Rating: Summary: Wheel of Time: Good! This Book: BAD!!!! Review: I am and will remain a fan of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series and I recommend to anyone that they should start reading it as soon as possible. That said I feel it is the duty for all Robert Jordan fans to admit that this particular book was garbage. The first 98% of the book is filler followed by a very small amount of writing that would normally be acceptable in the Wheel of Time legacy. Let this be a wake up call to Mr. Jordan: Even your diehard fans will get upset if you string us along! Bring the quality of the rest of the series back to where it was or you will lose millions of dollars and millions of readers. I will leave it up to Jordan to decide which is more important to him.So, to recap: Read Wheel of Time, but do not purchase the 10th book. Borrow it from a library or from a friend. If you must, buy the paperback only. Robert Jordan should get the message that fans are angry. Hopefully it will make him see the light and end the series the way it began: spectacularly.
Rating: Summary: Get On With It Already! Review: Does anyone even remember the original plot of these books anymore? I am three hundred pages into "Crossroads of Twilight" and I'm realizing that nothing is going to happen in this book either, aside from someone glaring at someone else, or, for a change of pace, someone staring daggers at someone else. If you are looking to buy this book, you have probably already been hooked into the series by the first few books. If so, then it's probably too late to tell you to wait until this series is finished then buy the first several books and the very last one. I'm getting really annoyed with myself for purchasing the last four books in this waste-of-bookshelf-space series.
Rating: Summary: Preaching to the Choir Review: I heartily agree with the vast majority of OVER 600 reviews given here. I have read this series since the beginning and am a big fantasy/sci-fi fan. I am also highly educated and do not have a short attention span. Not only is this a bad book with no movement, repetitive drivel about clothing, customs and fashion, and an almost misogynistic treatment of women, but I remembered around page 470 that I'd promised myself not to buy the next WoT book for the same reasons. I'm extremely disappointed that I have stuck with this author through 7000 or more pages, and this ... excuse for a next installment is all I have to show for it. I hope I remember my pledge to not buy the NEXT book. And the millions Robert Jordan is getting for each of these "books" guarantees he could care less what his fans think.
Rating: Summary: We are not going anywhere! Review: Robert Jordan is letting his loyal fans wait again. After eager anticipation of this installment, I am begining to forget my reasons for continuing to follow this saga. Filled with many characters who don't contribute much to the plot, this book provides little change/movement in Rand's struggle. Everyone in the book appears to be waiting with no resolution in sight. The only action is that the dice are still rolling in Mat's head; we see Rand in the last few pages still in pain and static; and Lan is alive! He's mentioned on two pages. This l-o-n-g struggle with the constant threat of war seems not to be worth the time anymore. Will readers really care when the
Rating: Summary: WOT Freak Review: Yes, patience a virtue very necessary. I love these books and people speak of them as boring or pointless, but I think they might be missing something. Sure no heavy breath taking action occured, or did it? Were you paying attention? Why did I find myself on edge the whole way through. Paying attention to every word spoken to find such hidden meanings, things the Aes Sedai are known to do. I do beleive we all have just taken another step in the direction of a conclusion. But I also beleive that there are many more steps to take. Robert Jordan please continue and do not listen to those who claim you are writng for Quantity not quality, for I only read quality. I know I am not the only one out there who feels this way. I was shocked to have read how many people thought this book was a waste of time, I do not understand, detail is important in life and in fiction, so please everyone practice your patience, and feel the anticipation for the next book, for I know I do! Late. Noobies, this series may be the best you shall ever read, everyday I find more and more people claiming such.
Rating: Summary: catch up on what is happening in the world of WOT Review: We spend a lot of time catching up on what everybody has been doing across the cast of Jordan's main characters, although there are a few mid-level characters who don't get much time. There is a lot of perspective on what each main character or party was doing at the time of Rand's major actions at the end of book 9. Not a whole lot "new" happens, but the stage is set for a lot of cool stuff down the road. Much time is given to character development, and setting the scene for mood and attitude of the people of this land. Having summarized, I must say that there are a lot of harsh reviews for this book, and I feel they are out of line. If somebody has made it all the way to book 10 (6000-7000 pages in the first 9 volumes), they should be well familiar with Jordan's writing style. Sure, he takes a lot of time to describe things. That's exactly why his world is so lush and believable! That's why people READ this series! If you made it this far and prefer a terse Hemingway style of prose, man, you must be a glutton for punishment! Not as much "exciting" happens in this volume, but we learn what is going on everywhere, and the scene is set for the actions of the next volume. Yes, it could have been a little longer, okay, maybe a lot longer, but I would rather have had the volume as it is today, than waited another 6 months for it to grow more substantial. And that (relatively short) is the only reason I give this volume 4 stars instead of 5. If you've made it up to book 10 in this series, you would be really really silly to not read this one.
Rating: Summary: Not as bad as I feared Review: Having read the reviews and heard the word of mouth about this book, this was the first of the series that I've considered waiting until the paperback was released. Having succumbed (I figured with nine others in hardback, it would seem silly to wait now), I can honostly say that it is nowhere as bad as I thought it would be. True, hardly any time is covered and the plot barely plods along, but I have to admit that Jordan's writing continues to have me turning pages. If he could manage to pump books like this (in terms of no where plot movements) at least once a year, I wouldn't complain. Having waited years for this one though cost the book some stars.
Rating: Summary: I hope the next one is better Review: About 3/4 of this book takes place during the same time frame that Winter's Heart ended. It is extremely slow-moving, repetitve, and even boring at times. I will finish the series because I am almost done. But, if the next one is anything like this one, I may just quit. There is very precious little in this book that would pull me back for more. I can only hope that the next book picks up the pace...big time. Aes Sedai are annoying.
Rating: Summary: Absolute dreck Review: Unbelievable. Reads like an author just spewing words in an effort to collect another paycheck. Give up on this series. Or at least skip this one, you won't miss anything. Seriously, not one thing.
Rating: Summary: The Worst of a Long Series Review: Jordan needs to get back on track and just tell the bloody story...he spends way too much time giving the most minute detail about about things that don't add anything to the moving the story ahead.
