Summary: Spell-binding!
Review: Once I made it past the harrowing first chapter, I couldn't stop reading. As a daughter of the South, I can tell you that these characters are real people. Though this novel is grimmer and grittier than "The Firm," it also has more real humor. (The judge who keeps asking for the "ice water" in his chambers cracked me up!) This book also makes you feel you're right there in the Mississippi heat and humidity where the tensions match the temperature. Jake and Carl Lee are the heroes here, but so is the holdout juror who asked those who were impaneled with her to "imagine if it were your little girl. . ." A great read, though definitely not "light reading."

Summary: GRISHAM'S BEST BY FAR
Review: John Grisham's first effort, A Time To Kill, is a provocative journey into situational ethics. This novel captures the frustration and internal struggles of right and wrong in addition to providing the technical aspects of jury selection, emotional limitations of the legal system and behind the bench insights that leave the reader with a clearer, if somewhat tainted view of the lady justice. If you've read John Grisham's lastest efforts, travel back in time to his earliest and best.

Summary: Grisham captures human emotions exactly in this masterpiece.
Review: Never have I read a more emotionally charged book than "A Time To Kill". Grisham's characters are brilliantly real. Their thought processes and emotions are perfectly detailed and much like my own. From the heart-wrenching opening, to the stunning, tear-jerking end, my heart was pounding and my curiousity piqued. Grisham's first ingenius novel is one of the best books one could read

Summary: When a Time to Kill is a Father' Love.
Review: In the racial polarized city of Canton, Mississippi, tragedy comes to call when a black man avenges the rape of his young daughter. His only friend is a young white lawyer. Problems plague both of them as the nation looks on. It asks the question, "When does a father's love go to far?" and "When is it time to kill?" Both are answered in a way that makes the color of a man a central issue that must be sidelined in order to see justice served. If you like legal drama this is one of the best

Summary: Grisham's best. Captivating enlightning emotional historical
Review: Grisham's first and best work. An interesting, fictional, yet historical novel which moves rather slowly in the beginning. However, the story conveyed is well worth exercising the patience needed in order to muddle through the slow sections! An impossible book to read without being transported into characters' lives to experience the intense emotions and unrest. The slow, boggy inditing transforms into engrossing words which are literally, extraordinarily, and intensely captivating! Grisham's portrayal of the South is realistic; he not only portrayed racism in the South, but also rendered an honest portrayal many "color blind" Southerners

Summary: I hate it but I love it!
Review: It is my first John Grishams book. I get the book from my Australian co-worker when come to US for a meeting. This book turns me into a Grishams book fan overnight.

The book is easy to read but hard to put down. It forces my hand to into a page turning machine. The characters in the book can be found in real life. A kid, father, lawyer, judge, black folks, KKK members and journalists, all run into each other life and create all the tensions and loves. It is a good book to read but you will hate it because it stop you from doing everything else.
