Rating: Summary: Waste of time and money... Review: I give up! I'm not going to bother reading another Wheel of time book until the series is complete (if that ever happens). I have read over 600 pages so far and absolutely nothing has happened. Actually, "read" is a little strong... I began skimming pages after page 300 or so. The first four or five books in this series were really good. Good enought to keep me, and many others, coming back for more. Even after reading THOUSANDS of pages of neverending gibberish, I had faith that at some point it would turn around. HA! The joke is on me! This series has become an absolute disaster. What a shame for something that had so much potential. At this point, I can't even imagine how Jordan will bring it to an end. For that matter, I have ceased to care...
Rating: Summary: Just shoot me now. . . Review: Robert Jordan has accomplished something no other writer has ever done before - turned me off of a series before I finished it. It no longer matters to me if there are 2 more books, 5 more, or 100 more. I have kicked the habit! A phone book has fewer characters to keep straight and a more interesting plot.
Rating: Summary: The Worst of Jordan's Series Review: Glacial does not begin to describe the pace. Nothing happened. It's as if Jordan got writer's block and just wrote descriptive, rambling nonsense. It contains endless useless descriptions of nothing. This book could have been written in less than 200 pages and been semi-interesting. At two hundred pages I would have given it 2 stars. The trouble is I am so hooked on the series I had to read it. I suspect that Jordan dried up but needed to churn something out to make a little money from us suckers. I would rather he was like George RR Martin and didn't turn out a book until it was ready.
Rating: Summary: Get real people! Review: If you don't like the way Robert Jordan writes, stop reading his books! The story is so complex, interwoven, and realisticly written that of COURSE it's going to take a long time to explain what's happening with every thread of the story. Did you notice, reading number 10, that book 9 lasted 22 days?? that's right--22 days! And that's just the way it is, folks. I enjoy the way RJ writes and I loved Crossroads of Twilight. I can't wait for book 11. I will be disappointed when the series ends, and I hope he makes it last another 2 or 3 at least. I highly recommend this book. If you didn't like it, don't waste your time ranting on amazon about it.
Rating: Summary: How slow can you go vs. Goat Milk anyone? Review: Alright, short and simple. I'll rate this book as a 3 right now because I'm not finished with it yet. I have read almost half this book and it has been utterly boring. Book 9 the male half of the true source was cleansed, yes? Not until page 310 does the channeling for that feat even stop... and this is in book 10. To me, the whole part with Elayne and her tedious plots to gain support for her claim to the lion throne are ridiculous and unnecessary. Didn't Jordan have something better to write about? The source is clean for God's sake at least have people rejoicing. Have Rand go back to Tear or Illian and pick up where he left off. Don't waste the readers' time by talking about worthless bargains with the Atha'an Miere or Elayne's complaints about having to drink watered-down tea, and if you do, don't take three hundred pages to do it! Now, the important question; should you read this book? Yes, certainly, you don't want to be lost when book 27 comes out and the bargain with the Atha'an Miere actually comes into play, but please, for the benefit of all the really good writers out there who right because they love it, don't buy this book! As another reviewer said, get it from the library! Download it from the internet, I don't care, just don't buy it!
Rating: Summary: COME ON! Review: I love all of Robert Jordans books. They are so complex and worth while. I do not know why all the reviews are bad. All the twists in the plot and the suspense, how can someone not enjoy this series? ALL the books are AMAZING. You can't read one without the other.
Rating: Summary: Get even, get this book at the library read it for free. Review: This book does nothing to advance the wheel of time story whatsoever. But don't take my word for it... read it yourself, go to the library and check it out, read it and then take it back. In this way you in some small way get even with Jordan, his editor and his publisher for the low quality of the last few novels. You get to read them, and they don't get a penny.
Rating: Summary: Deathly boring Review: I'm amazed at how professional reviewers continue to compare Jordan's work with that of Tolkien. Tolkien's work was long and detailed (loved by some, not by others). Jordans, on the other hand is a tedious waste of paper. Had he disciplined himself to a trilogy, his work might have been tolerable. Unfortunately, he didn't know when to stop. One might have thought that an ex-military man would have had more discipline and foresight. The problem with this series is not that it's long, but that it becomes unoriginal and drawn out. This book stinks of a marketing ploy. The same characters are rehashed in a seemingly never-ending tale. Even half-way in (at which point I must admit I just gave up - only the second time in my life), Jordan had still not moved the plot along. He juggles so many characters and situations, that it takes him about 100 pages to catch up with each "group" of characters, doing exactly ... nothing. It's not really necessary to have so many characters in what ought to be a simple fantasy series. I wonder if Jordan himself is able to keep up with them all. I would not be surprised if he hasn't, as it would explain a lot about the length of this book, and the entire series. It seems to me that Jordan himself knows no end to the story. If he's bored his readers then surely he's bored himself nearly to death. Don't waste your time. .
Rating: Summary: Robert Jordan obviously works for the government.... Review: ....since this series of books has turned into a bloated, fat sac of protoplasm similar to the U.S. Government and it's bureaucracy. People are so angry about Mr. Jordan's last 5 books since the first 5 were excellent. Unfortunately, their magic has long since vanished, while Mr. Jordan and his editor continue to milk it. Does he realize how horrible things have become? Fortunately, I haven't read any of these books since number 7, which freed up a lot of my time and allowed me to perfect my underwater basket-weaving, macaroni art techniques and my clandestine nose picking skills. Enough already! Finally, is it any wonder that the last three books just sit at my local library? They're free to check out, but have had no takers....
Rating: Summary: Jordan is an extraordinary storyteller Review: Yes, this book is pretty slow in terms of plot development, just like the previous 3 or 4 novels. However, this just like the previous 3 or 4 novels is not meant for intense action in the plot. Jordan is moving towards an incredible climax in this series. The best climax in a novel comes after somewhat of a lull in the plot beforehand. If you think that this is just a terrible book with no plot, you know very little about Jordan and his incredible writing ability. Expect the next couple books to be incredible!
