Rating: Summary: Success with a passion Review: Like it or not, this is an exceptional first book. Actually, it's an exceptional book period.Grisham could use a little work on construction and grammar, but his ability to tell a compelling story with passion is superb. However, the reader is left with a disquieting feeling -- sure, Carl Lee's act was understandable and maybe even justifiable; sure the world is a better place for the elimination of the two vile rapists. But, do we really want to live in a society where such acts as Carl Lee's are acceptable? Carl Lee's action may be secularly right, but it surely is not legal. Furthermore, it's not moral. Still, Grisham succeeds at leading the reader to the point where such concerns must be addressed. And, there's no easy answer. Grisham paints some great characters -- Jake, Lucien, Buckley, Carl Lee, Gwen and Harry Rex. But, Ro-ark should row a boat out of the book because there's no need for her. After all, do we need Jake, Buckley, Lucien or Noose when we have law students as brilliant as Ro-ark? All in all, I still think this is Grisham's best work because I can feel his passion in every word I read.
Rating: Summary: The BEST BOOK EVER....well, maybe not... Review: I just finished reading this book and I LOVED IT! In my opinion it was much better than the movie. I thought that it was full of emotion and detail, and it really got me thinking. It was my first John Grisham book, and I will definitely read another one! READ THIS BOOK! :-)
Rating: Summary: A Time to Kill- An awesome book! Review: A Time to Kill was a gripping power packed tale of uncertain justice in a small southern town which gave a life threatening perspective to racial violence in the courtroom. Jake Brigance presented to the jury a suspenseful and truthful performance that touched many hearts. Even through the cross-burnings and misfortunes, he stood for his beliefs and did not back down under the many pressures forced upon him. Carl Lee Hailey took justice into his own hands after two prejudice white men raped and beaten his ten-year-old daughter. Many people in the community believed that the two savage white men may have been set free. So when Carl Lee shot them in cold-blooded murder many sympathized with what he had done. As things started spinning out of control, Jake delivered a breathtaking speech that gave Carl Lee Hailey the freedom he deserved.
Rating: Summary: The book was good, But it could use more detail. Review: This book is about A man who kills two men who had raped his ten year old daughter. In which he has to be put on trial for murder, he is a black man in which his lawyer is the one who got hisbrother out of a jam.
Rating: Summary: A VERY GOOD BOOK! Review: A Time To Kill is the best book I have ever read. It is about a father whose daughter is raped and he decides to kill the rapists. The book is about the fathers trial. You can learn a lot about the law, just by reading this book. It is very well written with vivid descriptions and accurate accounts of the law. It is a very good book and I recommend it to every teenager.
Rating: Summary: A Time to Kill Is A Time to Read Review: John Grisham has created a masterpiece. If you've seen the movie, do yourself a favor and read the book. You can feel the pain in Carl lee better than seeing it.
Rating: Summary: Among the best literature I've read! Review: John Grisham delivers a powerpacked punch in this legal thriller that left me hanging at the edge of my seat from word one... I've read every Grisham book that has been published, and this is by far the best! This gripping tale of southern bigotry, violence, justice, and a father's love for his daughter was the first in a long line of powerful legal thrillers that shock and amaze me no matter how many times I read them. I have studied many of the great writers of this century, as well as the 1800's. From Poe to Hemingway to T.S. Eliot, Grisham ranks among the best... If you're only going to read one book in your lifetime, this is it!
Rating: Summary: IGL project for Mrs. Mai. Review: This book was a great book on the law and the court. It started out with a great beginning and ended with a great end. Don't think that this book is like one of Grishams other books. I read The RAINMAKER and I thought this one was ten times better. Grisham did a great job of showing us how hard it is to be a lawyer in a small town in the South. He showed us the hardships a young lawyer in the south who is trying to keep a law firm alive. The book showed us how hard it is to make money in a little town. One day you could have three thousand dollars come in and the next day you could have nothing come in. He made it seem like you were there in the court listening to the trial. Grisham according showed us the racism in the south against the African American race. He was not afraid to use the racial slurs that there is in the south to make the book more real. Grisham did a great job of showing us in depth how it messes with your mind to be in trial. I was astonished to how the lawyers reacted to the media. They all want to be the one who gets to the cameras first. I did this for my IGL class for a project and I think this is the best project you can do for IGL. I loved this book and I hope you will enjoy it to.
Rating: Summary: This Book Is Awsome Review: This book wants me to read the book for a second time. I would recomend this book to anyone who likes long thiller books.
Rating: Summary: More like cable than literature Review: This book had a stereo typical setting, which fits in well with the characters. It had abselutly no depth at all. The only reqason I gave it the benefit of three stars was that there was slightly interesting momentary suspense, but aside from that the book is not worth reading unless you have abselutly no clue how the judicial system works and you want an easy way to find out or you are a strange Grisham fanatic.
