Rating: Summary: Shallow and disappointing Review: Despite all the hype, this is a shallow and disappointing book. The exercises are elemental techiques that would make DaVinci laugh. I really expected a much better book. It was a good idea that failed in its delivery.
Rating: Summary: Essential Reading . . . Review: Will it make you "think like a genius"? Possibly not. But reading this book and doing the exercises will help to make you a "Renaissance" man or woman. Since I teach the Renaissance, I'm especially partial to it. Bibliophiles will find it a particularly handsome text. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: As rich, fascinating, and stimulating as Belgian chocolates! Review: Buy this book
Rating: Summary: This book was low in useful information. Review: I expected there to be more actual techniques to improve ones learning
Rating: Summary: Really thought-provoking and personally enlightening Review: My husband and I are hooked! We checked out the book in the library, renewed it and want our own copy to play with and help stimulate our creative interests. Wonderful!
Rating: Summary: Leonardo and NASA Review: Bravo Signor Gelb I thoroughly enjoyed the book both from the point of pleasure and practicality. My Gelb shows his own gentlemen genius by using the language of Leonardo, one which in itself leads to a creative way of expression. The theory is not far fetched. Worth reading the following excerpt from the Electronic Telegraph of August 12, 1998 "Nasa is testing an automaton built using Leonardo's sketches... which experts say are better than most contemporary designs. The result of a collaboration between the 15th-century Florentine visionary and a 20th-century cybernetics expert is a human surrogate that Nasa plans will maintain the International Space Station and build habitats on Mars before astronauts arrive. Mark Rosheim, an American robotics expert who built the automaton for Nasa, said: "Leonardo's anatomy drawings are unique because he drew through the eyes of an engineer. They gave me the information I needed to emulate the complex joints and muscles of the human body. I've used them to build Nasa a humanoid 'Mr Data' type robot, which we call an anthrobot."
Rating: Summary: Attn: Artists & Intellectuals. This is a good book. Review: Do not mind the stars. The book is worth purchasing. 5 stars would mean that this is the last book you buy. I am a student on an endless quest for higher learning, excellence, creativity, intelligence, and so forth. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book to all students, teachers, and those in search of inspiration and hope of manifesting your hidden potential. My word of caution is to understand Leonardo da Vinci for who he was and what he pursued. If you too pursue truth, then follow the principles of Curiosita, Dimostrazione and so forth. Do not treat this text as a Bible. Understand the principles that helped Leonardo achieve his goal.
Rating: Summary: You need this book Review: While Leonardo DaVinci's personal background did not greatly interest me, it's hard to deny he was not a genius. The practical suggestions of this book are appliable, and do work. It's worth the read.
Rating: Summary: Excellent book on "Breakout of the Box" thinking Review: The book will help you to step out of "normal" thinking processes to become more creative. I now rethink the way I present material to my classes. You must stimulate the creativity in your attendees. The idea that everyone is a genius should make you rethink the ideas given to you by other persons. You just might miss a "golden" idea.
Rating: Summary: Practical ideas to put to use every day. Review: I am a high school English teacher whose seniors wanted to do some "philosophy" work in the class. So I found and used this book as our text and did the writing, talking, listening, and reading involved. It was great! The students have certainly grown in their thinking and in the consideration of others as they've delved into the principles, plus they've learned a great deal about the man, art, and abilities they themselves might have. It's been a terrific tool for kids (although I'm sure in about 5 years it would be more suited to them) who are not school oriented. Learning has been fun and now they have some more skills on which they may call when needed. I also used the mind-mapping tapes and those helped organize some usually unorganized people--like me for one!
