Rating: Summary: So disappointed Review: I can't express how disappointing this book was. In the prologue it all seemed so promising and then NOTHING ELSE HAPPENED. Not a single thing in the prologue was developed more than 10 pages beyond the prologue. Rand was in it for a sum total of 15 or 20 pages, and he DID NOTHING. Not to mention i think they mentioned the cleansed saidin TWICE, and just IN PASSING. Also, there were no bad-guy chapters, so we got nothing new there, not to mention the fact that the boring-as-hell Perrin sidestory took a needless boring-as-hell detour to a stupid pointless town and took up half the book. All in all, it .... Please make the next one even half decent. After Winter's Heart, I was just so sorely disappointed. I ordered this book last August for god's sake. So disappointed. One extra star for an interesting prologue, but none for the entire rest.
Rating: Summary: Enough is a Enough Review: Any one else tired of more clothing descriptions?!!! I truly hope to finish this story before I die of old age! I just know I will buy the next book, I'm just too addicted. This book was the most boring yet. All the action happens behind the scenes and no fighting to speak of. Is their a war for the survival of goodness going on or not? Mr. Jordan your fans are begging you to quit milking this series and finish it in the next book. I need to get on with my life and you are the only one who can bring closure.
Rating: Summary: Disappointed Review: This is the worst book of the series. The plot evolved little - if at all. Initially this series was going to cover 8 to 10 books. Jordan needs to wrap it up. He can always do a sequel (or even better - a prequel). If the first book had been written at this pace, I would have never read the second.
Rating: Summary: Thoroughly mediocre Review: Robert Jordan has proven himself to be an excellent writer in the majority of his books in this series, but it seems that the pace of his story has become excessively lethargic. This book continues a disturbing trend of focusing on less-than-pertinent minutiae in a plodding play-by-play of the charaters' actions. Until the last 30 pages or so there is no actual advancement of the plot, and even then all he provides us is foreshadowing of important events that, given his current plot pacing, may not occur until a thirteenth or fourteenth book. While I admire Mr. Jordan's style of writing, I find myself having to be an apologist to my friends regarding the quality of this book and the future direction of this series. In short, I am unsure where he is going with his magnificent story. I apprehensively await the next installment.
Rating: Summary: Just skim through it - not worth buying Review: This series has clearly run out of steam. The first few books were a lot of fun, but the plot advancement has slowed to a crawl. Mr. Jordan is an excellent adventure writer, but he seems to have forgotten that this was an adventure story and has become bogged down in poorly written character development. The shift in focus from a fantasy novel to a character based drama would be forgivable if the characters were actually interesting and had any depth. But 5000+ pages into this epic the characters are still one-dimensional and their relationships are trite. Rand, the hero, is a nice guy but is tortured by madness and pain. Yeah, we knew that 2000 pages ago. Mr. Jordan doesn't need to keep pounding it into our heads. And yes, Mat is a lovable rogue and womanizer who is a coward and just wants to avoid trouble but always does the right thing when it comes down to it. That paper thin characterization was fine for a 500 page novel, but we are 5000+ pages into this series and the characters haven't changed or gained any depth. Mat has the memories of a 1000 dead men and he still acts like some caricature of a 15 year old boy? I don't buy it. I've read single chapters of other books that created more realistic characters than Jordan has managed in 10 entire volumes of text. Having strayed from it's adventure roots, this latest installment of the series had very little to capture my interest. If you haven't read it yet but still want to follow the series, do what I did...spend an hour in your local bookstore skimming through the interesting chapters and skip the rest.
Rating: Summary: NOTHING HAPPENS IN THIS BOOK!!! Review: While I wasn't expecting his book to be action packed, I found myself turning page after page wondering when SOMETHING, ANYTHING would happen. I did get one smidgin of action near the very end with an apparent abduction of one of the main characters, but the situation never evolved. Let me state that I am a HUGE fan of the WOT series. I think the whole mythos is wonderfully developed, highly entertaining, and intellectually stimulating. However, I read this book with the thought that Robert Jordan must not be able to decide where he wants to go with this. I felt the book was written as a money maker, NOT a continuation of an incredibly rich tapestry. This is the first WOT book that actually bored me. Not your best work Mr. Jordan. I'll hold out hope for the next installment.
Rating: Summary: Chill Out! Review: People, you need to relax. I would agree that the book is slow. I would agree that not much happens. But I still think that this is a great setup. He's just setting everything up, the calm before the storm, so to speak. I don't understand why everyone is freaking out and saying this book is not worth reading. I have really enjoyed the POV of Mat and Perrin very much. The revelations about the Black Ajah and Messana are interesting and huge groups are traveling everywhere. Don't judge this book till you read the next one. Appreciate the "detailed" writing and look forward to the next book. And I also thought "Winters Heart" was one of the better books
Rating: Summary: Six hundred pages of.....nothing. Review: Well. I'd say it's about time to give Jordan a round of applause. He has managed to do what few even come close to---write a full length fantasy novel and have -nothing- happen, and have -none- of the plotlines resolved, or even being -close- to being resolved! The repititions are grating on the nerves, the pages spent describing how to launder silk (among other things) are unbearable, and the lack of PLOT is appalling. Did I mention that I was falling asleep trying to push my way through the first four hundred pages, hoping against hope that something, ANYTHING would happen. Nope. And then it just ends, and it's like you're staring at the book like "Oh my God this book is beyond horrible" Please, DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS BOOK. If you -must- read it get it from the libary. But honestly you can just skip it. I know I'm never buying a hardcover Wheel of Time book again.
Rating: Summary: GET ON WITH IT!!!!!!!!! Review: Having been a dedicated fan of WoT for many years....I can't begin to express what a great disappointment CoT was. No progression what so ever. This was by far the worst book of the series. At least in PoD we had the battle with the Seanchan. I doubt I'll waste the money for another purchase til I am 100% positive that the Last Battle has been fought and decided. RJ needs to get back to his roots and style of the early books. To bad there isn't a no star selection or better yet a negetive selection for the rating.
Rating: Summary: Help Rand! Forsaken have cast sleep spell on WOT Creator! Review: The WOT opens with a 9 foot Trolloc busting down Rand's door! Jordan wove Rand's narrow escape and ever greater danger and discovery of immense powers with enjoyable fun characters who kicked each other in the ..., argued constantly, but in the end supported each other amidst grave danger. In disappointing contrast, this book is 90% soap opera, describing clothing, hair ornaments, titles and relative standings in greater depth than Entertainment Tonights coverage of the Academy Awards! To quote Lan (barely mentioned) 'You're a long ways from Eomond's Field' Mr Jordan. Maybe you held Saidar too long and have lost the source. Or have one of the Forsaken bewitched our beloved writer? Notice how they are getting brought back, and no more head to heads with Rand? Maybe you need to watch WWE and have another Royal Rumble between Rand and one of the Forsaken (you'll bring them back anyways, so why not kill one or two off?) Bring back more real plot tension about the Forsaken, get Eqwene and the Aes Sedai on with it, and come out with a coloring book where interested readers can put the right outfit and hairstyles on the multitudes of superflous characters that absorb the True Source. Have you been Stilled? Call Nyneave to fix your writers block, please! No more comparisons to Tolkein please. Jordan is nowhere close unless you are referring to JRRs "Unfinished Tales" that are sort of anthologies of background stories to add flavor to the main event. LOTR only took one tenth the pages. I loved loved loved books 1-6. However, it seems The Lord of Chaos was prophetic of the next four books!
