Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: After reading the entire "for the roses" Series, I was very pleased with the ending. I am sorry that the brothers and both roses will not be apart of my reading life anymore. My only critisism is Come the Spring was a little too much mystery and not enough "summary". I did like the twist at the end.
Rating: Summary: It concludes the saga begun in For the Roses. Review: After reading the first four in the series, I could hardly wait for the last one. I broke tradition and bought the hard back. I read the book in one sitting and while it was a good book, it did not hold me spellbound as the others had. It does put the period to the end of the sentence. though.
Rating: Summary: It can't be the end!!!!!!! Review: I just loved the plot twists in this book. The double love story was wonderful, it was like getting two books in one! Julie always gives me a good read. I can't wait until her next book is out!
Rating: Summary: It can't really be the end... Review: I missed the rest of the Claybornes in this book, barely a mention. The story is wonderful, but as a conclusion for this series...I need another novel!
Rating: Summary: NOT HER BEST, BUT GOOD Review: I read this book very quickly and enjoyed it very much and didn't want to put it down. Garwood did a great job of going back and forth between characters. I wish she would have expounded on the other family members more and on Marshal Ryan and Grace's upcoming nuptials. Other than that, good job Julie!
Rating: Summary: Julie Garwood's best yet Review: The bank in Rockford Falls, Montana is held up by a glib talking killer and his cohorts, who methodically execute any possible witnesses. However, due to clumsiness on the part of a female client, unknown to the outlaws, one person survives the massacre. Knowing he needs some insider's thinking, the U.S. Marshal Daniel Ryan enlists an unconscious Cole Clayborne to help him catch the bloody cutthroats. Cole has been known to stretch the law and although he and his new partner do not seem to get on well together, they travel to the site of the latest robbery-killings. Back-up also arrives in town. In Rockford Falls, a search of the records leads to the conclusion that a female witnessed the dastardly crime. However, there are three possible candidates. Each one eventually bewitches a different marshal. Still the outlaws have learned that someone can identify them. They too are not sure which female is the witness so they plan to eliminate all three unless their law enforcement lovers can intercede and stop the gang from a final cowardly deed. The five novels that make up the "Rose" series are considered some of the best books written in the nineties. Julie Garwood's latest offspring from that tremendous collection, COME THE SPRING, is as good, if not better, than the previous novels. The "good guys" are all charming even as they suffer from flaws and the villains, especially the leader, are cold bloodedly efficient and exciting. However, the story line with its tremendous prose and building suspense, turns this book into the rare confines beyond that of a keeper to that of a long term literary classic. Harriet Klausner
Rating: Summary: A delightfully surprising must read Review: I was hooked on this series from the very first in "For the Roses" and pleased as I had never read Ms Garwood's works before. I snatched up each of her three novellas as they came out, "One Pink Rose", "One White Rose" and "One Red Rose". Finally her conclusion came in the form of "Come the Spring" and I am thrilled. The two heroes are perfectly portrayed and enticing and the women are wonderful. The surprise was the completely unexpected twists and turns the book took and I could not put it down so I finished it while I ignored everything else around me. My only complaint is that I would have loved a longer revisit with all the other previous and much loved members of the family.
Rating: Summary: A hard-to-read "must read" Review: I looked forward to reading this book for some time. It is the final installment in the "For the Roses" series. I was disappointed that it did not keep with the style of the preceding books in this series. The explicitly graphic violence at the beginning of the book is disturbing and nothing like the stories preceding. This overshadows the plot. There are some stunning plot twists and I was unable to put the book down. However, I was disappointed that Ms. Garwood changed her style just at the end of a delightful series. To date Julie Garwood's style has been romantic, humorous and upbeat. None of her stories have had the same plot. Like many of her contemporaries, she is attempting a more gritty, hardcore style. While she does this in a riveting manner and she has a right to grow as a writer, it is a letdown to the faithful readers who made her a bestselling author. Perhaps Ms. Garwood and her fellow romance-turned-action writers should use a different pen name for different sytles. This book is a "must read" for the Garwood fan. It does bring closure to the Clayborne saga. But it is not a comfortable closure.
Rating: Summary: Okay Ending to the Claybournes Review: Let me tell you up front, if you are looking for more of the Claybourne's in this book, you will not get it. The focus of "COMES THE SPRING" is capturing the Blackwater Gang. We start off with the bank robbery scene, and the identity of the witness is a mystery. Julie does a very good job in hiding who the witness is, until it is revealed. We finally get the story of Cole Claybourne, the most "rough" of the Claybourne brothers. Cole is made into a U.S. Marshal by Marshal Daniel Ryan, who supposedly stole his compass from Mama Rose. Little is known about the compass that causes Cole to search for Ryan, and this plot does not follow in the book. I thought Jessica and Grace were very good heroines. Jessica was really the perfect match for Cole, loving and in need of his care. The baby, Caleb, was also very adorable throughout the book. Grace was the exact opposite of Daniel Ryan's first wife, which proved to be a challenge to the Marshall to figure her out. While I enjoyed the chemistry with Grace and Daniel, I was a little disappointed that Cole did not have a story all to his own. I thought his character deserved more. Overall "COMES THE SPRING" is a good end to the series. I would recommend it to anyone who has followed the Claybournes since "FOR THE ROSES." Mama Rose's speech at the end did not bother me, as it did some reviewers, because we really don't hear a lot from her, but we know she has been behind the meddling. Definitely read this book, it's worth the time.
Rating: Summary: so enjoyable! Review: I absolutely loved the Clayborne series. I just finished Come the Spring, and as always, Garwood kept me intrigued from start to finish. I never want to put her books down and find myself sneaking at work to catch a quick chapter at my desk!! Come the Spring had excellent twists and I loved the chemistry between Cole and Jessica/Grace and Daniel. The scenes with Cole and Caleb were especially endearing to me, being a single mother. Garwood appeals to the romantic in me every time! This was no exception. This is a must read, especially if you have read the four other Calyborne novels. It brings everything full circle!
