Summary: Dennis Miller says what other people are afraid to...
Review: ** This refers to the Audio Download **

Dennis Miller is ranting again. This time he discusses topics like "The Need For Reason" and "The End of Accountability" with musings on "Talk Shows" and "Pets." It's classic Miller with his deadpan delivery and usage of similes. One of the best moments is when Miller admits, "Sorry, I'm officially out of similes."

Stephanie's Review:

Not everybody gets or likes Dennis Miller. To enjoy his subtle and clever humor, one needs to really think and be aware of our society and culture. It's a refreshing change from the lowbrow humor found so often today. And your brain needs to work as fast as Miller's. Otherwise, you'll find yourself *getting* what was said in a previous rant when he's well into the next one.

If you get the print edition, you'll supposedly get extra rants. But I recommend the audio book version because Miller narrates it. However, I advise listening to the entire book in one setting--even though it's only a little over two hours long. You'll savor more of Miller's brilliance that way. I listened to this straight through during a trip to New York. When it was finished, I needed about two hours worth of silence to clear my mind, and to digest what was said.

It's a shame that Dennis Miller is so underrated as he appears to be because "I Rant, Therefore I Am" is a definite keeper.

Summary: Good humor, man
Review: Dennis Miller is busy on "Monday Night Football" making Chick Hearn and Keith Jackson look like giants of accuracy, but he's still in the intentional humor business. "I Rant, Therefore I Am" is funnier and less grating than his last two rant books. With chapters running three or four well-spaced-out pages, this is definitive bathroom reading material. The book covers the Clinton probe and impeachment period at the end of the century, and it already plays like a time capsule. ("The only time the buck stops in the Clinton administration is when it's rolled up and jammed into the stripper's G-string."). Check out Miller's right-on-the-money take on the, um, climax of real estate transactions. Or country music. Or bad taste. It's best taken in small doses, though: Miller and his writers work at stretching their format about as hard as the president trying to round up that key piece of evidence for the Whitewater boys. At one point Miller even wails: "Sorry, I'm officially out of similes." He should try something original, something fresh, maybe something like the last line of this review. Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Summary: Monday Night Mac Arthee
Review: Ever since Miller was punted from previous gig, he apparently has a lot of time on his hands. Is he bitter? If you can imagine a miniskirted right wing blond riding the Clydesdales in Tolstoy's Russia, you might conclude Miller has been always already unfunny.

Remember: The right wing lies. The right wing hates. They only want your money so they can buy drugs or gamble. Ignore them!

Summary: Worthwhile Rants
Review: First, I should admit that I am a fan of Dennis Miller. I think he is intelligent and funny. His comedy takes at least a certain amount of intelligence and education to understand. I appreciate having to think and be somewhat aware of my culture and environment to get many of the jokes.

I think Miller's ranting style is funny, too. I can hear his voice as I read the rants in his various books. I even occasionally laugh out loud reading him which is very rare for me.

This particular volume of rants (his third) is classic Miller. If you like his style then you'll like this book. Its one weakness was the Clinton/Lewinsky joke came up way too many times. His ability to come up with a unique skew on things is too good to fall back on this chestnut as many times as he does.

This is a small complait, though, about what is generally a very funny book.

Summary: Can't throw a spiral - or RANT for that matter
Review: His hands are too small. Don't read this book, just turn down the sound to Monday night football and enjoy the game.

Summary: Too Damn Funny
Review: I almost got into a car accident I was laughing so hard listening to these rants.

Summary: he is a disgrace!
Review: I am so sick of this guy going on Leno all the time. All he does is selfishly talk about him self and not care for others. And to state Bill and Hillary are still married for "CONVENIENCE"? P-lease! To say something like that would be ubsurd, because the only people who know the truth are Bill and Hillary, who to my knowledge are still married. His comments regarding the enviornment are TRULY un-called for. "Get out of a tree and get a job." First off, I happen to be an enviornmentalist but I have a job. Sorry we don't make $1,000,000,000 a year publishing books based on our rants and go on talk shows blabbering like a 2-year-old. Republicans laugh at Al Franken for being "childesh" (and how hypocritical by previously saying liberals are "Name-callers"?) when they have this fellow to look at. I mean for God's sake he's voting for Arnold! Shouldn't that say enough?

Summary: Wish he had more books out
Review: I can never get enough Miller, and this is probably his best book out to date.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: still worth a laugh or 2.
Review: I checked this out as an audiobook from the local library rather than picking up the title for sale.

Yes, Dennis is still funny, and I mostly laughed my way through most of the book...but some of it did fall flat...like his "defense of the rich"...I had to do a double take and rewind the tape make sure PJ O'Rourke didn't sneak into the recording studio to splice that one in...nope, that's Dennis alright;

*sigh* Dennis is well educated, is very funny, but for all his
piss and vinegar, holds pretty much to a solidly centrist,
tiresomely libertarian Weltanschauung that is inconsistent
and undercuts his more progressive thrusts...I know, I know,
he's just an entertainer...a comedian who worked hard and
made good and is enjoying the fruits of his hard-earned
climb to the top...

I still like Dennis Miller's humor (mostly) and will continue listening to his audiobooks and TV performances...

...but I am starting to prefer humor & moral outrage that
actually tries to make the world a better place ala Michael Moore, etc. Dennis Miller is getting older and more conservative with age and seems edging closer to becoming
a PJ O'Rourke clone if he's not careful (though I have to stop to admit that, for that matter, despite the fact I find PJ O'Rourke's political positions odious, He's still capable of inducing a wicked belly laugh out of me now and again between groans of disapproval!).

I miss Dennis' talk show and remain convinced with the assessment that it got cancelled because it was too subtle and clever for the general public to really appreciate. Maybe Dennis should have pitched to PBS...what the hell...

Summary: Miller is just funny.
Review: I loved this collection of rants. I have read this one and Ranting Again. I just know started to read The Rants. And so far, I like them all.

This collection is great, and his opionions are sometimes right on the money. Miller says things we wish we could say, but obviously, would not have any friends if we did. This book lacked some of the cynicism of Ranting Again. But this book is too good to lose a star.

If you can stand him, read these books and laugh till you cry.
