Summary: again a classic from a. rice... but a short one..
Review: again her writing captures.. again her way of describing takes you to another realm.. but here we have some problems.. the characters, are perfect as usual... but ý found this book so short.. i would have preferred it to be written as fully as blood and gold... the end could be later... at the end we say "is it finished now?"
but of course the taste of the book in general, is "a classic of anne rice"

Summary: Finally....
Review: a book from Ms. Rice that is well worth reading. The last two books I read of hers were extremely tedious (The Vampire Armand and Blood & Gold). I love the Mayfair Witches and most of the Vampire Chronicles. I really liked this book and the way she intertwined the vampires and the witches. I eagerly anticipate her newest book out in October 2003, Blood Canticle.

Summary: Better than I originally thought
Review: I wasn't too sure whether or not I wanted to read "Blackwood Farm" because the book focuses mostly on a new vampire, similiar to "Vittorio" and "Merrick", two books I couldn't get into. When I found a copy at my local library, I decided to check the book out. Much to my surprise, I found myself engulfed in the book. Anne continues her ever-so popular vampire chronicles series by fusing the popular series with the Mayfair witches. The only familiar character in "Blackwood Farm" is Anne's infamous anti-hero Lestat. He is called upon by a young man named Quinn Blackwood, who is also a vampire. He asks Lestat for his help because of his doppelganger named Goblin who has been with Quinn since he was a young boy. Over the years, Goblin becomes stronger every year, especially now that Quinn is a vampire, and Goblin feeds off the blood that Quinn consumes. The stronger Goblin becomes, the more frightening he becomes to Quinn. That is where Lestat comes in. Quinn goes to Lestat for help who in turns asks Merrick to rid of Goblin. Without ruining the story, I found the book more interesting than I thought. I couldn't put this book down. I especially enjoyed reading about Quinn's childhood. As usual, Anne manages to create another world with her abilities to go into great details with Quinn's background and the entire history of the Blackwood Farm. Although I prefer the earlier books in the vampire chronicles, I found "Blackwood Farm" enjoyable. It may not be as good as her first five books in the series but "Blackwood Farm" certainly was more entertaining to read than I originally thought. Despite having an occasional miss in her vampire chronicles series, Anne still has me as a captivated fan of her richly spun tales. She gives life and humanity to her vampire characters. I will always enjoy reading her books.

Summary: Great Read
Review: At first this was a hard one to get drawn into - you needed a little time to get aquainted with the characters and setting. But once you got involved in this it hooks you in and you don't want to put it down until the end. I enjoyed reading this great book - I would love to hear more about Quinn's life after learning what I have so far.

Summary: Sugar Devil Island
Review: This fantastic novel will transport you into a lustful and charming tale about a very bold, wealthy and inviting family who owns one of the largest mansion in New Orleans. The ambiance is fulfilled with an incredible variety of characters and the history of the Blackwoods is scrutinized in deep detail to facilitate your ability to plunge into their world.

Tarquin Blackwood is the young, pretty, clever, borderline bisexual man of the house who is both gifted and cursed with supernatural abilities that his surrounding denies and despairs. He is haunted by a spirit: Goblin which is his exact physical double, his friend, his twin brother, his devilish lover and most importantly the object of all his fears.

The plot gets more interesting when the young rich Blackwood discovers the mysterious, infamous, notoriously feared and forgotten hermitage hidden deep in the swamp of their property. He finds out about the atrocities that occurred on the island and his stubborn attitude to solve it's mysteries dosen't sit well with the immortal being who was behind it all for centuries. When Tarquin gets "kissed" by this strange vampire (equipped with masculine genital organs and a female's face), he gets nearly lost in insanity with his prior adventures with witches and ghosts and is now seriously vulnerable to goblin's extorts and aggressions even though he now possesses the dark gift. Consequently, he seeks (with great fear) help from one of the most charismatic and most powerful vampire of all time: Lestat De Valois. Will Lestat slaughter this young new comer? Will they be able to destroy Goblin who is groing inexplicably dangerous? Will Quinn's precious loved ones survive from the evil plans of his invisible brother? The truth is shocking! However if i had to find a flaw in this story, i would say that the reader explores the life of Tarquin Blackwood (as a human being) in depth but only gets a glimmer of this fascinating character as a vampire. Nonetheless this book definitely demonstrates Anne Rice's experience and talent after all these books from the Vampire Chronicles.

Before reading Blackwood Farm i would suggest these fine accomplishments: Interview With The Vampire, The Vampire Lestat, The Queen Of The Damned and The Tale Of The Body Thief. Thank You for reading this i was glad to give my opinion.

Summary: Lestat is back! Well...sort of.
Review: Blackwood Farm is far superior to Blood and Gold, which is the single worst book ever written.

I was very excited by the beginning of this book, but the middle gave out. The ending is suberb, and I was truly shocked by the death of one major character.

Here is my advice:
If you are a Lestat fan as I am, (I really don't care about any of Rice's other characters) you should read Chapters 1-6, skip chapters 7-43, and then read chapters 44 thru the end of the book.

If you are a Mayfair fan, read the entire thing. You will probably enjoy those middle 400 pages that I didn't.

Hopefully Blood Canticle, the next Rice book, will be about Lestat and no one else.

Summary: What were you thinking, Anne?
Review: I have been a huge fan of the Vampire Chronicles since Interview With the Vampire. As much as I hate to admit it, this book was simply dreadful! The first two chapters were promising, but then the next 3-400 pages plodded along like nails on a chalkboard.

The characters were bland and uninspired, and plot dragged at a horribly slow pace. Even the short appearance of Lestat failed to help pick up the pace. Towards the end of the book, I was hoping Lestat would just kill the main character, Quinn, and put us all out of our misery!

If you are a big enough fan of Anne Rice's work that you still feel the need to read this disaster, at least save yourself some money and buy it used, or wait for it to come out on paperback.

Summary: Only to be read by masochists!
Review: Good heavens! This had to be one of the most painful books I've ever read! I felt like I was being punished for deciding to finish the damned thing once I started it. The text and dialogue were repetitive to the point of irritation and the characters were flat. Must every line of the book be so melodramatic - it makes the parts of the book that might be exiciting rather anticlimactic.

Summary: My first ! What a habit, this Anne Rice thing.....
Review: I was searching for historical fiction, civil war stuff....ya know like Cold Mountain, Gone With the Wind, Memoirs of Cleopatra. This came up that it was simialr. I thought, "Anne Rice...isnt she that vampire lady ?" Now, mind you, loved vampires since I was a kid, loved the Cruise/Pitt Interview. But never read about them. This book kept me up well into the dawn, I buzzed through it,invigorated, shocked, romanced, educated, sent into a virtual "la la land" of imagery. I had never met more than Lestat,Armand,Louis,Claudia...from the Interview movie. I fell in love with the characters, deeply rooted in southern lore, with references as far back as ancient Greece,Rome,Egypt. I wont give it away, not dare mention the herma...oops...plus I really learnt the meaning of "evil" doppleganger ! If you are a fan of her "witches"...they are in here too. So far, I am on my 8th Rice book.
