Summary: If you can get through the first chapter, it's great. . .
Review: . . .I read this one years before becoming a parent, and it's probably a good thing. The first chapter is absolutely nightmarish for anyone who has a young daughter (as I do now). Nonetheless, it sets the stage for the rest of the book. Can a black man in Klan-dominated Mississippi get a fair trial for shooting the men who brutalized his little girl? And at what cost? The white folks who come to his defense pay a high price, just as the civil rights workers did during the 60s when trying to help the black people of the deep South get registered to vote and end segregation. This is a riveting, unforgettable book. It will stay with you long after you've turned the last page. I've never seen the movie. I will never need to. Like The Firm, this is an early Grisham novel, and one of his best. Nothing he's written since "The Client" has touched those early works in quality or resonance. Find this one in your local library. . .

Summary: By Far Grishams's Best Book
Review: I have now read all of John Grisham's books and A Time To Kill is by far the best. It is a well written and gripping read. Grisham's recent books have started to feel formulatic and predictable. This book is exciting and is truly a page turner. It will entertain you and make you think at the same time. If you have read a more recent Grisham book and disliked it give this one a try. It really is a great book.

Summary: a review on A TIME TO KILL
Review: A TIME TO KILL is a moving story of a young lawyer's(Jake Brigance) desire to win an unfair, prejudicial case for a black man(Carl Lee). Carl Lee's daughter got raped and beaten by two drunk white men. Carl Lee who got outraged, took matter into his own hands. Now he must put his life and trust into Jake Brigance's hands. Jake must show to the jury that Carl Lee is not guilty--even if it means risking his own and his family's life also! A TIME TO KILL will captivate you heart, and open up your mind and allow you to realize the injustice of racism. Although A TIME TO KILL is a a great book(Also a good movie!), there are parts of the book where it went by really slowly for me. It would go by really slowly because nothing would happen. There would be so much writing about one event. (example: like Jake waking up, eating breakfast, going to the office, and what he needs to do for the day or something like that) However, overall I think that this is a good book to read.

Review: This book is absolutely incredible! The characters are believable, the plot incredible, and the trial scenes are totally awesome. Grisham says that he "would not change a word" if given the chance and I heartily agree. Thanks John!

Summary: A Time to Kill
Review: The book was an re-awaking about the racial differences that went on through out our country a few years back. John Grisham knows how to make a person think about what goes on in his book even after you put it down. He's style of writing is very information throughout the beginning of the book, but by the end the information is what makes the ending so good. I, personally, didn't want to put the book down when i was getting close to the end of the book. The book, also, makes you think about how we can be fooled by persuasion from a good talker. This book is a action packed and is full of suspence.

Summary: Wonderful book, Movie is no comparison
Review: This book was so much better than the movie. I read the book and was just absolutely in awe and couldn't wait to see the movie. The movie was disappointing in my opinion. The book is so much more discriptive than the movie. The book goes into character development and there are so many memorable moments that were left out of the movie. I would recommend this book to anyone, but I would warn future readers that there are a lot of racial references in the book and could be offensive to some people. It was a great book and John Grisham tells the story wonderfully.

Review: In this debut novel from today's most prolific author of legal thrillers, a black Viet Nam vet kills the men who raped his daughter in a small Mississippi town. The topic of justified murder makes for a captivating read.

Review: I am very much awakned by this book it shows you a whole knew outlook. To see that two men could be so heartless,and innocent child should not be in anyone's fantasy. The twistedness of this can mak a dog sick as the term is so frequently used. I think that the way that this was betrayed in this book an show us that things like this are not to b taken lightly,and things like this do happn very day whether we hear about it or not. America has this sinc of security that is suspected but if we shut are eyesm to such events the we to should b at the judgement table no qustions asked. America we can not pull the shutters ovr the yes of our children yes give them that since of stability,and comfort but always tell them to keep there guard up,and not to trust everyone!

Summary: Very Captivating
Review: This is a well told story with a solid plot and some captivating subplots. The descriptions of the emotions of Carl Halley and the events that surround him are told in a manner as if you were experiencing each action. One misguided critic here felt that this story is merely an insult to one's intelligence. I say to him,"Just what would you do if it was your daughter who was raped?" Even if you do not agree with what the message the author is trying to get accross, there is no doubt that the story and drama behind it stand very strong.

Summary: A fast and entertaining read
Review: "A Time to Kill" is John Grisham's first novel, but unless you read the foreword, it's not readily apparent. His fluid, detailed storytelling is unlike the choppy first attempts of many modern authors. (At times it may seem he pays *too* much attention to details, but after all, he *is* a lawyer.)In a small town in the Deep South, two redneck hooligans rape and maim a ten-year-old black girl. Enraged, the girl's father, Carl Lee Hailey, takes justice into his own hands, killing the two rapists in a courthouse shooting. He seeks the help of defense lawyer Jake Brigance to save him from the gas chamber. Brigance, a young but sharp lawyer, has to find a way to win an impossible case: a black man is on trial for killing two white men, and his case is being heard by an all-white jury. Adding to the mix are violence between the Ku Klux Klan and the black community, and the fact that, during the shooting, Carl Lee had injured a sheriff's deputy (who later had to have part of his leg amputated). Throughout the book, the odds stack against Brigance and his client, and the novel will definitely keep you turning the pages. No matter what your personal opinions on the death penalty or vigilante justice are, you won't be disappointed. As Jake's mentor, disbarred lawyer Lucien Wilbanks, says, "If you win this case, justice will prevail, but if you lose it, justice will also prevail."
