Rating: Summary: "Hart to Hart" in Paperback But Better Review: What fun! Evanovich's wit with characters, dialogue, and circumstances is evident throughout. The characters are edgy but believable and lots of fun. While the back jacket promise of "steamy sex" isn't fulfilled, the rest is true. It was a quick, fun, LOL book. Evanovich and Hughes are a great team. I'm looking forward to "Full Speed" and hoped to pre-order with "To The Nines" but will have to be patient.
Rating: Summary: Fun Fun Fun Review: Full Tilt is another fun book by Janet Evanovich. If you read Full House this brings back Max and Deedee, but 20 years later. Frankie, Deedee's husband, is running for mayor and begins a search of missing tax dollars. His brother-in-law, the infamous Max Holt, comes to town to help him out. Of course Max meets Jamie Swift and is instantly attracted. The story goes from there and it is a fun read...but no steamy sex like they claim on the back cover! I couldn't put the book down and had to find out who was responsible for the attempted murders and missing tax dollars. Evanovich scores again with this murder mystery hijinx story. You can always count on her stories to be fun and entertaining and this one is.
Rating: Summary: I Can't Give it Less Than One Star? Review: I'm actually amazed by the number of people who've given this book 4 or 5 stars. I can only assume that if you did, you didn't read the book, or you're trying to get on Janet Evanovich's good side, because this book was one of the worst I've ever read. Sad, because it should have been really cool. The idea of a "Knight Rider"-ish smart car was a good one. But, there's one problem. A cool car like that is only good IF YOU USE IT IN AN EMERGENCY!! Without giving too much away, the main characters, Max and Jamie, (two of the most boring characters to grace the pages of a novel) while investigating a crime find themselves stuck out in the middle of nowhere. Ok, first of all...this guy's a super-genius millionaire businessman and the woman owns a newspaper but neither one of them has a CELL PHONE!!?? Then, this guy owns the worlds coolest talking car and he doesn't think to tell it, "Hey, if we're not back in a couple of hours, call someone"??? Hello!? What the hell is the car there for?? Am I the only one that can see how lame that is? Now, the saving grace for all of this would have been if the super genius had planned the whole thing so that he could get a little sex. At least that would have explained the lack of a cell phone or the lack of brains enough to have a back up plan. But, no...and as a matter of fact, when he DID try something with the woman, she starts talking about commitment! I suspect that the lack of sex was so that the sexual tension could build up over time and throughout a series of books. One problem though: There has to BE sexual tension first! There was none between these two! One night of groping out in the middle of nowhere does not sexual tension make. I'm shocked...honestly...that the publisher would publish this the way it is. Obviously, the publisher thought, "Oh, it's Evanovich, it'll sell." Yeah, maybe it will, but it's sequals won't. At least not to me.
Rating: Summary: if you love the stephanie plum series, don't buy this Review: Awful, boring, silly. Bought this at an airport and looked forward to some light vacation reading. I couldn't get past the first chapters it was so bad. Shame on the author and publisher for trading on the author's good name to trick people into buying this book.
Rating: Summary: Not her best, but has some good points Review: Full House had potential, and Max Holt was interesting in that, so I was looking forward to seeing him in Full Tilt. But he was totally different -- what happened to his change the world revolutionary zeal? I thought Muffin (the talking computer) was the best part of the book -- I did hear the audiobook version, which I think added a lot, because you hear her talking in her Marilyn Monroe voice. The wrestlers were just kind of there, not really doing anything funny as in the first book. I thought Beanie was okay, and I liked the relationship between him and Dee-dee, but I was disappointed in Dee-dee, who was so funny in the first book. Anyway, this is not up to Janet Evanovich's usual standards, sadly enough. It makes you appreciate her normal flair.
Rating: Summary: Lukewarm Romantic "Thriller" Review: Full Tilt begins with Jamie Swift wondering how she can keep her small town newspaper alive. She has a bigshot investor named Maximillian Holt who has suddenly decided to drop in and see how things are going. Unbeknownst to her, her hotshot billionaire investor is her best friend, Deedee's, brother. When Max and Jamie first meet, Max doesn't introduce himself properly and Jamie mistakenly presumes that she has been kidnapped by a psychopath who talks to his car. She quickly discovers Max's small deception and grows to be good friends with his car's computer, an artificial intelligence like no other with hormones, a sexy Marilyn Monroe voice and the unlikely name of Muffin. For some reason, Max is attracted to the largely antagonistic and sarcastic Jamie and is determined to make her newspaper a success. Unfortunately, Max and Jamie dig a little too deeply into the town of Beaumont and have to deal with inept assassins, a bloodthirsty veteran, Jamie's all too perfectly proper fiance, and Deedee's pre-menipausal hot/cold flashes... This was the first book that I read by either author and I must say that I was quite disappointed as both authors are spoken of quite highly (aside from this page, of course). I didn't particularly care for any of the characters in the book and so I never was in suspense as to what would happen. An attraction is hinted at between Max and Jamie, but it is that lukewarm "I'm engaged to another man" scenario and I really cannot see why someone like Max, who can have anyone he wants, would be interested in Jamie. I wasn't really surprised by the "surprise" ending because it was really the only way to end the story so the plot was a little thin. There were some entertaining moments, such as when Deedee's gay assistant gets knocked on the head and turns into a beer-loving, dirty guy hanging out with the other wrestlers, but they were few and far between. Alas, the authors are planning a sequel. I really don't think that I will be tempted to pick it up and see what happens...
Rating: Summary: Evanovich Phones It In Review: What a shame that such a talented author has co-written such a lifeless, unfunny story. The premise, genius Max Holt from "Full House" as a grown up zillionaire inventor, is so promising, but the writing is boring! Where are the off-the-wall characters, zingy dialog and screwball situations J.E. liberally flings into her books? Come on, Janet, you know this isn't good writing!
Rating: Summary: Full Snore... Review: I am one of those obsessive people who always finishes books I start. And I kept hoping this one would get better, but it read like a bad soap opera, and ends with the heroes riding off into the sunset. As a fan of the Stephanie Plum novels, I had high hopes for this book and even thought what a great person Evanovich was to give a "leg up" to Charlotte Hughes. But since Evanovich's other books are so good and this one was so bad, I think Hughes should keep her day job. I plan to avoid any books with her name on them in the future.
Rating: Summary: Alright then... Review: I've never read a book by either of these writers, so I figured why not get the best of both worlds by reading collaboration novel between the two. I've heard that both women are extremely talented, and I guess I should've thought that decision through. I just didn't particularly like the heroine, Jamie Swift. She seemed very childish in a sense. Useless cursing and annoying wit seem to be her weapon of choice. She's headstrong to the point of stupidness. The main hero, Max Holt, wasn't too much better in my opinion. He was far too perfect. His only weakness seemed to be women, which he didn't seem to have a problem getting. Apparently, this guy knows everything from astro-physics to whatever else their is to know. Oh, and let's not forget, he's a black belt in Karate and has a talking car he had specially designed. The only saving grace for this book was the humorous story (assassins, and poachers, and wrestlers, oh my!) and the other more colorful characters, which accounts for the three star rating. This book is good for light-hearted humor with a tinge of action.
Rating: Summary: BORING! Review: I am sorry to say: the worst of Evanovich. Stephanie Plum rules but this book has a lame plot, no memorable characters, no fun, no sex, one word BORING!!!!!!
