Rating: Summary: BUY IT AT AMAZON Review: The book is surprisingly good. The other reviewers complain about the price/size ratio. But I'm sure they all paid about [$$$]. Of course it's not worth [$$$]but who paid retail. It's the same usual tone and character's but the plot for the first time is not obvious due to PLUM"S "partner". I hate almost all holiday books since the authors usually ruin them(Grisham, the Clark's,Baldacci even Truman Capote). She is the first popular author since Charles Dickens or O'Henry to do a Holiday story well.
Rating: Summary: Come on Evanovich - You can do much better!! Review: I am a HUGE Janet Evanovich fan! Living in the U.K. I quite happily paid U.S. prices and shipping fees to ensure that I got her new book as soon as possible. I started to read it the day it came, but unlike Stephanie Plum books numbers 1-8 (which took a mere day to read) this Evanovich book took over a week to read and even then it was a struggle. It's boring, a huge diappointment, has a tenuous plot and at times insults your intelligence. My advice is don't buy it - if you want to read it, at least wait until it's out in paperback or borrow it from a library/a friend. Come on Evanovich - you can do much better!!
Rating: Summary: Honestly, I Really Wanted to Love It Review: As a person who has read every book in the Stephanie Plum series, who has recommended them to a number of people, who has eagerly awaited the arrival of each new installment, I really wanted to love this book. Or, at least like it. Well, I can't say I don't like it, but that warm and fuzzy feeling I used to get when reading one of Stephanie Plum's adventures? It just wasn't there. I'm ashamed, and saddened to say that. No one could be more disappointed than a true fan. I have followed Stephanie since the first time she tried to apprehend a bad guy, and I will admit that the 7th and 8th installments haven't been as great as the first 6. But Visions of Sugar Plums just doesn't deserve to be called a Stephanie Plum novel. At a scant 149 pages, it's not worthy of it's price, nor is it really worthy of your time. There's none of that simmering sexual tension between her and Ranger, or her and Morelli for that matter. Instead, the main man is Diesel - a mysterious guy who just "appears" in Stephanie's apartment one day, and who can unlock doors like magic. It sounds a bit too supernatural to me, which is a little bit silly, considering that Stephanie Plum books have never even touched on the supernatural. Overall, the story feels rushed, and it feels like we've been there before. Her grandma is still crazy (along with the rest of her family), she's still got her cute hamster, she's still having Morelli issues, but...well...this novel doesn't make us care. I sure hope that this was just a bad fluke, and that Janet Evanovich will give more TLC to her next Stephanie Plum novel.
Rating: Summary: Should have been a $4.99 paperback Review: This book would have been ok for a $4.99 paperback but should never have been a hardback. I will be more careful next time. I did not even look at it before I bought it because I buy all books by this auther. I think she is great. This is a cute holiday story but not worth hardback price.
Rating: Summary: No Sugar Plum. Review: I felt cheated, a short unbelievable story, not like Janet Evanovich's other Plum books, an Alien who breaks locks, Elves who bad mouth and fight,a man with electric fingers????????? No, No, lets get back to real life.
Rating: Summary: Left me wanting more.... Review: Evanovich had a good idea with this Stephanie Plum Christmas book, but I wish she had taken the time to flesh out the story a bit more--I wanted more detail! But the story has the usual hilarious and zany Evanovich characters and events. A good effort!
Rating: Summary: Skip it Review: This book seemed hastily thrown together to make it onto the shelves for the holidays. The plot was thin, the characters undeveloped and the premise was simply stupid. I have loved the other Stephanie Plum books and wish that I hadn't read this one. I hope that "Nine will be noteworthy".
Rating: Summary: Really 5 stars but 4 due to length! Review: Let me start by saying I didn't give this book a 10 due to the fact it was to short. But if you are a fan of the Stephanie Plum series than this is a quick Christmas read for you.Stephanie is sitting there minding her own business in her kitchen then suddenly there is a man standing there. Diesel is his name and he just seems to tag along with her on her latest case looking for the skip - Sandy Claws (humn does the name look a little familiar?) Who runs a Christmas Toy factory that only employees "little people", and a sister who bakes cookies by the hundreds. It is a fast paced, laughing out loud funny, short story with many of the same characters that you are used to seeing. Including perfect Valerie who has a bit of a surprise for Christmas.....
Rating: Summary: An eggnog hangover Review: I love Stephanie Plum and am quite fond of good fantasy. However the two do not mesh well. Who is Sandy Claws? We never do find out. Who is Ring? What is Diesel? Do we care? This plot does not allow a willing suspension of disbelief. Please borrow this book from the library. You will hate yourself in the morning if you pay full price for what is essentially a short story.
Rating: Summary: Glad I checked it out of the library! Review: This book exhibits all of the weaknesses I feel are in books Six, Seven and Eight of the Stephanie Plum series. I actually didn't finish Eight, and nearly put this book down too. But since it was so short, I kept slogging. Character development is going nowhere, plot/mystery is thin to non-exisistent - I feel the stories are getting by on humor, and that's it. While funny, the book ultimately doesn't deliver what I read books to experience. I think Janet is falling prey to the curse of authors that are successful in the marketplace - knock out a book a year, regardless of its quality, or if you actually have a story tell. (See Anne Rice.) I'll wait longer for a good story.
