Rating: Summary: A Black Man seeking Justice outside the system Review: The continuance of racial discrimination in certain parts of the United States has resulted in the injustice of the system . Carl Lee , a black man sought justice for his young daughter outside the system when she was raped and tortured by 2 white men . It would take a miracle to save him even with a first grade lawyer ! Read It to find out for yourself !
Rating: Summary: SAVE YOUR MONEY! Review: If you want to read this book, you should reade "The Firm" or "The Client" instead. If you already have read "The Firm" or "The Client", you would probably hate yourself for buying this book!

Rating: Summary: The book is slightly better than a bad movie Review: I've read all the Grisham books and am amazed that he has such a wide readership. His writing is superficial and stretches credibility. His plot lines have gaping holes (ex: The Client) A Time is his best effort, but he asks his readers to sympathize with a black man who shoots down two manacled white men in cold blood. He may have gained some black readers, but even the most broad-minded whites question his motives in wrliting this book.
Rating: Summary: Grisham's Best Review: As with many Grisham fans, I had never heard of A Time to Kill until I read the Firm. The Firm, of course, captivated me and the pages almost flew from the book because I was turning them so fast. I then read A Time to Kill. It, also, enthralled me, but in a very different way. I could tell that this book meant so much more to him than The Firm. And, after reading the rest of his books, a Time to Kill is by far the one he obviously cared about the most. It was almost biographical. In my opinion, his books have become more schlocky the more he writes. I wish he could write another book as good and compelling as A Time to Kill. His knowledge of law is obvious but in this book, his knowledge of feelings and attitudes, especially of the Deep South are right on. Even though the race relations of that area have improved over the years, there is still the nervous tension underlying, waiting to raise up at any time. Grisham has created a masterpiece with this book. Anyone who says that his other books are better has not actually read this one. Granted, many people cannot get past the first chapter of the book because of the violence, but it was necessary because in just three or four short pages, we come to hate these two rednecks and can put ourselves in the place of Carl Lee. We believe that these men, if they can be called that, deserve the punishment received of them. Read A Time to Kill. You will not be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: fabulous! Review: i never read the book, but the movie "a time to kill" is spectacularly fascinating, and brought me to tears. i've also read and watched "the client", another of grisham's wonderful novels. i thought that both of them were out of this world!
Rating: Summary: GRISHAM'S BEST STORY BUT NOT HIS BEST BOOK Review: I liked A time To Kill a lot, but I'm amazed at the enormously high ratings it got from readers when compared to Grisham's other books. The story is powerful and the style is good, but A Time To Kill is simply not as good a book as The Firm, and I'm sure J.G. would be the first to tell you that. As in any first novel, Grisham accomplishes certain tasks like introducing new characters in a way that is clearly not as good as the way in which he does the same things in his later novels. Ellen Roark would have gotten a far better introduction had she appeared in a later novel. Carl Lee's testimony is glossed over when it could have been an emotional highlight of the book. Even the title would have been better ( "The Vigilante" for instance ) had the book been written more recently. The Grisham humor though, is certainly there in full force, and the book contains many interesting subplots ( the bombing of Brigance's house, the takeover of the case by Marsharfsky...). Grisham also clearly uses his first novel as a forum to get off his chest his gripes with certain types of lawyers, which makes the book all the more entertaining.
Rating: Summary: Overall astounding!! Fastpaced, exciting, yet down to earth Review: This book is on a very controversial issue which is present in all parts of the United States. It is a very realistic book, there aren't any superhuman people running around killing the bad guys, but instead is very down to earth, yet very fast paced and exciting.
Rating: Summary: One of the best books i've read Review: Grisham's a real author. One of the best. The real life drama, excites. It took two days to read it.
