare to read it the second time to make sure I did not miss any interesting parts.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Funny, yet tragic
Review: An rare and wonderful story. Mr. McCourt deserves all the acclaim he has received, and more for being able to tell such a sad tale and still evoke the humor in it.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A MUST READ BOOK!
Review: Frank McCourt really did a great job! I first read this book out of boredom...but I soon find myself engrossed, locked in the world of "Angela's Ashes", and stuck to the book until to the end. I was laughing and crying all the way! It's been a long time since I read a story that made a dramatic impact on me...and this is one of them! I recommend this as a must read book! Just to show how much I love this book... I bought 4 copies to share it with my close friends, and they LOVE it! When is the sequel, Frank?
