Summary: Terrific Novel of Love and Loss
Review: Best-selling author Nicolas Sparks delivers once again in this heartwarming tale of tears and triumph.

As a young widower, Miles Ryan finds little joy in life as a deputy sheriff in the small town of New Bern, North Carolina. Forced to raise his young son, Jonah, alone, Miles was devastated when two years prior, his wife Missy was killed in a hit and run auto accident. Because the killer was never found, Miles has never found closure as evidenced by the file he keeps on Missy's death.

Life seems to improve for Miles when he meets Sarah Andrews, Jonah's new teacher. Though Sarah was hurt by her previous divorce, she sees Miles as someone she could trust. Miles and Sarah's attraction to one another is both gradual and realistic as they begin to emerge from their old fears and heartaches.

In a heart wrenching and clever twist of fate, circumstances intervene and threaten to destroy this couple's newfound happiness. Emotions ride high as the reader is kept guessing until the last page is finished as to whether love can really overcome all.

A BEND IN THE ROAD is a fine addition to a long list of previous best-selling novels. With memorable characters facing real life problems, readers will be reluctant to part with Miles and Sarah as their story comes to a gripping conclusion.

Summary: Good but not one of Nicolas Spark's best
Review: Unlike other Spark's books the main character of this book was not a real likable guy. Miles was very selfish. He was so wrapped up in himself that he didn't notice that his son couldn't read or write. After he got involved with Sarah, he decided it was over without considering how his son would feel about it. When he was taking Brian into custody, he was driving more recklessly than Brian was when the accident happened. We were led to believe that it was out of the kindness of his heart that he let Brian go without pressing charges.
The book was still a page turner (I read it in 5 hours) but didn't require any kleenex like other Spark's books. The ending left me wondering if Miles was indeed changing his selfish ways.

Summary: Sparks does it again!
Review: I have been a fan of Nicolas Sparks for a few years now so I was anxiously awaiting the release of A Bend in the Road. I read the book over the course of 1 day and was not dissapointed. Sparks has done it again indeed! I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a good read. I warn you though, you may not be able to put it down. So grab your favorite pillow, curl up by the fire, and read on!

Summary: How does he do it?
Review: Nicholas Sparks is the first author that I will count down the days till the next release. If you loved his other titles, "Bend in the Road" will not disappoint. If you haven't read any of his books, this would be a great time to start. Sparks has outdone himself in this one. It has everything we all love about Sparks, but now with a twist of mystery.

Miles' wife Missy was killed in a hit and run a couple of years before the story takes places. But her death still haunts him. Along comes Sara, who carries her own past hurts, and Miles begins to open his heart and heal for the first time since Missy died. New loves and past secrets will put this new love to the test.

Summary: Story's average; details of the city though are accurate
Review: Though I do not profess to be a regular reader of Mr. Sparks nor do I care for the style and content of his writing, he is nonetheless a neighbor to my parents in the picturesque and very real city of New Bern, NC. It is because of this connection to the city that I feel compelled to write a brief review. In the pages that I read of the book, he captured many of the details of my hometown. The reference to Middle Street in downtown New Bern, his mention of Fred & Clara's, a quaint homestyle restaurant off Tryon (or is it Craven?) Street, he even revisits our city's illustrious pre-Revolutionary history as he discusses Tryon Palace and our city's place in the success of Pepsi-Cola. Even the title of the book, A Bend in the River, is a reference to a community just on the outskirts of town, River Bend.

What I take away from this book, rather than a message or the warm and fuzzy feeling for which he is more commonly known, is the real beauty of this quaint town as seen through the eyes of characters (and an author) who have a real appreciation for the quietness and beauty that New Bern has to offer.

Summary: not his best, but I enjoyed
Review: I honestly thought that this one will turn out to be the best one Nicky Sparks has ever written, but I have to say that his two best are Message in a Bottle and The Rescue.

A Bend in the Road focused too much on Missy and I didn't really think that the love between Miles and Sarah was strong. But the story was still enjoyable and it made me sad and happy. Will be looking for the next one.

Summary: A touching story to warm the heart
Review: Once again Nicholas Sparks has done an amazing job telling a story that will warm your heart. Once I started reading I didn't want to put the book down. I had to know what happened between Miles and Sarah.

Summary: A touching drama
Review: Miles Ryan is living his life in a daze. Since the death of his wife, the victim of a hit and run accident, Miles is doing the best he can to raise his young son, and put the pieces of his life back together. Then one day he meets his son's teacher, Sarah Andrews, a young woman trying to rebuild her own life after a failed marriage.

As the couple begin dating, they put aside their past pain to begin again. And just as this new love begins to flourish, a shocking secret is discovered, a secret that threatens to tear apart the relationship they built, and force them to question all that they believe in.

'A Bend In The Road' is a simple love story. A quick read that grabs the reader early on, taking them on a journey of heartbreak, and hope. As the touching story unfolds, Miles and Sarah come to life, and with each of their painful memories, we the reader, can understand what they are going through, and we could only hope that things will work out in the end.

Nicholas Sparks is good at what he does; he writes novels that examine the heart, in all it's many aspects. While parts become a little over dramatic, Mr. Sparks keeps the plot moving, and the overall experience is enjoyable.

Nicholas Sparks has written all bestsellers, and his latest, probably his best, will surely be a blockbuster hit.

Summary: BEAUTIFULLY WRITTEN AND ENRICHED WITH STRONG EMOTION!
Review: This is, without question, the most beautifully written book from Sparks since "Message in a Bottle." It is a story of loss and new-found love. Miles is still grieving the loss of his wife in a hit-and-run accident, and struggling with the day-to-day challenges of raising a son on his own. When Sarah Andrews enters his life, Miles is filled with a variety of mixed emotions from guilt and a sense of betrayal to his dead wife, to the earthy qualities of love and passion for an attractive, alluring woman. Sarah, too, is dealing with her own demons of the past. Just as fate has blessed these two people with the chance to find happiness, solace and love together, and put the past to rest, their love and relationship are both tested to the limit.

This is a book fans of Sparks will not want to miss. Also highly recommended by another Nicholas - Nicholas Evans, is "Smoke Jumper." Both are excellent books, destined to become best sellers and deserving of five-star ratings.
