Summary: Margolin redefines scarey........again!!!!
Review: Phillip Margolin has again mastered the art of terror in this totally unpredictable novel. He uses startingly discoveries to totally knock the reader off balance as he takes you on the trail of a serial killer, with obviously, deadly results. A young woman, Amanda Jaffe, returns home to join her father in his successful law practice, where she is distracted by a young man, Tony Fiori, she had known and been romantically interested in, while in school. When murders past and present run a collsion course with each other and her life, the action takes off, leaving her and the reader breathless and wondering at the possibilities that they pose. Did the first Dr. Vincent Cardoni get away with murder merely on a technicality? Was he framed? Was his soon to be ex-wife, Dr. Justine Castle a player in this picture? Could it have been someone else? Or did the one of the doctors carefully plan it to look like an outside frame-up? Could it be just a copycat murder? The possibilities seem endless and just when you are sure, Margolin works his magic and you begin to doubt what a chapter or even a page ago seemed logical. After all, does logic even fit into a serial killers modus operandi???? This was another great novel by Margolin!!!

Review: I found this book enjoyable and entertaining but I also found it to be pretty predictable. That was disappointing. I've read all of Phillip Margolin books and for the most part found them to be excellent reads.

Summary: Good for reading in the smallest room in the house
Review: I can't imagine what books previous reviewers are reading to consider any of the cheesy cardboard characters in this tome as more than 1 micrometer thick. Lassie Go Home? The real murderer was unmistakably telegraphed on page 127, and even the plot machinations designed to lead us away from this obvious revelation were embarrassingly, pellucidly thin. I'm always a fan of gristle and gore, and there was that aplenty, but with no great sense of where its maniacal power derived from. "I was an abused child, and now I'm a mega-, multiple-serial killer. Woe is me." Puh-leez. On the one hand, I finished this in 5 hours flat, and it was something of a page turner. So, if you're working on flogging your melanocytes on the beach, maybe it's worth a read to keep you awake. If, on the other hand, you're serious about your crime novels and want to linger over some delicious prose and mind-boggling characterizations, you might want to try spending some quality time with anything by Elizabeth George or the fabulous new book from Robert Wilson, A Small Death in Portugal. Like so many things in life, it's all a matter of priorities!
