Rating: Summary: Drop this, read Martin. Review: This series is the equivalent of watching paint dry. I would also give books six through whatever minus five stars. Quit wasting time and money and read A Song of Ice and Fire.
Rating: Summary: The End Must Come Soon Review: This is the tenth installment in the more-than-epic Wheel of Time series and, unfortunately, not the last. This series started off with a rich fictional universe, great characters, and a plot replete with germane subplots. All of that is still there, and the writing remains technically great, but the pace has slowed almost to a stop. After reading this one, the reader feels a lot has happened and nothing has happened. Has Mr. Jordan run out of new ideas, and thus must keep this series going indefinitely? Has he fallen in love with these characters and does not want to abandon them? I don't know, but this series is over for me. I'll stick with George R.R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire series, where everything keeps moving, and the story does not get bogged down in its own richness.
Rating: Summary: Travel away from this series! Review: WOT started out as an exciting fantasy series with interesting concepts and characters. It has been reduced to a muddled soap opera that progresses so slowly it cannot be called WOT but should be called Week in Review. Do not bother to read any more of this series. Pick a great fantasy trilogy, of which there are now many, and leave Jordan to fleece the brainwashed WOT fans, if there are any left out there (poor creatures!)
Rating: Summary: Robert Jordan's Big Book of Dresses. Review: The title says it all. I'm a huge fan of Jordan, and like another reviewer said, I have been defending his last couple books against fans who found them lacking. But this most recent venture into the Wheel's world is nothing more than 600+ pages of clothing descriptions and details repeated from other books. There were no battles. Really not even any good brawls. Nothing. A couple of statements like, "What was that that just flew by the moon? A bat, or a Seanchan beast, or the Dark One's minion?" and, "I think I saw something over by that wall." were the only encounters with the dark one that anyone had, excepting the scene with Mesanna getting tortured. That is the TOTAL amount of "evil" exposure in this book. Oh, and a few people saw rats. (and weevils! Ooo! Evil weevils!)Read the book and then read the teaser in the flap again, it almost feels like you are lied to. Mat: Flap says the Shadow and Seanchan are in deadly pursuit. Funny, because the Seanchan ignore them, and the Shadow never bothers to pop up. Perrin: Flap says his only hope is an alliance with the enemy. Again, funny, because that happens almost at the end of the book. Someone mentions that maybe the Seanchan soldiers would join them against the Shaido, and Perrin goes basically, "Hmm.", like maybe he'll consider it. Egwene: Flap says she is laying siege to Tar Valon. I can't stop laughing about this, because the extent of her "siege" seems to be her going up to the wall of Tar Valon in a rowboat and getting instantly taken captive. Elayne: Flap says she fights for the Throne. She needs to pick a dress for the fight though... that should take up another 30 pages. Rand: Flap says... oh, who cares? He's only in it for a few pages. Sorry to be so harsh, but kick it up a step. It is not worth the extra money to compromise your fantastic story by using cheap filler.
Rating: Summary: The Wheel of Time has stopped turning Review: I have only one thing to say to Mr. Jordan and that is "MOVE IT ALONG, SIR" because the plodding pace is wearing out my patience. How could you have published this book, when it could have been pared down into the prologue for Book 10 is just unbelievable. If Book 11 is anything like the last 3 books and most especially Crossroads, then I will no longer be reading The Wheel of Time. You will have lost another customer and fan.
Rating: Summary: Slow but Steady Review: It is true that RJ's writing needs speeding up A LOT. But whatever's written is good character development and adds a lot to the details of the WOT world. May be this book would have been better received by the fans had RJ released it a year ago with book 11 out about now. In that case the plot would be moving at a more acceptable pace. This is was good series. And still is.
Rating: Summary: This book goes nowhere Review: I have only one thing to say to Mr. Jordan, move the story along at a faster pace. It is so incredibly frustrating to wait so long for each book to come out, and to then be so disappointed by the last 4 books. Please listen to all your readers and write the story like you did up until "A Crown of Swords", because I for one am fast losing my patience with the plodding pace of the last 4 books and if the next one isn't great I will no longer be reading the Wheel of Time series.
Rating: Summary: Share the blame with the editor and the publisher (TOR) Review: I can't do any better than the others before me sharing my disgust with Robert Jordan's lack of respect for once-loyal readers. So instead I'll express my lack of confidence in TOR and its editorial staff. If they can let an author of Jordan's talent submit such a piece of drivel, then how can I trust that they will do any better a job with less talented authors? .... An editor can do so much to improve a book but the best thing he or she can do is be honest with the author and not publish something like this. Tor, you're taking a hit on this one. Booksellers, reduce your inventory.
Rating: Summary: Piece of garbage Review: Don't waste your time or money. The plot has yet to move significantly since book 4. The 1,000,001 character was introduced at the beginning of the book, only to have the character ignored for the rest of the book. It seems the only way to get him to finish the story is if people stop buying. So long as people keep buying, he will have no incentive to advance the plot. I wish I had my money back.
Rating: Summary: 700 pages of brain fart Review: Really, how could he have possibly released this?? How can he have so little respect for his fans to sell this mess? Nothing happened to any of the characters that couldn't of been told in a page or two. He literally stretch out 20 pages of material to SEVEN HUNDRED PAGES!!! The sheer inhumanity is staggering. Now I have to go apologize to all my friends who I'd hooked on this series.... Please, everyone- Pretend it stops at book 8.
