Rating: Summary: A book that brings the real meaning of Christmas to life. Review: A good friend loaned me this book. I had no idea what I was in for!! I could not put this book down it truely spoke to me.
Today people never stop to "smell the roses" anymore, this book will MAKE YOU stop!!! I loved the characters and the simple lives they led. They were truely believable ones.
This book made me realize how special every moment is with my family. Life is too short not to love the people around you EVERY day. I think everyone should read this wonderful and magical book. I have since bought it for several people in hopes that they will read what I read,,,A Beautiful Book about the real meaning of Christmas.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Wonderful Review: Evans' "Christmas Box" is the only book I have ever read that I think EVERYONE, no matter how old they are or what reading level they're on, could read and say it is one of the best stories ever written
Rating: Summary: For the happiness and sadness, I will forever grateful be. Review: I lost a child myself. A close friend suggested that I read
this book. I never tried to put into words the pain I felt
nor the happiness I shared with a life that was taken so
abrubtly from mine.
There were lessons to be taught and for a short time, I was the teacher.
I have taken solace in knowing that someone has been able to express the feelings that I have kept inside me for so long. I want to personally thank Mr. Evans.
Rating: Summary: A parent's story of unconditional, total love. Review: A book I truly felt with my soul as well as my heart. Mr. Evans keeps the story flowing and beautiful with the simplicity of the characters and their lives
Rating: Summary: This book is great! Review: I think that the love in thios story is overwhelming. It is the best book I have ever read.. I have waited since last year for Timepiece, and it was well worth the wait. Mr. Evans, PLEASE HURRY AND WRITE YOUR THIRD BOOK!! YOU ARE A GREAT AUHOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Best Christmas present I have ever given to myself. Review: I have two children of my own, ages 9 and 3. I understand how we sometimes get so busy
and forget to watch our kids grow up. I found myself in tears as I finished this book.
I felt Mary's pain as well as Richard's and am very thankful I found this book when my
children were 9 and 3 instead of 29 and 23. Thank you Mr. Evans for deciding to share
this story with the world. Maybe it will make better parents of some of us. At least
the ones who are trying desperately to do a good job to begin with.
Again thank you. Sincerely, Terrie Barnes
Rating: Summary: It is the feeling in words about the loss of your own child. Review: I awoke one Sunday morning to our music radio station
playing it's usual Sunday morning anything but music. What
caught my attention was the author of a book talking about
his experience growing up in a family who had lost a sibling.
This man was Richard Paul Evans. As my wife and I listened
to his words, we knew this was a must read for our family.
The next day, my wife brought home a copy which I literally
could not put down. The parallelisms to our own experience
was remarkable. Most of all, his story communicated that
incapturable dispair one feels when your child is gone too
soon.
Rating: Summary: Read this story to your children! Review: Thirty minutes ago, I finished reading this to my children (all in one sitting!) My four-yr-old fell asleep, but the other two kids kept telling me "Just one more chapter!" During the last chapter or two, we all started crying and couldn't stop. At times, I could barely read the words through my sobbing. It is such a POWERFUL story of love. Even though young children may get bored with the first few chapters, keep reading with them. By the end of the fourth chapter, they will be begging you not to stop reading. They have asked me to buy them each a book of their own. I plan to do so, so that they may share this beautiful story someday with their own children. I'm sure that my family now has a new Christmas tradition: reading aloud "The Christmas Box."
Rating: Summary: Very touching ! Review: This is a very touching book, really enjoyed it.
I would have to say that this is one of my favorites along with POETRY THAT HOLDS, STORIES UNTOLD, another great book !
Rating: Summary: A spiritual tale that avoids preaching Review: "Heartwarming classics" are not my usual reading material, but I'd heard so much about this book (originally self-published) that curiosity prompted me to pick it up. The title story deserves all the praise it's received. The writing style has an old-fashioned cadence that's just right for the material, and the inspirational elements come naturally. This is a spiritual tale that avoids preaching, and steers clear of denominations while retaining its Christmas (not generic holiday) theme.
The companion tales, TIMEPIECE and THE LETTER, are longer and less satisfying. I came away from these wishing I'd stopped with THE CHRISTMAS BOX, and left the mystery behind it alone. Sometimes less is more - but another reader might well be delighted by "the rest of the story" of MaryAnne and her family.
