Rating: Summary: A great read Review: "D" is for Deadbeat is up there with Grafton's best. This one has a very good plot and an ending that is sure to take one by surprise. This is an excellent novel with which to start the Milhone series. An excellent read!
Rating: Summary: Grafton's best so far! Review: 'D is for Deadbeat' is in my opinion the best of the Kinsey Millhone series. Granted, I have only made it to E so far, but this is still a great book!Kinsey Millhone is a 32 year-old Private Eve, twice divorced an lives in a small garage she rents from Henry, a retired baker and crossword-puzzle maker. At the beginning of the story, she is hired to deliver a cashier's check for $25,000 to a 15 year-old boy. However, her retainer check bounces and when she tries to track down the man who hired her, she ends up unraveling a horrible mess that will keep you gripping at your seat.
Rating: Summary: WHICH BLONDE DID HIM IN??? Review: A fair read. Kinsey Millhone is given a $25,000.00 cashiers check to deliver to a 15 year old. A few days later the man that gave it to her turns up dead. The police believe he was drunk and fell in the water and drown but Kinsey belives he was murdered. She sets out to prove it. There are many good characters you met along the way. The funeral is fairly funny. Kinsely finally gets a witness who saw a blonde women with the man the night he died. But there are three different women it could be. You will be very surprised when the killer is found. The beginning and the ending were very good but I thought the middle of the book was slow moving.
Rating: Summary: The third book in the series Review: D is for Deadbeat is Sue Grafton's third book in the alphabet series. It is perhaps her best, though. It kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading the book. I really didn't want to put it down, but it was 15 minutes until I had to be at work. I even read on it all day and finished when I came home. It was a simply delightful and suspenseful book. The characters were selected for this story with the upmost care, and I was amazed at the believablility of the characters involved in the book. I was pleased that the author provided detail of not only the characters, but also the action, so that, like other mystery books out there, you end up getting confused because of not enough detail or too much. Not so in this book; everything was just right. Get this book; I know you won't be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: Pretty good book Review: I did enjoy it. The author has a great method of pushing comedy in bits with a good amount of action. They Detective is very trustworthy as a character. The end though, was the only part that failed me, It dragged a bit. She seemed to show more tear at the death of the convicts than of the kid.
Rating: Summary: D is for Dandy Review: I found this to be one of the best of Sue Grafton's books so far. I found it extremely suspenseful and was guessing all the way up to the end as to who was the murderer. The ending surprised me and saddened me. I have found myself engrossed in the series and can't wait to get on to the letter "E".

Rating: Summary: flawed but delicious Review: In this fourth novel, private detective Kinsey Millhone is hired for routine search-and-deliver work, but before she can begin on the case her client drowns. She decides to look into his death, first on her own and then in the employ of the client's daughter. She quickly discovers that the drowning may not have been accidental, and between creditors, buddies from jail, and wives, there are more than enough suspects. "D is for Deadbeat" has more flaws than previous Kinsey installments, and sometimes the detective's motives make little sense. But the book is pleasurable reading, and the thrill of the chase overwhelms any flaws in the plot.
