Rating: Summary: BIG LETDOWN Review: If you need something to put you to sleep, read this book. I don't think it could have been any more boring. I'm outraged that I wasted my money on this !...
Rating: Summary: Be careful what you wich for... Review: Though the plot is glacial at times, all of those people who are lamenting the fact that this series is taking so long will be the same ones who loudly lament that the series is over and was too brief. Enjoy the wonderful writing and story while you can. He has done better, but this is still among the best Fantasy writing out there, if not THE best.
Rating: Summary: Well, we know they'll never make a movie out of it Review: I found that the best thing to do with this volume was to simply read the dialog and skip all the rest. That way you can finish it in a day, still know everything you need to know to continue the series and not waste a lot of your life in tedium and frustration.
Rating: Summary: A lost fan and lost cash Review: I was loyal even after that last piece of fluff he wrote because at least at the end something had happened. This was garbage. I read this the day it came out and will never buy another work of his again. The only excuse for this waste of paper is that he wants cash- he won't be getting mine. If he wants to be compared to Tolkien, then maybe he should have read it. Tolkien never wrote the background of most characters in the books, nor told us anything of them except was absolutely necessary for HELLO!!! the STORY TO PROGRESS. They were kept brief or stuck in the appendix at the end of the Return of the King. The last two books of the this series has had ONE relevant event to the story and that is about it. Suggestion, if you want to read a great book series with action read Martin's Song of Fire and Ice series as recemmended elsewhere. And if you want to read a series with a great background and mythology, written properly, read the Silmarilion released by Tolkien's son. That is a proper mythology.
Rating: Summary: Boring and Pointless Review: I'm not sure how to put this, but if you are considering this buying this book, DON'T. I have been buying books in this series since it first came out over ten years ago. The first 3 or 4 kept me enthralled. I would sit down and read hundreds of pages at a time simply because I could not put it down. The excitement and suspense of not knowing what could happen next kept me more than just involved, it made me live the books. The most recent books, Crossroads of Twilight included, have changed dramatically. I wonder if it is truly Robert Jordan even writing these. That's how bad they have become. Where a 700page book from early in the series would last me a week, this latest reincarnation has lasted me nearly a month and I had to drive myself mad to even pick it up. The reason I say this is because he has changed from writing an action packed suspense filled fantasy to writing a fantasy version of a romance novel. Whats her name walks in wearing this and that with this expression and this is her background and this is the current weather and the walls looks like this. WHO FRIGGIN CARES !!! Give me the basics and let my imagination draw the picture. I don't need a chapter to explain an Aes Sedai's dress! Plus, don't tell me the names of each and every character that is in the book, I WON'T REMEMBER ANYWAY !!! As you can tell, I'm quite furious. End this series. Put it out of it's misery. So far, I have each and every hardback from the series. If I was to start over, I wouldn't even collect the paperbacks. This book doesn't even deserve a place on the magazine stack by the toilet.
Rating: Summary: If you haven't read it yet, follow these instructions. Review: 1. Go to bookstore. 2. Pick up "Crossroads" and turn to page 677 of 680. 3. Read from the section break onto the next page. 4. Close the book and replace it on the shelf. You have just read the only meaningful action or plot movement in the entire volume. 5. Save [$$] by not buying it.
Rating: Summary: RJ's true motive .... Review: I'm really starting to question RJ's sanity. I don't buy into the 'cash cow' thing. Who would destroy 10 years worth of work and his status as fantasy king on purpose ? I think Jordan has grand delusions about the WOT. I actually read where Jordan thinks his writing has greatly improved since the first books. This is so obviously wrong it makes you wonder where he is coming from. I also think RJ gets real enjoyment from watching his readers squirm about some of the plot twists that he's introduced over the years (some 10 years ago in the first book !!!!). Why answer questions when he can hear 'Who killed .....' for the hundredth time at a book signing. Watch them squirm, Watch them squirm ........ . This may sound far fetched , but its my opinion.
Rating: Summary: How many ages will come and go before the final battle? Review: Approximately five years ago I bought at a yard sale the first 7 books for $3.00 each. These books were wonderful and held my interest. I was somewhat disappointed, after waiting what seemed like forever for them to come out, in books 8 and 9. Now after finishing book 10 where once again the movement toward the final battle crawled; I wonder how many ages will have to come and go before the final battle?
Rating: Summary: All the one star reviewers are RIGHT. Should be 0 or - Review: I've been a WoT fan for a while, and foolishly ignored all the negative reviews I had seen about CoT. Now that I've read the book, I must strongly agree with every negative review about it here, while seriously questioning the rose colored glasses if not straight sanity of anyone who'd go above one star. It's insulting to have this released. Of all the books I've read, including grade school literature classes, and quite possibly textbooks, I have never, ever, EVER seen something so boring, that served no purpose more effectively. Some may say he's setting up future happenings, and there is intrigue and detail. Detail yes, intrigue no. You're going to read about how thick the mud is. For 2 paragrapghs. Cloth and food...not even interesting, just there. Lots of it. You'll be able to construct wardrobes 2 closets deep for each major, and several minor characters. Oh, and temperature, he likes that too. You geto to know how warm or cold the mud, cloth, or food is. Doing your TAXES is more entertaining than this! Usually I'm not too critical, and fairly easy to please, and quite forgiving. But, wow, I couldn't comprehend ANY book, especially not from a series I've followed, could be THIS BAD.
Rating: Summary: Modern Novel Marketing 101 Review: First off, let me say I'm a fan of Jordan and will most likely (or unfortunately) have to read everything else he writes in this series. Like everyone else, I'm hooked. I just hope, by the grace of God, that he stays with us long enough to finally finish this story! What he's doing here is classic fantasy novel marketing. Write some incredible first few books in a series, masterfully develop great characters, then drag it out for as many volumes as possible and for maximum profit. How else can it be explained? He's got this process down, and he and his publisher are laughing all the way to the bank! Okay, now bring on Book 11. I can't wait!!
